A U.S. Navy destroyer was “aggressively approached” by a Russian ship in the North Arabian Sea yesterday, officials said.
The Russian Navy ship was dangerously close to the USS Farragut before the American ship “sounded five short blasts,” the Navy’s 5th Fleet announced today.

Former US Navy here. The media always hypes these stories. The reality is that we were always up on deck waving to our Russian counterparts, and when they did things like this--we loved it. It's part of maritime comradery and brings a little excitement on those boring deployments.

Just checking each other out. My ship met up with a KYNDA Class Russian Cruiser on the way to Vietnam. I was aboard an AE. We both stopped to view each other. The Russian ship had missiles and guns everywhere they could mount one, an awesome sight. Except for our Attack Sub escort who would have blown the Cruiser out of the water, we were defenseless. We waved and saluted. Friends today, enemies tomorrow.. it’s all up to the Politicians. Vietnam Vet USN

Isn't just wonderful the love between these two countries? And it's a long lasting love, since the 1940s.
@gunterodim1535
@gunterodim1535 Жыл бұрын
It started even earlier, in the 19th century during the American Civil War. The Russian Empire acted against the interests of the British Empire and supported the US, and even sent 6 large warships to the shores of the US to help Abraham Lincoln in case Britain wanted to attack again or other countries wanted to intervene. And these Russian ships also helped in the war against the southern states. So in some way the fate of the United States could have taken a different path if the Russians had not always helped them and had not given them Alaska almost for free.

@gunterodim1535

@@CASA-dy4vs this will not happen if there is no change in leadership in the United States. The United States violated all relations with Russia. Putin in the 2000s applied for Russia to join NATO. But he was refused. Then it became obvious what plans the United States had - to always remain a political opponent of Russia and oppose Russia's interests. This is exactly what happened when Russia went to protect the Russian people in Ukraine in 2014, and the US imposed sanctions. Ukrainians burned Russians alive in the city of "Odessa" in the administrative building. You can google this video. So many Russians suffered throughout Ukraine in 2014. So it is clear that the US is an enemy of Russia and will not put up with Russia until it is as weak as it was in the 1990s. In those days, Russia was just a poor gas station. Now everything is different and your economy sucks, not ours.

I've been in similar situation's , (during my gov't sponsored travel 'round the world), in the Med. in 1980 with Cdn. Navy. Our ship, a Late 20th century destroyer that had a top speed of 25 - 27 knots. Their ship, a large hi-speed frigate that could average around 33 knots and max short rum at 35+ knots depending on conditions. It literally ran circles around us and we never even got close enough to see its name with magnification assists. It was all fun and games. But, now it's a lot more serious. My gen. was not so desperate. They had hopes. This gen. is a lot more desperate than mine was. Fortunately we have no direct problem with Russia yet.... It's China that everyone is watching now.. they have united at least 1/2 the world against themselves. And both are busy with the consequences of the global Mother Nature's Karma Delivery Service..

@john snow In our department of the Ministry of Defense they said: It is noted that it was the American crew that acted unprofessionally. The destroyer crossed the course of the Russian ship, although, according to international rules, it had to give way to an obstacle to the right. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation believes that the destroyer team deliberately violated. It is noted that the crew of the Russian ship, on the contrary, showed professionalism. The sailors conducted a maneuver, "which allowed to prevent a collision with the intruder ship."
