Rusted Warfare Review

My thoughts on Rusted Warfare, a 2017 indie RTS from Corroding Games. In short, it's a simplified but well-done Supreme Commander/Total Annihilation style RTS with one resource and no commander unit.

Fun fact, this game was made by a single person in Darwin, Australia. (One of the smallest cities here.) Yes this is a very nice indie RTS! Multiplayer can be pretty fun. Its lack of commander units is for its benefit I think.

Crazy one person can make a better game than these huge game companies churning out trash every year. Just bought this in 2023 and it is still great. Satisfying my RTS itch on mobile

This is a great game! I'm happy to see you review it, btw you did a good job on it. Also I'm not sure if you're talking about the poor pathfinding or not, but from what I could see in the video you are double clicking to run away (displayed with the yellow line, instead of green), which makes your units attack everything in the area before going to where you want them to.

This rts gameplay is insanely good especially in there discord server which has mods

while a mediocre computer game at best (unmodded), bringing in mods rusted warfare becomes an amazingly diverse game, with mods ranging from sc2 inspired fully fleshed out rts games, to medieval based farming sims. Not to mention it is undoubtedly the best rts game available for mobile, i dont think there is another rts game of this style on mobile that can even compare.

I have wars with my wife and 10 year old son more often than we watch TV or play xbox together. Each war lasts an average of an hour and a half. It's a great time killer on an airplane trip or anything as boring or long.

me and a couple friends just picked it up recently, it's super fun and the simplicity makes it easy to start short games. Though let its simplicity not fool you, some games can go on forever especially if players know how to defend their homebase lmao.

The Graphics are from a game that was unreleased called Hard Vacuum. Hard Vacuum was in development one year after Dune 2 and one year before the first Warcraft.

This game is also on mobile. KZbin recommended this video to me and I'm suprised someone actually reviewed it. I play the mobile version and on that front, it's pretty much the only rts thats worth playing. Mods also work on the platform so it's endless fun for me and the few people I play with.

I'm really happy somebody decided to make an rts warcraft 3 style game for mobile. I just wish there was more diversity in the units rather than tank, hover tank, heavy tank, plasma tank etc.

I see this game as a templater for modding. It is a war "simulator" that can be customized through mods that make it so much better such as major experimentals.

I'd like to offer two small tidbits to this review: The game is also kept updated and available for mobile phones (at least on the Google play store) And the main community is very close knit and resides in a small Discord server with a lively multiplayer and modding scene, as well as daily balance discussions and such for the game separated by channel. An excellent review, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any missed information that may have discolored your view of the game. Considering it has to be updated for at least two regular store cycles (Steam updates and Google Play), it's understandable the game might seem a bit lacking so far as it's being made under a single developer (as far as I'm aware).

This is one of my favorite RTS games! (My actual favorite being Age of Empires 2) I like the simple-but-deep nature of it. It's definitely my chill out RTS, not my go hard RTS. Definitely the best RTS on mobile too. They managed figured out a pretty good control scheme that works for it

00:25 Forged Alliance Steam statistics don’t include people playing the modded version: Forged Alliance Forever. FAF has at least tens of thousands of active players. faforever.com You also keep mentioning a “steep learning curve” with the Supreme Commander games which I’m not sure I agree with. If you want I could spare a few hours sometime and help you out with Supreme Commander 2. If you’re interested in FAF instead I could ask some friends which are just as willing to help. Finding players for SC2 can get difficult in certain timezones so that’s why I’ve been working on an SC2 discord server for 6 years that now has 1,600 people: discord.gg/3xf6cRn

This game is so underrated. I also really like it because its very modifiable. The mods for this game are very fun but one problem is that getting them can be annoying because you would have to through some very sketchy websites to download them. But its very worth it. The game comunity is very small but they still somehow mannage to make great mods. Also i feel like the game has not as much recognition it deserves tho. Thank you for bringing such a good game to light :)

I think your view on this game would wildly alter if you tried out mods, and another thing not nearly enough people talk about is how well optimised Rusted Warfare is, sure, its a simple game, and dosent require anything special to play, but the fact you can still run smoothly while thousands of units fight on the battlefield is a welcome feature.

I dont think this game was really designed to get you playing non-stop, as mentioned in the video, its a small apetizer that you can take a bite out of whenever youre bored, and that alone makes it more than worth buying, atleast to me, since i enjoy Indie and RTS games
