Thanks Carolyn for another great video! I remember living in Tucson in the foothills back in 1975 when I had my first encounter with a rattlesnake. Sitting outside having a cup of coffee with my feet up. Suddenly saw movement under my legs as a small rattlesnake slithered under and out the other side. Got a good cardio workout that morning without having to do any workout...lol. Stay safe my friend!

Thanks for the battery info. I periodically have rattlesnakes come onto my patio. I get a long pole or stick, and a dog gate or other barrier to put in front of me as a shield in case of a strike, then I tap the snake on the nose with the pole end and basically hassle it until it goes where I want it to. It has always worked.

Hi Carolyn From watching your videos over the years, I know you would never harm another creature just for being in your space, so I do not agree with others who are happy to see the snake killed even by accident. You are just informing your viewers to be careful when out camping. Humans need to respect not dominate. Every creature is just trying to earn a living just like us humans.

Daddy always taught me, keep an old toothbrush and a box of baking soda to clean those terminals. Sprinkle the soda on them, add some water and it will bubble up. Scrub clean with the toothbrush. Dry and apply a coat of vaseline to keep clean longer. Easy fix.

Hello good day I just wanted to say on a personal level he’s last three videos have been some of the best contact that I have seen youve done over the years. All of your content is great but these last few have been excellent I think so many of us out here who are contemplating the nomadic life or even taking off time and just doing what one wants for a period of time like a sabbatical anyways these types of videos are so true to life and really give us a good feel for some of the calamities and things that could happen we have to prepare for I am always surprised by your resourcefulness and I admire how you were able to get yourself out of almost any situation not to mention your love of dogs

Jason, it's so funny, my channel began with problems (my first rig was a nightmare) and it grew like crazy and then I got the new rig and there weren't so many problems and my growth slowed and now that I'm having issues again, my channel is booming. LOL And then I get accused of creating drama LOL I am so glad showing the reality is helpful. I enjoy showing the good, the bad and the ugly... because it's real! Thank you so much for your kind comment letting me know that I'm on the right track with my videos. Sugar coating doesn't do anyone any favors! Take care and thank you for being here.

Hi, Carolyn, I do wiring and cable harnessing for a living, and have done my own electrical maintenance at home and on vehicles for quite a long time. The green, fuzzy-looking deposits on your battery cable ends is corrosion. You can remove it with a brass or steel bristle brush. Unscrew all the terminals, one at a time so they go back where they came from. Brush them until they're nice and shiny, use a little WD-40 or PB Blaster to help clean them. Make sure to brush the bolts and nuts that hold them to the battery terminals, too, as well as the battery terminals. Get it all clean and shiny. Then tighten everything back up. The cables shouldn't move when you wiggle them. Keep an eye on them, every so often check them and make sure they're okay. I'm glad it worked out for you, it can be a big problem if you're out far from town and things go bad. All the best, and congratulations on 120,000 subscribers!

I thought that snake might be a Mojave, because it looked like a pit viper and seemed to have a slight greenish hue. But when it moved it did look like a sidewinder. I thought it looked like you were in Flagstaff. I hope you have time to do some hikes. I would suggest Abineau-Bearjaw, which I think is the prettiest hike in Flagstaff. And the dog would be allowed on that hike.

Finding that snake was scary. When we lived in Texas they used to do snake training for dogs. I am not sure what it entails but it was mandatory for hunting dogs - dogs that were out in the bush. There saw so many snakes down there!
@aspenm5253
@aspenm5253 4 жыл бұрын
I have heard that there is a form of snake training using an electrical shock collar, first with dead or confined snakes, later with live ones., to condition dog away from the snake. The *only* reason I would use a shock collar on a dog. Rattlers and other poisonous snakes scare the sh*t out of me, due to having dogs. Probably my biggest fear connected with traveling and camping in the desert.
@shuvanidev
@shuvanidev 4 жыл бұрын
@@aspenm5253 I don't know how they really did it, but I just heard it was a training method for dogs that hunted or worked on farms and things. My dog never got bitten by a snake but he's seen them and he's a terrier and they are so fearless, they just go after stuff and stick their noses in holes and in rocks and logs and shrubbery. He got into something under a big shrub once and his face swelled up and I had to take him to the emergency vet for treatment, but they didn't think it was a snake bite. Yeah, snakes are no joke down there. One of the things that I thought was so interesting in Carolyn's video was how well camouflaged that snake was - it was hard to see it until it moved....... yeah, that would really worry me.

FYI: If your battery cable terminals are green like yours are all you need to do is to mix 1 table spoon of baking soda and a half cup of water in a shallow bowl and soak then for about a minute. The soda solution will dissolve the green acid quickly. Backing soda will neutralizes acid. An incomplete connection on either battery post can mess with all of your electrical systems.

Just learned my lesson about emergency budgets. My Labradoodle Hamish had to have emergency surgery on the 15th for a blockage in his small intestine. Thank God a friend who loves my dog as much as I do was able to lend me the money $2200 all total. Hamish made it thru surgery turned a year old on the 19th and is now back to his exuberant self. I am definitely starting a savings account for his medical. The blockage was an exam glove, why he would want to swallow an exam glove is beyond me. We’ve been using them in and out of the building for safety.

