RV Door Stuck Shut! SOLVED!!!

The door of my RV was stuck completely shut, a key was broken off in the lock, and the internal latch system broke. So how do you open the door when the internal mechanism is broken and you can’t pull the latch back to get the door open so that you can take off the door lock assembly? Well I figured out “A” solution if you have a couple basic tools.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! We were locked out of our RV while boondocking at Cracker Barrel. My husband had to climb in from an unlocked window and take apart the lock system and still couldn’t get it open!!! Just before he was to take a hammer and smash the whole thing to smitherings, I came across your video about the second plate and he was able to get it open. Hallelujah! Thank you brother!!!

After many many videos viewed, your video hit the issue I had. Thank you for posting it! Once I pulled the spring out, drilled a divet on the latch "arm", if was able to move it back further, with a pin, and my motorhome door opened freely.

Awesome, glad that worked for you. I looked all over KZbin for an answer to this and found nothing. After I figured this out and realizing that this design flaw is likely pervasive, I had to imagine that other people would be in the same boat so I decided to record this to save other people the headache. It's insane that the manufacturer doesn't have a solution for this that I'm aware of.

Yup. Same issue...drilled the heck out of the inside...but then woke up and found your video...your info led to drilling a hole at the latch level and just used small screwdriv😊er to pull latch back a bit, then pulled left with needle nose plyers...bingo: door opened. THANKS!

Thanks to your video i was able to fix the exact issue on my RV. I didnt know about that second plate either so i was stumped. I was able to flatten an old wire coathanger to be thin enough to fit between the two plates that the thing gets stuck on and i managed to push it past the second plate while the door was still closed. Couldnt have done it without seeing your vid though. Thanks.

The good news is that nobody is going to break into your RV through the door. It's almost freaking impossible.

I have an enclosed trailer and the side door is stuck Who installs new locks?

Maybe a locksmith? But if you need to install a whole new handle, it's actually very easy.
