Rust on my 2022 Tundra?

I can understand why people want the fancy new stuff. I still dig my 2000 tundra. Probably going to outlast that twin turbo v6.

This tailgate garnish thing is like Toyota’s Achilles heel! 4runner has it too!!! The 2023-2024 4runner have solved it by adding a rubber gasket to separate the crude plastic garnish from the painted metal but it’s a manufacturing defect on the garnish part. Yesterday I just added PPF on my 2024 Tundra tailgate. I couldn’t get the film inserted at the right hand lower corner but managed for the rest of the gap. Other than the door trim plastic storage bin (at bottom of door) being so F cheap, I think they improved a lot on the 2024. I do hope to keep mine for a long time

Toyota has some of the worst paint & corrosion preventative of any manufacture. My Tacoma needed rust repair in drivers door jam within its first two years of ownership. When I visit the dealer to show them they had another Tacoma in that week with the same issue.

Chevy & GM have the worst paint, period. Got rid of an AT4 that was absolute shit from paint to engine. Never ever had a problem with a Toyota myself, but anyone who ever has… Toyota will 100% stand behind their vehicles. Most other manufacturers will ghost you and gaslight you until you either go away or hire an attorney.

@jackedhorse We are talking about corrosion prevention, and Toyota is the fking worst at engineering trucks and prepping them correctly to prevent body corrosion. Like the way they sandwiched layers of unprotected steel to make the bed and water would get in there to create cancerous rot. Same with the tailgate. Mine had both. They had to replace the tailgate because it was within 12 months, but the rust around the wheel wells didn't get covered. They have had those issues going all the way back to the 80's.

My 20 Tundra has ZERO rust. Have KROWN applied every year and wash often.

I just purchased a 24 Tundra Limited TRD Off Road with the regular I force max engine, It only has a 100 miles on it now but it seems to run good with no problems, wind, noise, wiper noise, etc. Just hope I did not make a mistake after listening to your video. . I hope they have fixed these problems on the 24.

A bit mind boggling that Toyota managed to make the exact same mistake with the Tundra that has been an issue with the 4Runner for 14 years. Maybe stop putting loosely attached plastic over painted steel? Just a thought.

hood, front doors and the bed is all aluminum but the tailgate is steel.
