The Equip Spell not working is because Rhyme still controls the equip spell and it says "monsters your opponent control" so therefore it had to be on your side of the field to have the effect active. Think of cards like Santa Claws.

The effect of Flamberg didn't apply because It says only the opponent's monster are negated, but since the equip card is on Rhyme field, the opponent's effect monster that wll be negated are only the ruxin's monster.
