The reason why I think the Russians were given poor reload and accuracy is due to the fact that issuing proper muskets had been a problem in the army since Peter the Great westernized it around 1700. This persisted into the Napoleonic Wars too. The Russians much preferred using the bayonet (and it worked!). Hence the great melee bonuses.

@@FaramirsRangers perhaps. Austria wasn't that heavy in population. Russia didn't have overwhelmingly large field armies like later on. Game play wise it might be a good buff for them.

I've had playthroughs where I exclusively used Cossack Infantry.

Use the Cossack infantry with the Streltsy infantry behind them (in case they get charged by cavalry, because the Streltsly infantry can take down cavalry immediately). Very cost effective! And the Streltsy have a bonus as garrison units.

I love playing as Russia since It is one of the few " unique factions " I also love the fact that you can actually stay out of big conflicts with like France and Spain. Poland even protects you from Prussia and Austria. The only sad thing is that the units are bad. But that doesn't really affected me that much since I could get To India really quickly. So if I lost an army I had 3 other ready ;) ( because of my boming economy ). I would love to see more elite unit for Russia btw. Nice vid, thanks !

Streltsy means people who shoot. Historically their primary weapon was firearm but in this game they are melee infantry. Why?

Streltsy - basicaly unit called "Shooters" model made with bandoiler for quick reaload. Melee unit.

i only use the hand mortars for attacking sieges. with the amount of land you can expect to cover, realistically your armies will be delayed to be deployed, or a mixture of local lowerer tier troops (and arty if lucky) and cav. lots of cav. waiting for minor nations to build up to the final capital building can help with that, but that's for very slow defensive play.

It really doesn't make sense that Russia's infantry is so nerfed. I mean yeah', Russia's military was always about quantity over quality, but on the other hand it really doesn't make sense that even India (Marathas)has better infantry! Russia may have lacked in discipline and technology compared to western nations, but it was clearly superior to the Asian ones. Btw even if Russia was underdeveloped, the military was always the first to get their hands on moder technology or military trends, so in reality the military was the most advanced organization in Russia, while civil development lagged behind.

Quantity over quality is not about XVIII century Russia because its population was 13 million in 1724. For example, in Poland-Lithuanian Commonwealth it was around 12 million, in France around 22 million and around 30 million in Ottoman Empire

Yeah Marathas and Mughal musket units have too good stats historically speaking, however despite Russians have seemingly worse stats they're still better in the game. Why? Cause Russians, like other European factions get fire by rank and platoon fire drills, Marathas can only ever fire with the first line of their line infantry.

Get numbers on your side for the Russian line infantry, you def increase your chances against enemy line infantry if you have two of yours firing on one of your enemies. Even able to hold their own against the Prussians while I was moving Cossacks to flank them.

Can someone please explain this to me of how my unit counts for my line and cavalry switched. The only thing that happened was I had a reinforcing army that brought in cavalry and line so I put my line in square formation and my calvary was in the middle of them whe the battle ended. All of a sudden after the battle their unit counts switched meaning that I had a unit of 160 calvary.

It is a glitch that happens sometimes. Sometimes you will get an artillery with large numbers too. Nice glitch happens randomly

@@FaramirsRangers It also happens when you autoresolve battles and replenish immediately. I don't know how it works exactly, but this is the circumstance in which it happened.

I remember playing darthmod and saw the bardiche wielding units fight exactly the same as if they had bayonets, jumping fucking around and rolling on the ground I mean I was expecting a different animation like smashing a head from above, splitting the skulls into halves or something

Russia is quite strong in the right hands. Gorodskiye Streltsy are a super cheap unit which is very strong thanks to the huge melee attack. No one needs guns, just people and axes...

which is funny, because streltsy were musketeers in service of Russian Tsars, even their name translates to "shooters". and you can also see gunpowder pouches on their uniform in game.

The good old Russian classic of throw enough low quality infantry at the problem and eventually they will win. Also I am pretty sure you missed that one Russian guard unit which is very strong (Can't remember the name but an equivalent unit is the swiss guard for the French)

This is a pretty big myth. Many times the Russians had equalnumbers or even were outnumbered in the 1700s. This kept especially true in Napoleons invasion of Russia in 1812. Musket issues forced Russian doctrine to rely on the Bayonet.

This myth is even enforced by Holywood Cold War anti Soviet agitation. As for example Russia during Catherine the Great and her generation of generals like Suvorov Rymntitski, Rmunyansev Zadunaisky etc. Suvorov was outnumbered by Ottomans 10:1 and he still won major victories over them. The same for two Russo-Polish wars Suvorov won. By the way during Elizaveta Petrovna's campaing on Prussia Russian infantry was on pair with Prussia. Russia just left Russo-Austrian alliance after Peter III came to power. Google Rumyanstev's battle of Kagul. No European power could achieve such major victory against Ottomans. (Ottomans were armed with Prussian muskets.)

@@c32amgftw In WW2 Germany at no point outnumbered the Soviets, stop making things up. Germans captured millions of Soviet troops at the very start of the Operation Barbarossa, and even then Soviets outnumbered them. Russian doctrine heavily relied on numbers AND scorched earth and guerilla tactics when forced on defensive. During Napoleon's invasion, that was one of the few times Russians were actually outnumbered vastly by the invader. Both Swedes and Germans were heavily outnumbered by the Russians during their invasions.

WTF! Where are the Siberian hunters? Russian unique unit. They can only be built in two provinces. If you build a military type of government there. They are available early and are similar to light infantry. Almost from the start of the game.
