Hi Ruth. My wife and I love Mull. We used to go once, sometimes twice a year. It's one of our favourite places along with the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Sadly, my wife passed away in October, having a severe stroke. In the Spring I plan to spread her ashes on Mull as she loved it so much. I'm hoping to visit Callum and Roxy on the Ardnamurchan peninsula this year too. Thanks for the great videos. Best wishes for a great 2025. John.

We rented a gamekeepers cottage and it was the highlight of the entire trip! It poured rain for most of the time and I absolutely loved it anyway! Hi Ruth: You asked the question could you stay in an Island cottage? I live in a remote part of Canada, on a pristine lake in a 50 year old totally wooden cottage. All the modern conveniences. Huge wood burning fireplace and surrounded by forest. So I know what a great time you had. You sure know how to live. The food you made for yourself had my mouth watering. Except for the pizza. LOL. Your cooking and eating of the muscles was a joy to watch. Such a beautiful place for you to visit. I wish you a belated Happy Birthday and of course a healthy and prosperous New Year! Be safe.

I find that waking up to hear the wind and the waves crashing on shore is so much more exciting than a calm sunny day. As I'm now of the age where my bladder wakes me up very early, I like to put my action cam outside pointing towards the east and get a time lapse of the sunrise before getting back into bed. Once again, a good wind and a few clouds make for a better film than clear blue skies.

***I live in a farmhouse that was built in 1836. Well some of the farmhouse. It was originally only one large room to start and was added onto over the years. I’ve grown up with a wood stove and still use mine. However I’ve never seen a drying rack with a pulley system here in the United States. It’s a clever idea thou. During winter when I wash clothes (sweaters) that can’t go in the dryer, I have a wooden drying rack that I stand in the living room close by the wood stove to help dry them quicker. We have a furnace as well that runs on fuel oil. We don’t care to use it if we don’t have to cause the cost of fuel oil is so expensive. Plus with an old house the wood stove puts out so much heat that it heats this house better than the furnace. We have 20 plus acres with all the wood we need for our wood stove so it doesn’t cost us like ordering fuel oil. There’s something so cozy thou when running our wood stove. I wouldn’t change it for anything. Thank you for all your videos. They are muchly appreciated.***

It is my tradition to do a cottage stay in Jan/Feb when it's too cold and icy for the caravan. All of my cottage stays have been wonderful. Although I do tend to avoid the islands in the winter, as the ferries can be unreliable with storms - as you know. Mull is great - a fantastic combination of pretty lowland, dramatic mountains and rugged coastline. Tobermory is so colourful. Iona and Staffa are must visits, and dolphin watching trips too. I manage the course web-pages for Biology School in the University of Edinburgh. All of the decorative images on these sites are Staffa puffins and Mull dolphins. Congrats on seeing an otter. Ardnamurchan is a one of a kind, not only is the route to it stunning, but you can drive through the plumbing of a volcano, black rock rings surrounding brilliant green marshes. You can travel through them to the silver sands of Sanna beach. It is a long route, take a couple of days, I did it on one day and I've never felt so car sick - and I was driving
@tonysutton65592 күн бұрын
Over the last several years we've started a tradition of going to Scotland as a family for the February half term and staying in a cottage. Like you, we avoid the Islands because of the ferries but that then gives us something to look forward to in the spring/early summer. It's great to spend a whole week with our grandson but we end up paying more as its half term. We always thought that we could have cheaper family holidays as our daughters got older and we would not be tied to school holidays but they both became teachers.

I remember my mother putting the clothes on a long clothes line with a pulley so she could run them out as far as 50’. This was 1955,I really don’t remember if we had a dryer for clothes, just the washing machine with an electric roller on top to squeeze the water out of the clothes.

Hi Ruth SMART objectives, well done ! I also do something in that line. There is another benefit is you are able to say “NO” to things that will not help you achieve the objectives. The saying NO is the really difficult bit when you appear to be unhelpful. The mussels are interesting because they are live you can make them believe that the tide is going in and out hence, they will open and close. It is also possible to suffocate or drown them. Don’t get too attached to playing games with mussels because you will have to eat your friends ! We spent a week on Mull but hardly scratched the surface.

It’s so funny Ruth that I divorced your channel because of the Amsterdam title and the way you responded was so nice that I stayed. Now I am following you 2 or 3 weeks, maybe more, reacted many times, and watched many videos and I love them. Looking forward to watch this new one one one of my now favourite channels. And about the Amsterdam thing, you are the first English speaker that I heard pronouncing Gouda (the cheese) the right way. So you made it up big time. :))

Oh yes, slowly and gradually it is really turning into a cooking channel. But it is allright, it was very funny again. Especially the rizling part. 😂😂😂

The screaming of the wind adds in an extra level of cozy to the inside of the cottage.

If you get stuck again on your own , try and take your car mats out and put them under your wheels . Worth a try sometimes works .

Love watching from America!! Old, disabled and poor.. so I love living vicariously through you and several other adventurers!! I will say that when you read the directions for the cheese, it did say put on a baking sheet :)

As a child I regularly played on the small sandy beach close to the cottage with the boys that lived in the big house by the pier. Great memories!

I love otters! I'm so happy you shared your otter with us :) Those mussels looked really good and also great value for what you get, as well as fresh!

I was a bit concerned when you went out in the storm with that big coat on, had visions of you being scooped up by the wind and ending up back in Oban! Brilliant video again, you’re content is a joy to watch.

I've not heard of a dry rack inside the house by the fire... in the states. What an adorable cottage.Thanks for your travels and allowing me to see what it's like in Scottland.
