I hate how breached sites try to hide the breach any way possible. It's so annoying. I just recently found out my data was compromised 2 years later from another website breach. They had 10 year old data on an old backup.

I agree it’s annoying and it’s also unethical. We need to know if our information is compromised so we can change passwords. haveibeenpwned.com/ Is a good tool to check but it only checks publicly available breached data. That information isn’t always made public

What they hacked was an alert system intended to warn civilians. In a real situation the military would detect the missile using radar systems and other detection methods. Once the missile is detected they would then proceed to use some sort of a built in piece of software to warn civilians. In this case it was the alerting system that was hacked and not the detection system. The military would know that the alarm is false. Disrupting the detection systems would quite likely result in an undesirable reaction. But that would be a completely different scenario.
@midimusicforever

Many many years ago when new domain names started coming out, I wanted to buy one or two. It was advertised very cheaply. I waited 2 or 3 years because I didn't really need a domain name then. When I eventually decided to purchase a DN I came back to godaddy only to be smacked in the face with their new price tag. The price was like 7 times more expensive. How on earth does the price shoot up so much in a 2 or 3 year period. So I ended up not buying one. Since then I will always avoid godaddy.

It's called 'domain blackmailing' or 'domain ransoming' and other variations to that effect. Happens to streamers and large youtubers A LOT. (iirc it even happened to the YogsCast at one point.) There's 2 things to it: The *moment* you searched that DN on anything but your own browser(don't do that, very unsafe)/whois/IANA they bought it, which as ICANN and IANA sit on their ass and ignore this blatant blackmailing issue, and as these sites are a "known DN registrant" they get priority on the registration and there's nothing you can do about it until the domain registration runs out - assuming they don't auto-renew it, which they often do for years. It's an old tactic, but it gets worse. The second is: if a domain is well known enough *and not owned by a large corporation or the linke* (like youtube or harvard) they will *literally* steal the domain and *offer it for sale for anywhere up to a few hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on how well known it is. (usually in the thousands but still)* How? Well remember they get priority on the registration right? That includes re-registration. So when the domain registration runs out guess who has a bot sitting there waiting to re-register it? And guess who's bot is going to win against another bot that doesn't get 'priority'? Not you. If you want to see if a domain is registered or not in use " www.iana.org/whois " (or www.whois.com/whois they're the same). If it comes back with "You queried for #domain# but this server does not have any data for #domain#" then it's unregistered. If your domain gets stolen by places like godady? Nothing. You literally can't do anything other than just wait for them to release it. IANA don't care, your government wont care and good luck getting any media attention on it either...

What software? It's pure disinformation, there's nothing to hack, this systems was turned on for testing officially all previous year. Do you know the size of Russia, they started inspection of bomb shelters and systems on all territory which takes years, shelters last time checked 60 years ago. Ukraine don't have even tanks, there's no army in the modern sense in Ukraine, why Zelensky asks everything, they're farmers. Kinda never was by agreement of USSR collapse Ukraine saved only a very old rusty sea fleet as the Russia in the mutually shared seaport of Sevastopol. All other only on paper, was scrapped by local mafia. It very reminds Vietnam where Eisenhower officially decides to use nuclear bomb against vietnamese with sticks (analogy with indians), at least american general calculated each american soldier for a million vietnamese lives.

I received a "breach of service agreement" email from GD years ago. Was curious because I hadn't hosted anything there for several years previous to the email. I phoned to figure out what they were talking about... and even they had no idea. Couldn't tell me which site, or what nefarious misdeed had resulted in it's cancelation. Only that I had done something so bad that they would no longer take money from me. If I had something hosted with them it would have been a bit irritating. I didn't, so it was just mildly amusing. I've never tried to figure out if I'm truly banned. Why bother?

The GoDaddy incident reminded me on an inside the from back when I was in university. Alex was clever, and admitted to hacking, and he disliked James. Alex hacked a server to randomly change the password for James’ account to some garbage and then change it back to the original password. So that when James complained and had a sys admin looking, his account worked ;). But it could lock him out when the screensaver kicked on ;) Intermittent malfunctions are just so much harder to troubleshoot, and a hack that introduces an intermittent malfunction has the same kind of effect.

If they're on KZbin, it's for content subscribers and likes! And people are oblivious and follow, as if it actually is related to the activist group! And like you said the same thing with Twitter, the followers are oblivious and yet again, those who don't understand anything about anonymous will believe that they have a legitimate source, and those who have don't have any knowledgeable skills will follow like and subscribe, not realising it's just somebody out there, benefiting off of the name simply to make a dollar or two! Those people are probably the same people that go around telling their friends that they are a part of anonymous! When, in reality, the most that they do, is wearing a guy fox mask that bought from hot topic, at the same time wearing a Hoodie, they bought online with anonymous, across it watching KZbin videos about anonymous! So that the following day, whatever they saw on KZbin they can claim they were a part of when explaining it to their friends! Because you know when you're hacking away, regardless if you're successful or not the first thing you wanna do is go back to your friend! I can only imagine , they find out about stuxnet* (probably spelt wrong) they go to one of their friends, or brag to a stranger... Thinking it was something that happened days before they watched or learned about it ! Not to mention the fact it had nothing to do with them!

The way backbone of the Russian emergency alert system works is point to point radio links on around 300-500MHz and the protocol is pretty unsophisticated. If one figures out what's the alert message looks like and sends it to a linking hub, it will go downstream. IIRC the vendor has upgraded the system with encryption.
