The reason you don’t see much of a change in the meter readings is because decibels is a logarithmic scale rather than linear. That means a double in the decibels does not equate to a double in loudness - it is way more. For example, a 60 decibels sound is 10 times louder than one at 50 decibels, and 100 times louder than a sound at 40 decibels.

I really appreciate it! This is a very important point because it really did change a lot, just not that I could show in numbers. Thanks!

I did this mod and noticed it was a lot quieter. I didn't test the decibel level, but there is a noticeable difference in the volume. It's not silent, but now we can sleep with the AC on, without ear plugs, and keep the volume of the TV lower. Only took about an hour of my time and very inexpensive materials.

Of course! This is one of the most common complaints regarding AC units (other than cooling!) So its nice to have a fix for it.

@@Dr1Salman yes I do for the amount of work and the price of materials. It’s truly worth it.

we have a very similar ac unit. i was wondering if there was any way to divert the air into more than 2 directions. in ours the vents direct to opposite ends of the rv and none to the sides which is where one of our slide outs is (kitchen table). in the middle of summer this area gets really hot. i tried putting cardboard from vent taped to ceiling to help divert air to table area but it was a flop.

Sadly there isn't a solution or product on the market that I know of that can be of assistance. I could get extra fans to cool the trailer down as much as possible. Unfortunately, these RV AC units can only cool down the camper 20 degrees lower than the outside temperature.

A little late to reply, but check out this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWa3m3mnd6uXn8U This guy cut a steerable vent into his Coleman Mach. When we insulated ours we noticed most of the sound came from the flexible cold air tube blowing out. I think the reason why this guy's unit ended up being loud with the vent, is that the vent lines up with that cold air duct. If he'd put the vent where the manual controls are instead, I think the insulation would have absorbed a lot more of that noise.
