This is, without a doubt, your best restoration ever! I can’t believe you had so little to work with and now it’s a complete, fully functional scale… and absolutely beautiful to top it off! Radek… you are truly amazing!
@davesmith56563 жыл бұрын
It's also amazing how much care went into things of that era. Today, a kitchen scale is a flat piece of metal, no frills, no decorations, just a digital read-out.
@vickiefowler14293 жыл бұрын
@@davesmith5656 … truly! Nothing has any artistry or glamour - and hasn’t for a very long time. In fact, the only thing I can honestly say that has maintained a sense of style blended with functionality are automobiles! All era’s except the 80s and 90s - most of those cars were crap! A few exceptions. And the more modern ones are starting to embrace curvy bodies again! Sexy and elegant! But, we’ll never see another period like Victorian Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau or Art Deco. This Nouveau kitchen scale is fabulous!
@davesmith56563 жыл бұрын
@@vickiefowler1429 ---- The Ford Thunderbird 1957 "porthole" coupe, the 1956 Cadillac convertible, the Buick Riviera, Cutlass convertible, the 442, GTO, Corvette, and more expensive imports, but yes, today's cars outmatch them all for functionality and luxury, and some are pretty classy looking, too. But how can an SUV compete with a two-tone station wagon and kids rolling around in the back? I think the big decline in the kitchen started with the ubiquitous electric blender, and "The Graduate" --- "One word. 'Plastics' ". If you go northeast small towns, you see houses. If you go suburbs, you see 2x4 wallboard cookie-cutter developments. Had a friend I haven't talked to in decades who bought a place build in the late 1700's. About two dozen apples trees line the curved gravel drive. Big elevated front porch, two story square house. The stone walls are almost two feet thick, real half-inch oak flooring, window panes visibly thicker at the bottom than at the top, with tiny bubbles in them, and the beams are one foot square American Walnut (hard as rock) with dowel pegs. Stopped at a restaurant in a Texas small town - it looked like a house, with just a small sign outside. Pot-bellied stove in a corner. Oak floors. A sign in every booth read "Watch out for splinters! Don't slide! We're not kidding." Three eggs, grits, five slices of smoked bacon, two FAT biscuits, coffee, served with a big smile and a "hUny". And the guys lazing at the big round table (boots, jeans, hats, gloves, long legs carefully allocated their space under the table even though it was big), were spinning yarns about riding out on the ... [some place pretty dry, miles out amongst the cactus] ... and "realizing I'd forgotten to fill the canteen ...". I was just passing through, so I left a twenty dollar tip and disappeared. The town is something like Brigadoon, to me, that old Scottish legend about a town that appears for one day only, once every hundred years. But today we have the internet and virtual friends, and cell phones, oh, and info-screens in case we should become lost.
@vickiefowler14293 жыл бұрын
@@davesmith5656 I live in Texas! Do you remember the name of the town? Oh, and back to cars… any Packard and the Chevelle SS!
@davesmith56563 жыл бұрын
@@vickiefowler1429 ---- I almost hate to give it away, but it's an exit off I-10, and I'm pretty sure it was before Houston. It was morning, so it may be fairly close, an hour or so, to San Antonio. I internet searched for the name "Burreah" or "Beurreah" (not entirely sure of the spelling), before making another trip to Texas, but the search came up empty. The name on the I-10 exit was something like that, because - no offense - I thought "Wow, they should change their name!" They may have done that, or may have been incorporated into another jurisdiction, or whatever. I thought it would be right off the exit, but I had to drive at least four or five miles ... and I'd forgotten to fill up, so I was running low on gas, way out in the middle of Texas, no cell phone, and no water in the car, with the sun getting higher (joking). Texas is one BIG state to drive through! The town had one main street, that I saw, beautiful, with trees and a stream running right alongside it, for at least a mile, several small bridges about 50 yards each spanning it at intervals. I also had my very first mesquite smoked beef burger, with pickles, at some truck stop the day before, and I have no idea where, just a dozen eateries, a half dozen gas stations, and houses. Somehow I vividly remember the smile on the lady's face as she handed it to me, as if she knew. I may yet spend a few hours on Google Earth looking for towns off I-10 .... If anything rings a bell with you from what I've said, please let me know! And yes, Packards, the Chevelle SS, and of course the Boss Mustang!
