@DaveGIS1232 жыл бұрын
Why do people suffer for telling the truth? Because honest people hate dishonesty, and dishonest people are afraid of being exposed. "The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright." (Proverbs 29: 27). What happens when a corrupt person becomes a country's leader? The country falls apart. "By justice a king gives a country stability, but those who are greedy for bribes tear it down." (Proverbs 29: 4). What can be done about Russia? Easy. Get rid of corruption, starting at the top. "When the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding; but when the wicked perish, the righteous thrive." (Proverbs 28: 28).

I had heard of the name, but never knew the whole story- so thank you so much for spelling out the horrors that Sergei had to bear, and we needed this huge reminder of who putin really is - and hopefully the need for his complete removal from power, and his actual 'rewards' for all of this horror. So many ruined lives, so many decent people trying to get it right - we all know it is not the Russian people, but without standing up to the tyrants, things never change.

Yes it is the russian people. It's not putin shelling hospitals and theatres, not putin driving over civilian cars with families inside, not putin shooting children. This is all done by russian hands. Government is a reflection of society's values, war is a collective responsibility. There's a reason why many companies leave russia - over 70% of russians support the war in Ukraine. If you don't believe me, talk to an average russian. You'll be shocked just how barbaric their thinking is. Constantly living in the past glory of a big empire, wanting to revive that. They don't define greatness as being democratic, not having a dictator, and connecting with other counties. They define greatness as having the will to attack other countries and expand territory. Please never say that again - "it's not the russian people". It is, they are.

@Pool Bal that's your fear and belief. Some think wealth will allow humanity to solve climate change and over population problems. Truth is, no one knows. So far, we did solved hard problems with food and crops production with tech and science (which are tied to wealth) allowing population growth to previously unsustainable levels. We could have tried to limit wealth out of the same fears back at the day, not sure it would have been the right choice to make. It's comes to progressive vs conservative dilemma: should we risk the change?

Russia has been waging virtual war on the west for years, with cyberattacks, social media disinformation campaigns and botnets (no doubt including ones that mass upvote or downvote posts), state-sponsored propaganda, political manipulation (including supporting trump and other corrupt autocrats around the world), and targeted assassinations of defectors. Zillions of fake accounts commenting endlessly on stories like this run by disinformation officers in Russia is a big part of this.

All dictatorships work like this. Hungary, Turkey too - this practice is present within the EU and NATO. This is not even about these particular dictators - Putin, Orban, Edogan - but the systematic failure that gives them the opportunity to own whole countries and their total wealth. You can kill them, remove them, and someone else will just take their place. That 2 terms maximum is a very wise rule of democratic countries. Anyone exceeding that I would immediately consider a Tyrant and deal with him accordingly.

A story of a great man, two great men, but Achilles's heel? It's been many years since the Magnitsky Act has been passed and the truth is it did little to stop or destroy Putin. Looking at what is happening in Ukraine, I dare to say, the Magnitsky Act did nothing to stop Putin. Mich more aggressive intervention was needed. So, no, it's not dictators' Achilles's heel.
