Rusty, is there any reason why you finger that open E chord the way you do?
@rustysguitar1

I use that fingering on the open E chord so I can easily slide my third finger up to other notes. It helps me easily play notes around the E chord. Thanks for checking out the video Michael and have a great weekend.😄

Started playing guitar 6 years ago, and mostly chordal structure since my hands are tore up and started guitar late in life, after playing mostly percussion and harmonica and while I thought I would never be able to play "lead" guitar, this video has opened my ADD brain up and changed the entire view of the fret board and how the notes fit together. This lesson is a pivotal point in my playing and learning to be able to not only play some slick phasing and leads but also opened up a whole new realm to continue to learn and apply to my guitar playing journey. In this lesson , I have learned more in this one lesson than I have with numerous instructors/teachers in last 5-6 years in my journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for passing your knowledge on to others in way us older people (an ones with ADHD/ADD) can understand and catch on faster to make stuff really happen with the guitar . You are an amazing teacher. Glad I found you. Appreciate all you do..Please keep up the great lesson. It means so much. Sincerely- RBG

Rusty, interested to know a little background history of you as a guitar player. You and I are no spring chickens , which makes me wonder how long you have been playing and teaching guitar. Your lessons are superb and geared for all ages especially us old folks who have monkeyed around with guitars for decades. I have known the pentatonic shapes for years but your way of uniting them is masterful. I am somewhat older than you (81 years) and recognize a great teacher when I see one. All the best.

I’ll give you the quick tour. I was 14 when I started playing. I really got into the classic rock songs of the 70s. Power chords and the pentatonic scale for the most part. Played with a few local bands in the late 70s early 80s. Then really lost interest. But in 1995 I got saved and was asked to play in Church. And that reignited my guitar journey. The older I get the more I enjoy it. I still play every day. It sounds like you really love playing also. I’m glad you like the channel! Let’s keep rocking my friend. Thanks John.👍

Thanks for the lesson :) good stuff. Could you please tell me what you did at 10:37 tho? immediately after you hit the A triad, you then do the double stop, and right after the last hammer on you slide up 1/2 step (D string from 11 to 12th fret) then slide down a few step to then come back to the E chord. anyway, what I’m seeing isn’t matching what I’m hearing and I can’t make out where your fingers are. It’s frustrating me so bad lol 😂 I been replaying it for hours. Anyway, thanks :))
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
Hey Johnny, sorry I didn’t talk about that little move. What makes this work is the open A and E strings. The first part of this is over an A chord. Start with a hammer on from 9 to 11 on the D string. Then sliding up to 12. And then back down to 11 9 7 on the D string, making sure that A string is still ringing. Then right before it goes to the E chord, hammer on from 9 to 11 of the D string, and then 9 to 11 on the A string. Then hit the open E string because it’s on the E chord. I’m basically thinking about that A major scale during that whole move. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching my videos and I will try to explain these moves better in the future! Later Johnny 👍

I've actually been psyched to get stuff out of the way every morning to clear my head/obligations tackle a new (or previous) lesson and improve on guitar, Rusty! This has just been to boost I've needed! One lesson I've always considered as a potential standout (but tough to put together I'm sure) is one that just tackles a bunch of great soloing ideas in one lesson for all keys. In other words, to help us not get locked up with 'man!! Now I wish I'd considered those double stops or pedal note, octaves, pre-bend, chord hits......etc.......enough ideas to drill into my player's head that I wouldn't be so worried about clamming up! Your lessons do this of course but here I mean an all-in-one lesson we can refer back to and have at the ready when needed. Some other instructors and sites have agreed this is a great concept but just too generalist and open to interpretation. However, I can definitely tell that the totality of your great lessons do achieve this! Jim C.
