Mind you, sacrifice coming out in 1989 when Elton needed vocal surgery to remove polyps back in 1986. Blows my mind how his voice a little bit after the surgery made his voice sound almost as good as his original voice if not better

This song is about a "sacrifice" that a married couple "think" they are making, by separating/divorcing, - perhaps because of infidelity, or they dont agree anymore, or things are not the same anymore between them. By being away from eachother, there would be no more fights or arguments....Greetings from Miami FL.

Elton John is an iconic British singer... his biggest hits were written by collaborator Bernie Taupin. Elton John got his start in the early 60's and he sang & played piano... but he reached superstardom in the 70's. Even though his songs and personality were marketed for a predominantly female audience, he would come out as gay in 1992 (he claimed he was bisexual in 1976). He shared the stage w/ rapper Eminem at the 2001 Grammy Awards performing the song 'Stan' singing the parts originally sung by Dido, and actually became good friends w/ Eminem... Elton John recently announced his retirement. Some of Elton John's biggest hits - 'Believe'... 'Candle in the wind'... 'Rocket man'... 'Nikita'... 'Goodbye yellow brick road'

I prefer to listen to great music at home using a good sound system, not in a car. Besides, when I was young, like you, where I grew up, I could only dream of owning a car. Not on the income my family had. I have been listening to Elton John since I was 13 years old, and I have never heard this song before, even though it was released in 1989. It is not amongst his best work. Google him and check out his music from the 70's, especially from the album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", which was his masterpiece.

This song was his 1st solo #1 in the UK! It was also released in 2021 with Dua Lipa as a remix by Pnau with Rocket Man, Kiss the Bride and Where’s the Shoorah? titled Cold Heart which reached #1 in the UK, Australia and many other countries and #8 in the USA. In fact it just dropped out of the Australian top 100 in November last year. It gave him the recognition of being the first artist ever to have a top 10 single in 6 different decades.
