I have watch a turret toss with 13 sec flytime, 6,5 sec falltime. I calculated it was over 200 meters high and hit in ground with over 200 kmh speed. This turret fly so fast by explosion in the sky that the barrel break or lost it complete. The tank chassis was fully exploded, nothing than a smoked crater was there. Damn that was the best explosion. The turret stuck one meter deep in soil after landing.

The leopard 2 has ammo storage to the right of the driver as well. During the 2023 summer counter offensive one got struck in that ammo rack and the turret popped a good 20 meters in the air.

The flying turret is most likely a result of burning charges, and not detonating grenades. The last option would have disintegrated the tank.

would propellant charge burning in the open have generated enough pressure to hurl the turret that high? A physicist could calculate how much velocity the turret would have to achieve to go however high it went (much more than 30 m. i think) Turret velocity times turret weight would give you the energy required. That divided by the area of the turret base should give you energy per square foot. One cold calculate PSI required from that.

They aren't crap. it's just that the russians would rather build a lot of cheap tanks than a few really good really expensive ones.If they lose a few, so what? Plenty more where they came from. And even the best Western tank would not want to fight 10 or 20 T90's. hat was the problem the Germans had in WW II. One on one, a Shermann or T-34 had no chance against a German Tiger. But 20 Shermans or T-34's did.
