Ruthin Town Walk, Denbighshire, North Wales.

‪@walkingwithbill‬ walks around the historic town of Ruthin in North Wales, it was established as a town with the building of the castle in 1277 by Dafydd who was the brother of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd (Llywelyn the last). It then came into the hands of the marcher lord, Reginald de Grey and his family ran the area for the next 220 years, the original Welsh name for the castle was Castell Coch yng Ngwern-fôr (Red Castle in the Sea Swamps). The Welsh always have better more descriptive names for places. The Gaol museum was closed when I visited but is open to visitors, there are many historic plaques around the town and some can be seen on the video.
Ruthin gaol is the only purpose-built Pentonville style prison open to the public as a heritage attraction. See link below.
