This is absolutely so beautiful ! Everything is not only beautiful , but has a purpose . I remember my Dad going to auctions , etc . & buying very old pieces of furniture . He had a gift of repairing & refinishing ( when needed ) old treasures . But one piece he had , I treasured the most . It was a huge cutting board that my precious Granddaddy made for my Grandma . It wasn't some perfectly measured board with squared edges . He made it from slabs he had milled from a tree he cut down , pieced them together & sanded . Every little imperfection was left along with the beautiful knots . But the other reason I treasured it was because the memories I had of standing really close to Grandma as she stood in front of it with the skirts of her dresses ( that she had sewn ) & her old fashioned shoes . I watched as she cut meat , made huge batches of homemade biscuits , pies , etc on that board . 70 years later , I can see that scene like it was yesterday . So when Daddy passed away my other siblings wanted various pieces of antique furniture , firearms , etc ~ I wanted Grandma's old cutting board made with the strong & loving hands of my Granddaddy .

As soon as I saw the bottom drawer on casters, and you mentioned handles, the first thought that came to mind was wooden thread spools! Very warm and homey. ❤️ I like the graphics on the wheeled crate under your Indiana Cabinet. Would you consider making your own rope-handle? You could drill holes at any distance either side of the graphics and tie knots larger than the holes on the inside of the crate-drawer... Or repurpose a leather belt. Or mount a long object like a wooden spoon on spacers so you can get your fingers behind the spoon to use it as a drawer pull. Driftwood, horns or antler pieces might also work. Another approach would be to make a loop out of something and attach it to the inside of the crate so that the loop hangs over the top of the crate front. You could use a staple gun and a grosgrain ribbon or a folded fabric scrap. The ribbon would have the advantage of not catching on any toes. 'Looking forward to the pantry tour video. I am struggling with the cost of nice looking countertop herb and lettuce gardens. On this windy 15 degree day, it would be nice to not travel to a grocery store for fresh greens. I am trying to be honest with myself about keeping it going for the long haul if it looks more like a nice piece of furniture in my renovated kitchen. (💲💲❤️💲💲)

Hi Could you recommend a good knife for the kitchen to chop vegetables and cut meat? Or what to look for in a knife? Mine are from pampered chef and every time you want to use it you have to sharpen it. I see you were using a special looking knife. Also, when those clay pans get burned rings around them, how do you clean them with out scratching them?? Thank you in advance for the info!! 😻❤️
@alternativehomesteadingchannel2 күн бұрын
I don't have a good knife at the moment. I was actually using a pampered chef in the video. I'll share if I find a good one. As for the burns, I use natural scrub brushes. things don't leave burn marks in my clay. They change color over time but I don't have issues with burns staining.

Your kitchen matches your home so nicely! I just picked up my first azure standard order today. Do you buy their wheat berries? Do they store nicely in the bags they provide or should I put them in buckets? Just curious as I want to make sure they don’t get bugs or anything.
@alternativehomesteadingchannel2 күн бұрын
You need to research your area specifically for storing. I can store my wheat berries in open bags and gamma lid buckets but I don't have pests like grain moths here.

@@alternativehomesteadingchannelJust curious, I have lots of food grade buckets with snap lids that have the rubber seal around the inside of the lid. Would you still keep flour, sugar, wheat berries etc., in bags or mylar inside said buckets, or would you open them and pour them in the buckets then tap the lids down. A local grocery store in our area gives them away in the bakery. They are 2 or 5 gallon sizes. They usually had cake icing or pie filling in them. Thank you!
