Какой невероятный и великолепный концерт! - - - - Я думаю, в Транскрипциях прозвучала вся суть творчества Баха : его мысли чувства о трагичности человеческого существования. Исполнение ---- впечатляющее.. В мощной, эмоциональной интерпретации великого музыканта Михаила Васильевича Плетнева все музыкальные темы были проинтонированы, "пропеты" оркестром убедительно, космически значимо. - - - Оркестр звучал как мощный хор! Последние. "Es ist vollbracht" и Пассакалия - ---вселенская скорбная песнь.... Спасибо, Михаил Васильевич, Вам и вашим соратникам за Приношение великому Баху!

Another wonderful interpretation showing the power of orchestration. Only a true Artis would have taken the passacaglia form the organ and render this meaningful interpretation by the orchestra. Thank you again

Thank you for memories of those years. 2001 and so on. It was beautiful time here in Russia. And it was also time when i opened Pletnev for myself and passion for classical music in general. So it is really sweetest memories for me! Thanks a lot for those recordings!

@LaddAllardondi Плетнев уехал из России, от России, а не от правительства. Я живу в России и не вижу ни какого беспредела! Россия самая лучшая страна и чем дальше тем это явнее. Режим в стране так же , самый лучший, все для людей.

Ammetto di non amare tutto degli arrangiamenti (ma potrebbe anche essere in parte un problema di presa del suono degli ingegnieri), con fiati troppo presenti e agressivi ed anche pesantezza negli archi. Stranamente mi vengono in mente nelle varie sonorità e lo stile incisioni di Karl Richter CHE ADORO DA SEMPRE! Ciò non toglie niente alla grandezza degli interpreti ed al loro immenso talento, sia instrumentale che musicale per l'orchestra ed i suoi rimarchevoli solisti, sia naturalmente del loro direttore di cui ogni minimo cenno, sguardo significano comprensione profonda del genio di Bach, rispetto ed ammirazione per il suo stradivario, il RNO, gioia per la condivisione col pubblico di cotanta Bellezza e, evidente ai miei occhi da sempre, la modestia.

I remember that in a way, this programme felt very weird just because of how eclectic it was. The concert also included a few transcriptions by Schoenberg, Elgar and Reger (sadly they are not in this video) and everything just felt too different stylistically

Transcriptions are problematic in general - they mix the perceptions of their creators and the limits of the instruments that they are intended to be performed on. Most of the time, they miss the true authentic composers' intentions. That is what happened to Stokowski's trans. for the Little Fugue in G minor. Its main subject/theme, by definition, requires more serene attitude and not a playful one. However - all the other trans, by him, were very good. I liked very much Pletnev's own trans. for the famous Toccata and Fugue in D minor, because it fitted so well to its dramatic nature, as well as for the complex of its all other themes which were given fair share of expression to the corresponding instruments of the orchestra. Respighi's trans.was also very good and concluded this whole special concert. Bravissimi for the conductor and all the orchestra, Thanks for uploading.

8:35 very hot flautist. I notice he stayed clear of Schoenberg's arrangement of the Eb Prelude and Fugue....not one of the best in the genre but it's not so easy to pull this kind of thing off. Stravinsky struck gold in this take on Bach (' Vom Himmel hoch da Komm ich her' )
