Was 3-4 years ahead of Ruth and Rob at the same school. So missed them in school productions. But they reminded me of Les Edwards, one of the teachers, a real character. Teachers 40 years ago had a freer rein to entertain pupils, so were far more full of character than the shackled teachers today.

I was in Ruth's year in Nottage and P. Comp and knew her very well. I never had Les as an English teacher (Mr Henson was one I recall) but years later he (Les) was my dad's campaign manager when he stood in a general election for the Monster Raving Loony Party. A well loved character indeed.

Yay, Ruth Jones!! 😀 Laughed so hard at Gwyn Pitt - but in her defence (from someone who has a fairly uncommon name) she's probably spent more time in her life talking to strangers about her name than she has talking about her work. It gets hard to muster any sort of enthusiasm on the topic, which probably made her come across as more dismissive than she wanted to be.

I can understand the cast not excited about doing another G&S living and enjoying the moment and all but it’s very rare these days for people to be so fixated and in love with certain programmes on tv like they are towards G&S I would say to the cast soak it up enjoy the fact that people like me absolutely love the show watched them all numerous times and will do in the future
@angeloddrev2 ай бұрын
Right, I live in the town and everyone's so excited. Had a workman arrive here from an hour away and he was so thrilled to be in the town while they're filming. It's sad they don't understand the sheer joy and excitement so many are feeling. It's one of those rare shows that just brings cosy vibes, warmth, loving family and friends, and we're grown up with the show. It's really old now. I don't know anything I'm still loving from that long ago that still exists. Even the island looks different in some parts to the first series it's been so long! There was sadness and disappointment when we were told the last episode was the end. It was such a cliff hanger, but we came to accept we'd never know. And we all knew it was because James was so busy in America. We're bound to be excited that we finally get to find out what happens! Everyone I speak to can't wait! Nothing happens here that much, and the positive affect it has on the town is unmistakeable. I hope Ruth realizes what a positive influence it's had here, and how glad we are she chose Barry. I get why so many are so happy. It's #1 watched for a reason, it has a lot of fans.
@b4ckdoorb4nga402 ай бұрын
@@angeloddrev very well said, I can’t agree more, it definitely is a warm cosy vibe watching the show I think that’s why it was as successful as it was at least for me anyway, it put Barry on the map as I sure never heard of it prior to the show and I will definitely visit one day

There's a fairly well known story where Rob gave James a dressing down for allowing his ego to get too big during the height of Gavin and Stacey. That would've been around 15 years ago, so it sounds like he's perhaps always let fame go to his head a bit too much
