As Naomi Campbell announces her baby news, Ruth, Kelle, Janet and Coleen open up about becoming a mother in your 50s and whether they would be happy to have a child later on in life. Ruth shares her worries about being an older mum as she had her son Jack at 42 and Kelle reveals how she wouldn't have been ready to have a child in her 20s or 30s.

I can completely understand what Ruth is saying. My mum and dad are older parents. I’m 23 and my parents are mid 60s. I do worry about certain things in my life that they won’t be there for.

My sister had her son when she was 36. Then she had twins at 47 and they are 18 now. Their dad is in his 70’s but he’s around. They are all doing well.

I had my only son at 43. In an ideal world, I would have loved to have had him earlier, and had more children, but it was not to be.

I had my little boy when I was 18 I’m now 23 and he’s gonna be six this year. I worry about not having another until I’m 30. I don’t wanna leave a huge age gap but financially we aren’t in a position to have another. We want to buy a house before we even consider it

My daughter had her first baby at 40 and she tires out much more easily than I did at 28. I do think your energy levels are an issue for older moms.

Nothing in life is guaranteed. If Naomi lives to see her child reach 18 that puts her at 68. No guarantees in her line of work that she will still be required or relevant. So hopefully she is financially able to afford the upkeep of the child as there is no sign of a father unless he gets added to the the list of things to be acquired. My husband was 18 when his father died aged 67 and 24 when his mother passed away. Nothing in life comes with guarantees.

I had my son a year ago, at 31. And honestly, I wish I’d done it 4/5 years younger. Especially because I want to have another one ... it’s not my ability to bring energy to parenthood, it’s the things you can’t prevent. Ageing grandparents and so on.

31 is a decent age to have your first child though, isn't it? I feel like that's the age everyone around me is having one.

Kelly's ideas are very much about her individual experience. I am in my 20s,had a baby last year and I felt like it was the right time. I generally make good decisions and have a balanced lifestyle.

I am 50 and decided in my 20's I did not want any children. My family and friends wanted to know and still wants to know, I am a lesbian. If you do not have children or a man in your life, you are automatically labeled as a lesbian.

Please. Nothing can prepare you to lose a parent no matter how old you are. The brain changes. Better an older parent who is likely to have more patience, resources, stability and common sense than a young one who is emotionally immature and haphazard. I appreciated older parents who were more interested in being my parent and protector than my BFF, which was the dynamic I saw in my friends’ homes - it’s cute when everything is going fine, but when it’s not the child doesn’t respect the parent like they should because they’ve become accustomed to a peer dynamic. Nothing says “my parent is not my peer” like their archaic pop culture references and sentences beginning with “back in my day”

This is will be her only child and this child will have all the love, time and attention from her mother which is so important. A child just needs love and to be kept safe and i believe this child will be cherished.

I wouldn't want a baby at any age! I'm intentionally and happily childless. I prefer to spend my time and money caring for unwanted, abused or neglected pets. They already need help. Why would I want to create another sentient being to need help?!
