If you take the door sill covers off, or in MX-5's without them... the carpet trim, you get access to lots of holes that lead into the sill where you can spray in loads more Waxoyl. I find I get lots of leaves and mud stuck in the front wings behind the wheel arch covers. These are easy to partly unbolt and peel back for cleaning out.

Thanks Jack, that has been a really useful video to watch as we enter our first MX-5 ownership.

spray bilt hamber s50.....from all access holes ...under cill plate ...behind arches.. is a rust convertor and protector better than waxoyl..nice video 👍

Nice tutorial. Was cleaning sill drain holes on my NB mx5 and OMG, it was so stuck :D noticed it when it was raining and car was parked without hard top

Not a bad video but this aerial method is a common way to break the flap halfway down the drain hole that's there to keep the road noise down whilst driving. You need a trombone cleaner and you pass it from top and out of the bottom never pulling it up.

I love that car. I’ve got a 99. Thanks for pointing out all the drain holes...

That nice dark green is typical of a British roadster car (even though it’s Japanese). I remember the Triumph and MG used to be seen often in that color.

Great locating the drain holes. Wear eye protection when you are under the car or spraying!

I just got an 01 miata n Ima follow the steps you mentioned! I got questions though, that “waxoil” spray, is it just a film to block rust or should something be used that converts existing rush and protect? Also what is that thing you used to clear the drain holes from above? Thank you!

U got to.do a LOT more to sort mk2 rust probs out!!! U gotta take sill.plates off..seatbelt towers off..inner front wings..inner rear wings ..ans the main prob area..the rear inner sills! And then u have the subframe prob....
@golders996 жыл бұрын
I think your meant to clean from the top down. So don't poke anything up the hole from the bottom, otherwise you might damage the flap at the bottom.
@jackhb75528 жыл бұрын
Did you wedge open the drain holes on the underneath? I think if I put something down the top of the drain holes it's not gonna come out the bottom. Other than that just waxoyl up every drain hole basically?
@jacksimms93618 жыл бұрын
No I didn't, they should be open to allow water to drain through. And yeah just get a good covering

Did you install those extra side marker lights?
@jacksimms93616 жыл бұрын
no mate everything is as standard!
@janvictoria1235 жыл бұрын
Those side marker lights actually indicate that it might have been made for the american market. Most (if not all) american cars have these, in Europe its not obligated so thats why fewer cars here have those. I’ve got them on my car and this is what a garage shop once told me about these side markers.

where did you get them ramps
@jacksimms93618 жыл бұрын
THEG12EG the ramps are actually made for motorhomes, and were from a camping shop. I have since brought a low jack from halfords which is a lot easier!

how come you have to rustproof drain holes after cleaning them???
@miked26627 жыл бұрын
If you 're using a metal tool you may chip the surface causing a prime spot for corrosion to begin, this would at least help against that... I kinda like the idea all in all, I'll have to find the U.S. equivalent to that stuff.

Larry Duncan, Don’t forget the UK and Europe have things the US doesn’t...
@Purplehaste3 жыл бұрын
meh need to do this asap. But i think my skirts are in the way
@classic2876 жыл бұрын
By the way, in the US, there aren’t very many 98 Miatas because early in 98 Mazda introduced the “NB”, which is the Second generation Miata MX5. They were different than the 97, so the NB produced in early 98, were already 99s. So yours actually is a 99.

No, it’s a 98. It was first registered on 1st August 1998
