I just bought another brand new vintage Novarossi Mugen Seiki MT12 off Ebay while rebuilding my first MT12 from around 2001. I have to say their compression is mad. I broke mine in with 8 tanks then never changed the needles after break in. Back then I didnt know how to tune unlike today. Still that motor was extremely powerful and ran great without ever tuning the carb. Btw their slide carb is as good as an OS.

Lookn’ Good Haggard ‼️ - Myself and many others are hoping NOVA will release their 2.11cc (.12) Race engine soon I hope you don’t mind a comment or two. All that may have been needed is to heat up the block to loosen up the piston from the pinch. Since the pinch is new, from time-to-time (engine dependent) you can have a piston seize up during break-in. Pre heating new engines becomes important. A little bit of after run helps too (in between heat cycles) - Flywheel at TDC topic: Though there seems to be a good amount of movement on the flywheel (like you shown), most of that is normal. The piston is in the pinch and what you “see” is the clearance in the rod to the crank journal. To your point on disassembling a new engine. Yep, we all agree that engines should come to us without issues. Unfortunately, all manufacturing has issues and “zero defects” during the process a goal but, not a reality. - The only real way to prove an initial manufacture defect and/or quality issue, is to take it apart and inspect it. - Unfortunately, once you run the engine, there is no way to find small metal burs/scraps, scratches on complements, etc. Plus, there is no real way to prove the failure was from the manufacture once it has been ran. All that being said, we all hope the manufacture steps up and takes care of any issues but, not all are like that. I agree, no one has to or should have to tear it down but, it is a good practice. If nothing is wrong, then you simply put it back together (no big deal). The other benefit of tearing it down, is simply to become familiar with the engine and its components. These engines are fascinating and it would give you a chance to see how it all goes together. 😄 I enjoyed your vid and I hope you don’t mind me commenting on a few points 🩷 Keep up the good work on keeping the Hobby and Nitro alive

I know its probably a much bigger engine and more expensive than a little .18 I had from new but that little .18 locked up after running it for the first time and I couldnt pull the pull start even though I used an engine heater on it for about 10 mins, once it had cooled it started to move but it felt lumpy like the flywheel would turn so far and then the piston would lock again, so I started loosining the plug so I could turn it over with the pullstart for the first few starts and retightening the plug once running and now it seems to be ok. maybe letting the engine just idle without reving it gets it get a bit to warm in the sleeve? Im also concerned that the long hose pipe wasnt letting the engine breathe sufficiently maybe causing back pressure and overheating.

I know you think it was hot enough but as you admit to not knowing for sure what the temp was it seems it just cooled and got stuck in the pinch I’ve had engines do this up to a gallon of fuel run through them I think because the pinch is just so tight so when the engine is at operating temp it is still tight Adding heat to the engine almost always lets the piston free in the sleeve and is much safer than hammering the con rod if heat doesn’t work then there is definitely a bigger problem Thanks for the video it seems it has taken a while for people to make content on these engines they are wicked fast and powerful when running right

Had alot of trouble breaking in my Nova B3 due to the same issue. Even heated up with a heater blanket it got stuck. Had to use a screw driver and push the flywheel to get it loose. I had to rise the idle to keep it from flaming out and it took me roughly 8 tanks to get it fully broken in. Even after that the compression is still mental and it can get stuck if its cold.

hello obviously it's not nice when a new engine tightens or the temperature rises too much and the cylinder expands blocking the piston, this phenomenon is accentuated by the friction of the new components and generates premature wear of the connecting rod bushing which manifests itself in that annoying click when the piston is at TDC, I recommend the mixture for running in, shims on the head of at least 0.4 to lower the compression and monitor the temperature.. ciao bello

You will be surprised how much swarf there is in a brand new unrun engine, not just sport engine manufactureres. Im talking top of the line race engine manufactureres from Italy & Japan, it only takes a tiny piece of swarf going up between the piston & liner to put nasty scores in the piston & liner.
