Hi jo can you use 6mm pearl and if so do I have to use more seed beads in between. Ty I have tried this but it was real loose want to try again. Thanks for the help
@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 4 жыл бұрын
You can, but it's going to make your beaded rope super chunky! And yes, it would involve using more seed beads in between the 6mm - you might have a bit of trial and error to get the correct number of seed beads required. Swapping to 6mm isn't going to change your tension....have another go, the beginning part is always tricky as there's not much to hold onto but once you've done a couple of rounds you should find it easier to maintain a tension tight enough that it holds....then you can undo the first few rounds from the other side! ;-) x

This is a lovely design. I made this with 4mm fire polish and the spiral seems a little 'squishy". Is that normal for this stitch? I tried my best to keep a tight tension throughout but there's a lot of space in the center. I didn't have 8 lb and used 6 lb fireline. Thanks again
@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nicole....As you were using 4mm, did you try adding in an extra seed bead to account for the extra size of your main bead? Having said that - the stitch doesn't form a tight beaded rope like some of the other techniques do. If I try and squish mine - I can and the bigger the bead you use, the more space there will be in the centre. Despite this it still sits beautifully on the wrist, so I'm quite sure you've done a grand job...x

I tried this from another tutorial but became frustrated. It was slightly different in the number and size of beads, and I find yours easier in that you've also done a couple of steps differently. Seems clearer, but I still find I need written directions, similar to how I make a knitting pattern. I looked on your Etsy shop but didn't find the PDF you mention. Any possibility of that?
@JoBarclayLoggie

Hi Norma...I try and keep the two (KZbin and Etsy) separate. In other words if I do a demo on KZbin, I don’t tend to replicate it on Etsy....I do something different....BUT.... thank you for your feedback...I hear you, and I’ll see what I can do...x

@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 4 жыл бұрын
So pleased you like it Francine and absolutely..In answer to your question...how long is a piece of string? ;-) .It's entirely up to you, but what I can tell you is that it beads up really quickly so you can either bead the entire necklace length in Russian Spiral, or just a piece. Earrings would work too - obvs just a shorter length, but they'd be really pretty. Good Luck - I'd love see some pics when you're done - you can post them to my fb page - the link is in the description...x

@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can Nishrin! So sorry for my delayed response. 4mm crystals would be fine - size 8 seed beads are normally equated to 3mm beads - so maybe a little small, but you'd just need to adjust the number of 11/0s's you were picking up so that there weren't any gaps. Size 6 seed beads are used alongside 4mm beads though...x

How do you remember after so many rounds where to step up?? I always skip the large bead and put the needle in the next small bead and it ends up same pattern as yours. I dont understand the necessity of skipping up each round.
@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie Жыл бұрын
Hi Leah…The more you do the stitch the more you start to really see the pattern, anticipating what’s coming next-it becomes like “muscle memory”.😉 Each to their own when completing a round but by “stepping up” You’ll not have any excess thread showing…The way of the weave is to pass through the smaller bead just the other side of the larger bead and that’s all you’re continuing to do when finishing off a round…But then to start the next round you need to “step up” or pass through the first large bead added in that last round and the first small bead just the other side. Then you start your next round. But beading is all about finding what works for you, so if you’re happy with your method #happydays ☺️x
@leah3084

@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeannie - I don't think that there are any hard and fast rules as to what beads you can and cannot use. A different size will impact the overall thickness of your beaded rope and you will need to alter the number of seed beads you're picking up in order to maintain the neat spiral of both the bigger beads and the little seed beads....x

Hi Nicole... I use 6lb FireLine in my beading and you'd need to add in thread once, maybe twice through your design. You couldn't possibly work with one length of thread for the entire bracelet - you get in a horrible tangle! ;-) I used about 120 pearls in total - so about 40 of each colour. The pearls I used were 4mm in size and as for the needle size, I tend to always use a Size 10...hope that answers all your queries...xx

How long of thread do I need for a necklace?
@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 4 жыл бұрын
You wouldn't be able to just use one length of thread - you'd get in a horrible tangle! Also - lengths of necklaces vary, so my advice to you would be to work with a length of thread you're comfortable working with and add in new thread when necessary.

I really don't know what's happened to this video - it's my most watched tutorial , over 100 000 views and now suddenly I'm seeing complaints about subtitles. Please be assured, I didn't ask for subtitles and I've just had a look myself. At the bottom of the screen there are some icons on the right and some on the left as you're watching. The second icon on the right is a button you can press to either start subtitles or you can press it to get rid of the subtitles. Please give this a go and let me know how you get on? Many thanks, Jo x

Well that’s interesting Ana as I didn’t even know that there were subtitles. I’ll have to investigate and see if this is something that is automatically done in foreign countries or if it is in fact something that I have done without knowing it. Thank you for letting me know...x
