Another great lesson at the perfect time in/for my journey. I agree with the line in your written description just below the tittle. You write, paraphrasing, intermediate lesson that is useful for beginners. I agree totally, I have a fair understanding of the minor pentatonic with extension and am just starting to learn the major scale in the first position. This idea will be a great start for combining a small section of the major into what I already use in the minor. Again, thank you for sharing your experience knowledge and passion for those of us trying to make music! BEST AND PEACE

Rusty , I think you're using the C root note during all three of the chords in this progression. Is that right? If so, can you land on the root note of the first chord , while playing the 3rd or the 5th chords?
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
Yes, to keep it simple I was focusing on the C root note. But leveling up would be focusing on the root note of each Chord. The next step would be using all of the Chord tones to solo. However, you can easily improvise with the simple boxes! Thanks Harold 👍
@harolddavis4138
@harolddavis4138 Жыл бұрын
@@rustysguitar1 That information is golden. Thank you so much. I've been digesting this lesson for several practice sessions and finally getting a groove going, then I could feel the other chord roots when needed. I was starting to wonder if I wasn't simply converting to a 3 chord blues progression and forcing it to work. What I think I'm hearing is this was a natural progression one should expect when playing the simplified boxes you shown us. Wow

Hey Rusty, I'm a bit stuck, i've been noodling the minor pentatonic for years (including blue notes) , can't seem to make a commitment that lasts when trying to move forward, e.g. looking at major scale, triads, caged etc. Where would you point me to focus on next from your body of work?
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
Hey Paul, if you can get good at visualizing, triads around the fretboard, that will help you progress hugely! Adding that to your playing, will help you level up quickly. Also, you are adding elements of the caged system, and the major scale as you use triads. Keep rockin, Paul and enjoy your weekend. 🤛

Rusty- how are you getting that tone from that Strat? I play Tele most of the time but man I love your tone. Can you help me out?

I’m using the Revv G20 amp set clean and driving it with the Revv Tilt overdrive pedal. Also some reverb from the Strymon BigSky. I use this set up live also. Thanks for checking out the video, James! Later👌

When you slide into C minor..your in the A root C minor pentatonic territory. Correct?
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
So the C minor box is two frets down from the C root note and the C Major box 2, frets up from the C root note in the 5th fret of the G string. Also, the major box is in the A minor pentatonic also. The same notes. Thanks a lot for checking on my video. Catch you later Tommy.👍

Which model strat is that Rusty
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
It’s actually a 50th anniversary strat. So 2004. It was worn so I stripped it down. And as I was sanding, all these different wood colors started coming out. So I just left it rough like that. Feels like an old friend in my hand though!!! Thanks so much for checking out the video, Stephen! Talk to you soon.👍
