I have done a similar project in the past but it didn't have any voltage control. I like this version a lot better.

I would say on a scale of 1 to 4, this project is a skill level 2. The main thing is to make absolutely sure everything is wired correctly.

I agree, to avoid pitting of the metal, low current is the way to go. On larger iron relics like horseshoes, the current can be bumped up a bit. Iron pits anyway. Because of the risk of pitting, I do not use this on coins.

I appreciate your interest in Rustolysis. This is a prototype or a proof-of-concept. More safety features will be integrated in the next one. Timers, auto shutoff, short circuit protection, Thermal protection if the components get too hot etc.

Seems my comment got deleted, don’t know why. I’m a big fan of electrolysis and your prototype is very impressive. I have one home built for cannon balls and another purchased one for smaller finds. This looks like a well built unit, I’ll continue to keep a close watch on future modifications. Good luck!

That turned out great Mike! Have you ever tried Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (soda ash) to make your electrolyte? It looks like you set the maximum output voltage to 9 VDC. Does the current draw increase as the electrolysis process progresses?
@Metal-Detecting-NC
@Metal-Detecting-NC Жыл бұрын
Typically the voltage and current proportionally increase. The brine does have some resistance so if I were to move the object closer to the positive anode, the current will increase. I use Arm & Hammer for large iron objects that I would put in a 5 gallon bucket and let it go for several hours. Pickle juice and lemon juice work well too. Anything with a high pH will work.
