In the process of getting a folding e-bike as I've determined that is what best suits my modest needs for short travels while camping (they load into my camper van.) Had two models narrowed down on my short list including the Rad Expand 5. When I went to 'test drive (ride)' the 2 the retail rep showed me also the Magicycle Jaguarundi. Compared feature differences and design limitations. Got me thinking before outright buying then and there. Just finishing watching your 2 KZbin videos and man...your input and unbiased opinion as well as advice was priceless. After watching I'm impressed and my choice has been made. I'm going with the Magicycle Jaguarundi. Thank you very much Russ for your video.

Hi Russ, Cruise control seems a little much for me. I’m an older rider and have been mountain biking since the 80’s. Retired two years ago and switched to e bikes partially due to the wife recovering from double knee replacement surgery. We went with mid motor “speed pedalacs” torque sensors and no throttle. Totally enjoy the natural pedaling experience of these bikes. They are on the lighter side at 50 Pounds, and suitable for pavement and off road. We can climb the steepest grades like we’re till 21 and still get a decent workout. Your channel is always fun to watch for us older riders. Hope you can ride in the winter too.

Re: folding bike folding pedals. They are a must and there is a great deal of difference between brands. My inexpensive 20x4 folding ebike had pedals that had sharp outside barbs/edges that scraped my ankles to the point of Eliquis enabled bleeding. I bought a pair of pedals from Amazon that had have rounded outside ends. Aluminum and plastic construction and well made. They have sufficient grip for ordinary use. There's always so many things to tweak on bikes, especially less expensive ones.

I have 3 ebikes. I'm thinking of buying 2 more. I need one for the wife. Due to our advance age (over 80), I'm thinking a 3 wheel would work better for her. We saw one in Florida. Maybe, one day, you can add a 3 wheel ebike to the array. Then she can ride with me. For me, I can still ride 2 wheelers. The commuter Magicycle got me thinking.

Nice folding bike and they appear to be having a very nice price discount going on as well. Enjoying your reviews. I have no problems with how you do the range tests, the important thing is to do it the same way for all bikes. This way the only variable is the bike. Of course different riders will get different range results, the way you do it we can compare the bike and not how you ride it. Thanks

Hi Russ. It is getting colder here too in south central PA. I am thinking it is now sweatshirt and windbreaker season. The coldest I have ridden in is 55° and was fine. It does depend on how much wind there is as to how cold it is. Yeah, if you took the keys off your bikes you would have to set up a station like the valet parking guys have! Hey, 29 miles is fantastic for that bike and based on how you ride.

It’s hard to find a lightweight ebike that doesn’t cost 3k$+. Even these folders are heavy to lift into the back of SUVs or trucks. The hub motors are pretty heavy (change the back tire sometime and you will understand) and fat tires really resist rolling compared to something like 27.5 x 2” tires. Full suspension is also really heavy and I don’t ride hard enough off road anymore to need 170mm full suspension ebike. Mid drive is good if you like to shift a lot but wears the bike drivetrain faster. I ride a 750 watt hub drive bike with a 14 ah battery and it weighs 49 lbs. Can ride it on level with the no assist but the hills around me are long and steep so electric helps with that for sure. Still able to go around 50-70 miles before I hit 1 battery bar left.

I agree about the GoPro Wide lens vs SuperView; i think SuperView feels faster because you can see more on the side of the screen. The lens distortion makes the sides of the screen feel like they're passing by faster or something. It also makes things to your side appear closer than they actually are. It can make someone 6 ft to the side of you appear as if you almost ran into them ha ha.

Hi Russ! Great review. I was wondering what bell you use on your bike. You don't provide a link for it.
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight Жыл бұрын
Yes, I don't provide a link because it isn't always available! It is purchased on AliExpress.com which is a division of Alibaba.com (from China). I found one vendor on Amazon selling three at one time, but no longer does it. So, I went to China (via the ap) and bought 10 of them from another vendor there. Now HE doesn't sell it either! It seems people buy the bells and then re-sell them on these shopping platforms. Once they are gone, they are gone! Here's probably the original though, but you can see it costs a lot of money at around $17.66... but after I bought 10 of the "knock off" Chinese versions (which do essential the same thing), I got mine for only $1.80 each! Big difference in price! Anyway, after looking at this, go to AliExpress and search Bicycle Bells and see if you can find some that are similar to order. But if you only need one, well, you can always get the original. amzn.to/3OeqZFI

