1 sprinkler outputs 15 ml/splash. Yours outputs only 12 ml/splash because its dividing 15/4 planters and rounding down from 3.75 to 3 per planter. If you use 3 planters per sprinkler then it's 15/3 planters which gives 5 ml per planter for a total of 15 ml.
@tamura77Rust4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for heads up. I prefer to splash boxes in sets of 4 so I will keep it like this but I will pin this comment in case anyone wants to water their plants differently. 1 box = 180mlpm, 2 box = 168mlpm across two and 3 box = 180mlpm across 3 and then as in the video 4 box = 144mlpm across 4. That's super annoying.. if they just changed the splash rate to something divisible by 4 then there would be no need for any circuits..... hopefully that gets changed in the future so we don't lose water to rounding.

I would always try to build near fresh water so you can start farming asap. On my server a rust second is 0.98 to 1.02 seconds from what I noticed playing with clocks, I did one that transforms the 1 hour cycle in 24 hours and goes faster at night so is syncronised with the light. If you want a dependable electric system keep it as simple as possible and use longer times on timers, if you try to go down to a few seconds you'l have a hard time. Also time related automations are buggy so do it for the fun of it, don't depend on them.
@suqdic2 жыл бұрын
Depending on what electronics you use, some will add a latency when the power goes through (this is why you can set timers way shorter than the normal amount a timer would give you by daisychaining memory cells for example). A second is still a second in Rust.

I'm currently running 3 floors of 4x4 for a total of 432 plants with 18 pumps and 3 water purifiers. Each set of 4 planters has only 1 sprinkler so I do have to water a little each growth cycle. The interesting thing is that when I water by splashing the jug, the water is divided by 8 as it also (magically) hits the planters in the floor ABOVE! It doesn't affect the planters bellow! BTW the top floor I use half for cloning the YGGYGG hemp and the other half for corn to turn into fertilizer.

I noticed you use multiple fluid switches since you directly combine the water pumps to the fluid switches. You're better off putting everything together with water combiners and then putting those all to one fluid switch, so everything runs on 1 switch instead of needing a new one every 6 sprinklers.
@tamura77Rust4 жыл бұрын
Sprinkler pass through only works for a maximum of 6 sprinklers regardless of water intake. Also if you try to flow all the water into one fluid switch then split it afterwards, the switch won't output all of that water. At least that's what I found, I might run some tests and see if combining then splitting is viable for large scale farm, but I am pretty sure there is a limit to the function of one fluid switch.
@janderkheesen124 жыл бұрын
@@tamura77Rust Hi, I tested it myself and if connect all the pumps to water combiners and combine those into more water combiners, until you have 1 exit point with all the water output and then connect that exit point to 1 switch, you can use that switch to passthrough the sprinklers indefinitely until you run out of water output. I have done this with more than 60 sprinklers on 1 switch, it's much more efficient that way and a lot less expensive.
@tamura77Rust4 жыл бұрын
@@janderkheesen12 So your pass through goes through 60 sprinklers? Or do you use fluid splitters after the fluid switch? I tried a long pass through and it was always capped at 6 sprinklers. I guess I will retest this when I am next on rust.

If the timer is too hard to make, I recommend using 1 sprinkler per 4 boxes and then just manually refill it every 2-3 hours. If you're not using fertilizer you can use 2 and over water(because the plant is capped at 67% growth anyway) but of course do what suits you :)

first off... much thanks. great information here and well put together. much appreciated. my question is about the last thing you mention in a seemingly offhanded way. the fact that if you're not planning on composting then over-saturating doesn't cause any additional problems and the circuit can be avoided entirely. do i understand correctly that with a constant source of water such as a river/lake (as you've suggested) a 6 pumps/8 sprinkler setup could simply be set to run full time for it's associated 4x4? (at least until the required electrical components could be acquired.) is this level of simplification worth considering? how much does fertilizer actually help? and i guess just as important a question is how much help does it provide in relation to the effort it requires? i.e. would the decision of forgoing composting, fertilizing and the sprinkler/timer circuit setup as a whole be worth if for the simplification of the setup and elimination of the composting entirely?
@tamura77Rust4 жыл бұрын
Its up to you and what you have available. With the recent horse dung nerf the only way to get fertilizer really is to bulk buy pickles and use them. Technically the extra cloth per hour you get, using the fertilizer from the pickles will yield you more scrap than you paid (for pickles). So yes it is worth it. However then you have to consider: - are you close to bandit camp -are you willing to keep the water level constant -can you be bothered topping up boxes with fertilizer. Before I would setup a horse farm and say 100% its worth to use fertilizer and keep water at 100%. But after the nerf... its highly debatable. It takes a lot of extra time that could arguably be put to better use (such as setting up more layers). I am hoping they add another way to get fertilizer, but consider all those things and make your own decisions as I only use fertilizer if I am close to bandit camp. The reason I said that in an "offhanded" way is because I assume if you're coming to an automated sprinkler guide, you already know why you need automation and when you don't.
