I used to fly these for fun, never thought they would be used for combat. They are called FPV drones and most of them can fly around 80mph and some can even exceed 100mph. Typically the pilot would wear goggles which show them what the drone can see.

If this were some tube launched Switchblades or something, you wouldn't see those rotor blades, and they wouldn't fly the way they do in some of those vids. You wouldn't use Switchblades for these low value target cars.

Can you imagine what other better funded militaries are working on after seeing the effectiveness of these drones. Yes they’ve had the big predators for a long time but a lorry full of these things a couple of miles behind the front lines with 5 or 6 pilots controlling some and auto pilot keeping others in the area ready to be taken over after one has been used. I expect every military organisation in the world has a very new, very well funded drone corps! What will they be working on? In addition to dropping bombs, I think: pointing lasers at targets, so artillery can hit with pinpoint accuracy; fitting them with sniper rifles; fitting facial recognition and even badge recognition cameras, so they know the name and rank of the target, allowing them to take out officers and specific high profile targets; dropping air tags so they can track tanks back to ammo dumps, repair centres and hiding places; microphones to pick up enemy conversations. Some drones will be made as small as possible, to fly unnoticed for intelligence-gathering.

The obvious answer is skip the drone operator and just let the drone identify and destroy any target it finds. They actually do that now with artillery sub-munitions. "Bonus rounds" they're called. The shell releases a couple of devices that slowly flutter down. While doing so, they scan for tanks. If they find one, they shoot an ATGM at it. No reason there couldn't be 20 or so smaller ones that identify and target humans rather than vehicles. Smart cluster munitions that hunt for meat. Imagine drones the size of grenades. Toss them in the air and they fly over to the next trench to find a nice human target. Or, a tossed grenade that doesn't just land where they're tossed but rather looks around and quickly scampers to where the human target is. Maybe it just quietly slithers, then BANG! The modern battlefield is becoming obscenely deadly. Hopefully, it stays on the battlefield.

Don’t underestimate the value of taking out cargo trucks and vans with the FPV drones. Everything the Orc’s need needs to be moved around the operating area needs trucks. Water, Food, medical supplies, fuel, ammunition and even Troops need to move by truck. Wars are won by brave soldiers and logistics. Russian’s can’t fight without ammo and troops that go days without sufficient food and water become weak and demoralized.

Pretty wild drones. You actually need a spotter drone to see the aftermath of these strikes. They sure do hit a lot i bet. I wonder what the success rate is of these drones. I believe its like $300 per drone attack. Compared to the damage, that is a low cost. Greetings, Jeff

It'll be more than that, most likely. Those Mavic drones are in the thousands range, IIRC, plus the cost of the warhead

@@Smytjf11 The spotter drones are Mavic drones in the thousands range. The suicide drones are much cheaper, about $300 in parts (essentially a quadcopter FPV kit) and assembled in basements in Ukraine.
