Over the last few weeks i took out a section of block wall and built an RV Gate.

Hello from another Arizonan... I was going to build a second one and my HOA stated only one RV gate per home..($%^&*(hoa) So, now I'm about to build two new gates in the backyard... I used the man made boards and they work great! no painting or treatments needed. Great job! & what a GREAT helper you had... lol

Well done! I was stoked when you said you were from Arizona. I was like omg that's where I am moving to in March! Reason why I watched your video is because the house i am buying has a RV gate that has a bottom hinge that detached on one side. I've worked with reattaching hinges on wood but never on cinder block. Just trying to figure out how old be doing this. But yeah man that gate looks sweet.

It really depends on how the block was built, if there's good concrete inside simply drill a new anchor, if it's just block I've used tapcon concrete screws. If you need help go over to my channel page and there's an email address, feel free to shoot me an email and I'd be happy to do my best to help.

I welded a piece of round tube (3/4") to the bottom of one gate then cut a piece of rebar I salvaged from the section of wall I took out, and slid it through the tube, then drilled a hole into the concrete foundation from the original block wall so now one gate has a pin that slides into a hole in the ground ro hold it closed, then I welded a standard gate latch to the tops if the gates so the other gate locks to the pinned gate.

@Amanda Thanks so much for watching, I'm giving away $100 to a subscriber so please consider subscribing, I bought the hinges from Hardware source, here's the link to what I bought: www.hardwaresource.com/two-piece-welding-hinge.html They are weld in, but they have a ton of hinges of all shapes and sizes. Worth checking out for sure. I think with shipping 4 hinges was around $20.

Bro question, I still holes to my blocks for the gate and the screws (Or whatever they're called) are lose to the stucco (Block) so my gate is a bit lose, how can I tighten them up or is there some type of glue for the bolts to get tight in the block holes? Door is a bit lose, works well but bothers me. 🙃😲
@RogueWrenching
@RogueWrenching 2 жыл бұрын
I would try a concrete epoxy, home depot or Amazon are probably your best sources. That's if it's a bolt style anchor like I used here, if it's a screw there's not much you can do but I've seen success jamming some copper wire in the hole then running the screw next to it, never tried it on a concrete hole but it might work.

I apologize for the damn grammar *loose lol..Okay yes, I used or should I say my father and I used the bolt styles you did, not screws. I'll go ahead and get that epoxy, it's been recommended from some of my co workers, thanks for getting back to me quickly!!!

hey great job keep up the good work. what would you recommend for a newbie like me I have a small gate on one side and I have a wall on the other side of my house I would like to put an RV gate. I would like to use the current front gate door and move it over to the other side of the front of my house . The side with the small door I would like to put an RV style and use this small single door on the other side of the wall that doesn't have anything just wall brick. Don't know if you understand what I'm trying to do I hope you do. What type of tools would you recommend me. I do happen to have the basic tools in my house like a hammer drill, skill saw etc... I see you get the job done and do it by yourself keep up the good work and the great videos .
@RogueWrenching
@RogueWrenching 3 жыл бұрын
I think I understand what you're asking, as far as tools I've got a video that in the works (just need to edit it) that shows just the building of the gate in a bit more detail. (Definitely should subscribe to make sure you don't miss that video) but I use a 110 welder that's branded a Cornwell but I believe it's a rebranded Miller. I've just got a new band saw (also have a video coming on that) and a chop saw. Not a ton of tools required but some like the welder and band saw are kinda spendy. Harbor freight is a good option for low cost tools, some items are decent in terms of quality but the big consideration is how often you'll use the tool. For example if you're going to be using a welder ever day it's probably worth spending a bit more money and getting a nice one. If it's for one project get the cheapest one that will work. Check out some other videos on my channel I discuss tools in a few. If you have any other questions I'll do my best to answer them.

Usually you would drill the holes. Put the hinges in the block wall then fill the block with cement. In the video the cements filled and so he drills holes in it but then what? Skipped the process of how the hinge would hold that gate

@@RogueWrenching Good work. I too am doing DIY RV gate with new block column. The question I cannot find an answer to is... How long did you wait for the mortar to cure inside the column before you drill the holes and installed anchors? Thanks!
@RogueWrenching
@RogueWrenching Жыл бұрын
@Douglas Main Most importantly, I filled the column with rebar reinforced concrete, NOT mortar, I waited 7 days. Most industrial applications tell you 28 days, but if memory serves, you're at like 80% strength in 7 days.

@@RogueWrenching I appreciate the quick response. The column I took down held a 44" man gate and that was filled with "mortar", which I believe to just be Portland cement. You used the same stuff that you used for the footer? I too reinforced with rebar