Thanks again Russ, I'm torn between this bike and the Rad Expand 5. Do you notice much of a difference having fronk fork suspension? I would maybe hit a little sand or normal grass and not sure if this would be a better option than the Rad Expand 5 since they removed that feature and now the LCD screen cost extra. What would you choose between the two?
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight 2 жыл бұрын
My wife has the Rad Mini Step-Thru 2, my sister has two of those and also a Rad Expand 5. Of the three bikes, this Magicycle Jaguarundi is the best performing and best bike for the money in my opinion. The Expand 5 took off too many features that the Rad Mini offered. Many people feel they cheapened the bike and raised the price on it. No suspension is not fun. The mini and this Jaguarundi both have front fork suspension. Plus this Jaguarundi has a larger clearance to step through too. And let's not forget that this bike has hydraulic brakes whereas the other two have mechanical disc brakes. I can't emphasize enough how much difference in stopping power this means. Lastly, look at the price... if you use the affiliate link in the description of my video before you order the bike, you help my channel out and then use the Russ1 code to save and additional $100 off the already discounted price on the website. To me, it's clear that the Jaguarundi is the best decision among these three bikes. Oh, don't forget, you can add a front basket and rear rack too if you need it. I think they are still working on the rear racks though, but that is coming.

You’re getting quite a fleet of bikes for sure. Seems like companies are mostly into KZbin for advertising at this point. Other channels I watch have been getting lots of offers, it’s been amazing all the content. Do you get lots of non-bike offers you decline? I watch a channel that does high powered scooters and he’s been getting more basic bikes, scooters, and unicycles, which seems like a bad strategy on their part. A guy who rides 50+ mph scooters is not going to be super impressed with the Engwe or a 12 mph EUC. Curious if you are getting offered products way outside your usual category.
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I turn down a lot of products being offered. More turned down than accepted. Many are new ebike companies, but others are products that do not have anything to do with ebikes. While it is tempting to try these products, I don't think people would be interested. The Varla scooter and Metro Mobility mobility scooter are the only items I accepted to review. The Varla scooter is a transportation vehicle as is the mobility scooter, but in general it seems most people watching my channel are really only interested in ebikes.

@@RussIsRight makes sense. I’ve definitely seen some of these crossover type videos that didn’t work out the companies’ way. It is entertaining, but not what they had in mind to give somebody something they’ll hate and say they hate. Your other reviews were good, fwiw. Sometimes it works out, the Varla might not have been something you’d have otherwise bought, but it has its uses.

Do you calibrate the speedometer reading against GPS on your review bikes? Most bikes do not accurately convey speed out of the box (same for motor scooters).
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight 2 жыл бұрын
I do not. It is not that critical to me.
@rodneybosco7376
@rodneybosco7376 2 жыл бұрын
@@RussIsRight I understand from your perspective it may not be critical. However, you are providing viewers with both speed on your test hill and range on a single charge. Both of those variables are dependent on proper calibration of the speedometer/odometer, which at least on Lectric ebikes is done via the tire size setting, using a GPS as a benchmarking tool. I had to set my tire size to roughly 25” to get accurate readings even though the wheels are nominally 20”. This is a common problem on motor scooters and different manufacturers’ products can vary widely in terms of speedometer accuracy. I suspect the same is true for ebikes. Since you review different ebike products and viewers may be making judgments on these parameters, it is something you may want to do. This is not meant as criticism, as I’m a big fan of your channel. I just want Russ to always be right 😋😂

Sir, may I please have your opinion, Jaguarunfi or Lectric XP 3.0? thank you!
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight Жыл бұрын
Jaguarundi has hydraulic brakes. It also has a longer running battery unless you get the Lectric XP with the larger battery option. Step over height is easier to get over on the Jaguarundi. Popularity-wise, the Lectric is more popular. To get to the battery, you must fold the bike on the Lectric. To change it on the Jaguarundi, the battery is exposed and easier to remove. To keep people from stealing the battery, the Lectric has the battery hidden. The key must be inserted in the bike for the Lecric to run. Not needed for the Jaguarundi. Your ride, your choice. But for me, I like the Jaguarundi due to the features mentioned.

Is THIS more powerful then the Lectric XP 3.0 on hills? Anyone have a comparison?
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight Жыл бұрын
Based on specifications, the Magicycle Jaguarundi has 80 nm of torque. The Lectric XP 3.0 has 55nm of torque. Torque is typically what you want to use to measure its hill climbing ability. Having said that, the Jaguarundi is a 600 watt motor and the Lectric XP 3.0 is 500 watts. However, peak power of the Jaguarundi is 750 watts, whereas the Lectric is 1000 watts. Battery for the Jaguarundi is 52 volts/15 ah, and the Lectric is 48 volts/ 10 ah but 14 ah if you pay for the long range version. Using a peak of 1000 watts would also mean you will go through your battery faster than a peak of 750 watts. Up to you, but I'd say the Magicycle might be better for the hills and range based on specs.
