Petrol 1/5th Scale RC Cars WHAT'S INVOLVED?

Ive found after being in the 1/5 scale hobby for 10 years plus is that the high dollar parts can cost as much as parts for a full sized vehicle. It also helps to not be a brand snob when it comes to buying upgrade parts. Engines are another story, Zenoah are tops, Chung Yang are one level below and then you have the Chinese knock offs. It depends on how much you want to spend. At the end of the day, its your car and it is supposed to make you happy.

My HPI Baja 5SC starts first time. The rovan Baja buggy take a few extra pulls to start but I did buy it second hand. New gaskets improved it. Love the sound and Smell. Only downside is the places to run them is slowly disappearing. I've got Petrol/Nitro and Battery. Getting the Nitro or Petrol will help Kids learn about engines etc.

I've had one runaway when I first started out, buggie must have travelled half a mile before I caught up with it, upside down in a ditch, lesson learned :)

The dynamite kill switch made specifically for 1/5 petrol they have a remote kill switch and a kill switch for radio loss or battery loss plus I have the remotes failsafe set to go full brake. Also having a ignition kill switch can save your engine in the case the throttle gets stuck wide open it will save your engine 👍

the remote kill switch runs a live circuit through the coil so the second that's interrupted the circuit is broken & kills the engine you can do this by either loss of battery power to car,loss of range of car,pushing the 3rd channel switch on the remote ,the only similarity with the red button on the engine & a remote 3rd channel one is they both are connected to the coil but only 1 will GURANTEE stopping a run away.

I love my FG Marder 30th anniversary (I have no 150/300, it comes with some options such an as aluminium engine mount, aluminium shocks, etc) 😀👍⛽️ It is crazy to think they have been selling it for more than 30 years, without really modifying it 👍👍. I have added some more options on mine such as the FG tuning exhaust, tuning clutch, aluminium diff and also an hydraulic rear break system plus of course a remote kill switch (I have several videos about it on my channel if you want to have a look Haggar 😀).

I had a runaway with my hpi baja 5b a while ago,crossed a main road and it went through a shop front window was absolutely terrifying, nobody hurt thankfully, after that i installed a ignition spark kill switch which cut off power to the spark plug when signal was lost, best thing i ever did 😮😮

I thought about a full scrap build and use a 52 cc chainsaw engine to build a full RC! Full on sand dune buggy! Engineering is the key to make your own design. Currently built a 1/10 scale crawler electric not fuel driven from scratch using brackline tubing. So next I had to build a trailer with articulation duel tires out of aluminum stock! Love building man! 👊🏼✌🏼dude!

I had one for a few months. Got rid of it because I found it too loud for the areas I run my cars in. Also because they are much heavier I was concerned about damaging something or someone in the event there was contact.

I installed a remote kill switch on mine after experiencing a VERY scary run away 😱🫣! It kills the engine if i press the button on the radio, I loose range, switch off the radio or if the battery in the car gets disconnected (this is what happened to me when my Marder ran away).

What's involved? In the UK a place big enough to use it, with no locals for annoying noise to offend. When you do find somewhere isolated to use it, you will most likely get mugged for it

Never had a petrol car or even had a go with one. I'm getting tempted now, like the FG Marder, almost what the Mardave marauder should have been. I'll have to have a think about it 😊

The Marder is the original Petrol RC car, the others simply followed along… you can buy them brand new still or there are loads about for sale too!

A Baja 5b wether it be a Rovan, King Motor or an HPI all depend on which you can find and want to spend the money on. A $600 buggy will do a lot of the same things a $1,500 buggy will do. There are a few upgrades that any model can benefit from but beyond that it's up to the user to decide. Invest in good radio gear, Futaba makes the best in my opinion, and always always make sure your batteries are charged before every run. Have had a couple run aways and they were all because my receiver battery got low and the throttle servo decided it liked wide open as its place to operate. Haggard is spot on with this video, and presents a lot of useful advice.

started with two cheap electrics, the got into nitro, hpi firestorm, mt2, savage 25 and truggy 3.5, and a kyosho usa off ebay and finally picked up a rovan baja for 250 off facebook. you can get a bargain if your willing to look had a few issues with the pull start as they can be temperamental. in the process of upgrading a few bits installed front disc brakes which are awesome. bigger engine next year

when my losi 5ive went his own way at full throttle and crashed 100m further, i putted killswitches in all my +20 petrol cars, it saves you a lot of money and heartaches i also have a lot of nitro and electric cars. I'm an rc carsnob😬

if you go to any organised 1/5 scale meet up they will not let you run without a 3rd channel kill switch.

Have you had problems with the FG router? I had a duratrax looked the same it was garbage from the start. It was how they designed the spur gear to engage the pinging gear

Just building my nitro collection, was making brake pads last night from gasket material (we'll see how that works) for my recently purchased Nanda Swift. Nearly there. Got an absolute bargain 1/5 on eBay, unfortunately too cheap, I don't think the seller is gonna respond! Keep plugging the vids, no mention of fuel oil mix or is that a noob question. Lol. I'm a nitro snob, cos I can't afford a petrol rc car, I got a. 30 1/5 th scale Thunder Tiger nitro car off flea bay for £125.00 it may be pretty old but it goes like stink and parts are still around for it. Just adapted a larger fuel tank as run time on the standard tank wasn't long enough, had to drill the chassis because of the bump on the, bottom of the bigger tank being on the other side of the tank. That's the thing with a bigger chassis they will quite easily accomodate a bigger nitro tank, longer run times and more fun. I've got one car with a failsafe that locks the steering to the left so the car goes around in a circle, the failsafe won't work with the throttle /brake servo.

I love petrol baja buggies, but I would love to see a monster nitro engine in 1/5 buggies or car.

I have a good selection of RC vehicles. Mainly a mixture of nitro and petrol. I'm not interested in electric. I use the petrol ones all year round, and the nitro are used heavily in the summer. All run fail safes, and the FG marder and Baja having kill switches. I would suggest to people that want to stay loyal to nitro but want something bigger. Find yourself a Thunder Tiger MTA4 S50. They are mental.

They are no where near the same as a chainsaw engine !!!! They are ported differently rovan/zenoah etc are ported for far higher revs mate !!!!

Nitro fuel in getting expensive thats why I changed to petrol rc

Yep its true nitrous are not for kids and petrol are not for adults but it is kinda true petrol cars are big expensive and dangerous dont give one to your kid n let him go out to play with tt 😂 5th scale need an adult to at least supervise
