Hundreds of thousands of Russians have fled their country since Moscow announced a "partial" mobilization on September 21. Many have traveled to Uzbekistan to seek refuge. The Russians say they are settling into their news lives and are unsure how long they'll be abroad.

They were not against Chechen war during which Russian military destroyed the country down to rubble. They were not against Georgian war. They were not against 2014 russian invasion of Crimea and Luhansk/Donbas. They were not against Syrian wars where russians again turned cities to rubble - in fact the only thing they typically can say about Syrian war is that it's all US fault like every bad thing in the world is. They only against when their own asses are on line to be sent to war. Most of them believe that it's all evil US dollar conspiring against Russians in order to take over Rusian wast resources.

@@sk-sm9sh yes they are brainwashed severely. Russia never really had a democratic system. They could have established a parliament and implemented many other social and freedom reforms centuries ago but Russia was allways an absolutist system behind other european countries. Therefore, the mentality of the power in One person was allways the rule because the population has that mindset as the most effective way to govern. This can also reveal a fear of Partition into many nations, the other european countries never had this because they never had different ethnicities.

That's the sense I have many of these videos....they're avoiding their own conscription but are willing to return to Russia if the "conflict" is over without saying what "over" means. Hundreds of thousands have fled Russia. If they had stayed in Russia and protested the war things may be different. They fled in selfish response. Will these people return to Russia after the war ? Change is hard and many will die fighting the government but Russia and Russian citizens are worth it. There are not enough police in Russia to stop an uprising. The real heroes will be the true Russians who love their country enough to stand up to the government long enough to stop this murderous war. If you truly love your country you don't run away. You stay and fight for what you know is right. Tough choice for sure but in my opinion it is the only way this war stops.

Others just get some local jobs in Uzbekistan - as neither language not culture is not a barrier and russians are fine working without official status as they been used to this type of arrangements back in russia to cut on taxes and unofficial work arrangement is not a remote idea to uzbeks too.

I remember the American draft dodgers coming here to Canada in the 1960s and 70s. There weren't as many. It wasn't as sudden. Their plight wasn't so desperate. The cultures are different but not so different as whey would be between Christian Russians and Muslim Uzbeks.Anyway, a lot of them stayed in Canada even after amnesty had been granted to them. They are blended into the fabric of Canada and they represent just another refugee group that has come to this nation of immigrants.

My uncle lives in BC and had friends in Seattle he frequently visited during the Vietnam war and because he was at the age where he could be drafted if he was American he was often pulled aside and questioned when crossing back into Canada.

Sonja the cat is über cool, as are all of the folks in this video who don't even flinch as shells explode nearby and the Wagner Group terrorists push to the outskirts of Bakhmut. Very tough, inspiring people the Ukrainians and those on the ground who are helping them. Thanks to Radio Liberty for the excellent reporting in an extremely dangerous war zone.

I don't feel the need to say sorry, for example. I was always vocally opposing Putin and his boyband of thieves, many times I've been drugged through the mud by my own people, calling me "brainless liberal" and "western bot". You, demanding an apology from those who didn't support this shit, are just making things harder for normal Russians.

"If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream -- and not make dreams your master; If you can think -- and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two imposters just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools; If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!" If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings -- nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -- Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And -- which is more -- you'll be a Man, my son!" Rudyard Kipling If Long live Russia! The truth will be ours and victory will be ours!
