“When the Russian people decide to do something, that’s what Putin can’t control.”

This is a narrative is of western media. Russian people are notoriously long suffering. And many of them like Putin. Russia has gone through much worse. Not that I support Russia attempting to crush Ukraine in a brutal war of attrition. Probably the right answer was to prevent the war in the first place with proper negotiations, but that ship has long ago sailed. Now it will be a settlement after the meat grinder has had its fill.

I think you're judging Russians by Western standards. This is a country where someone could collapse on the street and a thousand of their fellow citizens will continue walking by because it's not their problem. They do not give a rats behind about each other, not in the way most of us do. It's a cultural apathy and self-interest the likes of which most people cannot understand. They would sooner rob their own elderly neighbor than do anything to work together. While there might be a small percentage who aren't like this, most of them fled the country a long time ago.

@@ApollonosI'm pretty sure Knowledge knows their own history. They probably know the USA's better than some Americans. They have a superior education system in the RF. It's a leftover from the USSR and the great competition that we, the US, had with them during the chilly years. It was a healthy competition in sports, academically and culturally. We pushed ourselves. Peer to peer is a good thing. What we have now is not good. Servey Lavrov is an exemplary Foreign Minister. He's really an academician. He can speak four (4) languages fluently and he's a penultimate diplomate. Vladimir Putin, the RF's long-term President, is trilingual, has a PhD in International Economics and a JD. Those are the people representing Russia. What is the US putting forth and how do they comport themselves on the International Stage? How are they perceived?
