Great work dude, you're getting the hang of it! The new welder is an awesome win. Good point about people not having a crack these days. I think a lot of it is that there's so much online judgement going on and people are just scared to have a go. It's not helped by many YTers showing perfect results from professional skills. YTers like you are helping to break that!

I can only encourage you to keep going, from my own experience. Do not let others dissuade you. Yes, there will be times when you ask yourself the hard questions, and you will feel despondent and WTF. But take a break and then get back into it. When I started circuit racing in 1995 I knew nothing. I jumped in and bought a car, and then did short courses at night at TAFE - spray painting, metal fabrication and welding. Nothing onerous but combined with what I was learning as I went I was able to build and rebuild several cars. People ask me when they see my projects "Am I a mechanic?" but I was actually in IT! That welding machine - I struggled with an old one for many years but bought that lightweight unit about 18 months ago. Great reviews, as you mentioned, and well justified. A great little machine. Price has jumped a bit from the couple of hundred I paid but still a cost effective little machine with some great features. Keep up the good work. Look forward to your next instalment.

Cheers mae :) and yeah welding tech has come a long way, i couldn't believe how much easier that new machine was making things, and if nothing else i'm not second guessing myself if it's the machine or me as i know the machine is doing the right thing. Honestly right now ti's just time, i just need the time to get in there and knuckle down and get it done, but as you'll see in the upcoming video i keep getting thrwated haha. I'll get there!

100% agree with you about doing it yourself! People are so afraid of failure these days - failing is just by-product of learning and getting better. The most successful people in the world are also the ones who have failed the most. Keep doing what you're doing man. I'm going through the same thing right now with vinyl wrapping. Started with some easier parts of the car and moving onto more difficult areas. 2 steps forward and 1 step backwards - progress not perfection at this stage!

Cheers dude, oh man i want to give vinyl wrapping a go one day but that also scares me. i do vinyl graphics etc, and that can be tricky enough but full sheets... dam!

Mate what awesome progress you're making with this. You may think it's slow but it's better than what many of us can manage at times! Love your do-it-yourself attitude towards this whole project and how much you're learning (and teaching!) along the way. Can't wait to see this thing on the road!

Thanks mate! it's comments like this and support of legends like you that make me want to keep filming! the car will be built regardless but sometimes it's hard to get the motivation to film haha. Appreciate the support :)

@@TheNuggetProject No worries at all! I suspecctttt (totally not creepy I promise🫤 ) that I'm fairly local to you, so hopefully I'll see this on the road or at a cars and coffee one day! There's another AW11 I see on a regular basis around here too, absolutely love them.

@@mysticgreg oh nice! well there is a red one with a K24 in it only a few mins from me, i've bought a bunch of his old parts from him, they are REALLY rare to see on the road these days, i'll definitely have this car out and about once it's done :D

If you want to learn some tips and tricks when repairing panels, and complex shapes, then check out this channel. Some of it has subtitles but most don't. No matter. You don't need to know everything they are saying. But the work they did on the Skyline R33 GTR which they rebuilt basically from scratch, as well as the Datsun Z is just amazing! www.youtube.com/@51machines

Well done, we all start not knowing anything, practice gives knowledge. Don't know where your up to with your repairs but one thing I've learnt, and noticed in your boot surround repair, might be applicable elsewhere...break your repair panels down to match the way the car was made. looking at the boot surround panel 1 was the outer skin which folded down into the boot recess, panel 2 was under than and formed the recess and lip the boot rubber clamps onto usually will result in a series of simpler to make panel pieces. Don't be afraid to cut the outer panel slightly bigger, repair the under panel then remake the outer withthe folder. .8-1.0 will fold nicely and easily. You will end with more smaller panels needing being made, but they will be simpler, but the bonus will be less filler work and factory looking seams, which is always nice, and quicker overall. On thin stuff, specially onto old Japanese steel run a series of tacks along the joins, alternating ends etc to prevent overheating and warping. You will get there, now get back in the shed!

can I recommend you have a look at some KZbin videos from these guys, Trev's Blog and Wray Schelin's ProShaper Workshop, this will help you with the welding and panel work. Their great for using slapping spoons, shrinking disc, making patch panels and welding. Where you welding your panels put a flat piece of cooper behind it, makes a big difference. Eastwoods do an internal frame coating paint, comes with a long thin hose and nozzle, works great on internal rust. Best thing I ever did was move to a Tig, best thing for panel work. Also dump the etch primer and go with epoxy primer, etch primer can react with bog and attracts moisture which causes problems later on down the road after your painted the car, epoxy doesn't react with anything!
@TheNuggetProject3 ай бұрын
Cheers mate :) and yup i'm using a flattened copper pipe behind where i can access and i'ts helped heaps, and also i have ditched the etch primer and do use an epoxy primer as well :)

Keep Plugging away at it. And Stitching & Butting. 👍🏻 Suggest you look into Cavity Wax or Chassis Liner in an aerosol can with the flex tube. Get good coating inside the Rails etc really easily & messy. Good Luck

Great watching this! I looked into those panels and was shocked at the shipping costs. Looking forward to the next installment. 🙂

yeah man aboslutely nuts, anything shipped from the states is crazy expensive now it sucks, i'm pretty nervous about stuffing them up to be honest considering how expensive the ywere 😬

For me your car looks nearly rust free 😂 Thanks for showing the Wolf steel body panels. I was thinking of buying them too, but shipping is killing me 😢
@TheNuggetProject3 ай бұрын
Yeah the shipping is a killer! I think with the exchange rate and shipping it was almost $600 AUD for these landed, definitely hurt