I enjoy watching your videos so much. I'm dry camping back in Oregon on my way further north and trying to catch up on yours and Bob's videos specifically looking for information about inverters. You didn't mention what the wattage is on your inverter, but did say it's not enough to run a ninja blender (I have a nutra bullet 900 that I'd like to be able to use.) One of Bob's videos touched on inverters too but didn't give the information I need. I'd love you to do a video with more specifics about inverters and how to determine what size you need. I just upgraded my Renogy 200 watt solar system with new 235 amp hour batteries. Before I had a old 60 amp hour battery that was just enough to charge my phone, tablet, and internet device through the night and allowed me to use my notebook computer with a 12v power adapter during the day. I desperately need a 12v refrigerator freezer and now I can run one. I can't afford the big ones but at the 2020 RTR I learned I could get a smaller one and set it up as a freezer then use freezer thingies to keep food in my regular cooler refrigerated. I'll FINALLY order a 16qt one I found on Amazon for $179 when I get my SS check this month. I can only afford one thing a month and next on my agenda is an inverter I hope I can buy in July. I've only been able to use my small appliances when I'm in a campground or parked at a relative's where I can hookup to shore power which isn't often. Besides my nutra-bullet, I have a small toaster oven, a 16 oz. stainless steel pot to heat water, a small crockpot, an ink jet printer, an air purifier, and an induction burner. Most not all of my power tools are lithium battery powered and need to be charged. If possible I'd like to use my sewing machine. I know that is a lot. but they wouldn't be used at the same time. The trickiest item based on what I'm finding online is the induction burner. Some people say they've used theirs with a 2000 watt inverter for years others say either the induction burner or the inverter stop working; other sources say you have to have at least a 3000 watt inverter. The one thing I gleaned from these other sources and from Bob is that it's important to get a pure sine inverter. This of course is more expensive. I'd love to understand the differences in inverters. It would be wonderful if you, Bob and anyone else with solar knowledge could team up and do a Zoom video specific to how to determine what size inverter is needed for certain things, what brands are best, what to look for etc. If I have to wait a couple more months to save enough money to get what I really need it's better than buying something next month that won't give me what I need. I might also need to compromise and realize I won't ever be able to use some appliances with my solar system. Can you do such a video?

Dragonfly, my RV, from the day I bought it, has a Gremlin in the radio. It would just turn on, even if everything was shut off. Sound asleep and the radio would come on. No one could figure it out. I finally put it on a switch to turn it off 😂. I can't wait to see what the problem is! 😁

I hear those snakes are really good eating. Plus you'd have a cool snakeskin to make something with. Sometimes a pack of coyotes will send a single member out to lure domestic dogs back to the pack. Best keep a close eye on Sadie!

Use a can of coke or baking soda on your terminals to clean them. Rinse will and then put Vaseline on them. Works great. Have fun

I love that you share your lessons. It helps those of us about to follow in your footsteps. BTW, I am in love with Sadie. She reminds me so much of my Ruby. Beautiful but ornery. Haha.

That dead rattlesnake could have been a great NO opportunity for Sadie. I am no snake killer, but it's scent was there for a teachable moment. Same with the coyote. Mine can pass within a meter of a squirrel and come back to me instead. Thanks for all the battery info, it's really helpful.

I have been watching your videos for a while scared to death about your cute little dog finding one of those creatures. Thank goodness she and you did not get hurt keep your eyes open and wear good boots. Like cowboys boots made a good tough leather.

It's life, it's true, 3s. I would be hugely stressed out plus all that money! Eeeeeeeek. It's easy to over think things, and still, in calm you know what and how to do! Your PupPup is so chilled. Snake? Oh hell NO! Sadie is putting out "fear" energy. Leave leave leave! This Video was heart thumping.

The green crusties on the battery terminal are a good indication they really need to be cleaned well. On the snake I wonder if a can of hair spray or something (WD-40 maybe) would deter it from coming around. Or just make it mad. If the power inverter you have actually works but just not powerful enough then maybe just install a larger unit where you need the power at. That way you actually have two inverters, so there is a redundancy if one unit does fail, but the second unit would not need all the existing wire replaced. Just new wire run to power the 2nd inverter. The amount of wire and installation issues will depend on the location of the new inverter and the location of your batteries.

Oh Carolyn I'm so sorry. I am a professional with years of experience on vehicle electrical systems. If I could have been there first, we would have figured out right quick what the problem is and saved you the headache and travel for what turned out to be a cheap, minor problem to fix. My goal is to chuck the 8 to 5 and get on the road as I'm sure there will be plenty of people who could use my experience and give me something rewarding to do as I take the easy life way. Oh, and for that beautiful sidewinder, stamping your feet will usually send them running. Hopefully in the right direction.

Oh Lawd! I’m a big scaredy-cat when it comes to snakes!! I’d have to leave that campsite right after I had my hubby kill the thing. LOL!! Ewwwww makes my skin crawl! You’re a lot braver than I! Your Sadie is so smart! Just a beautiful dog! Glad your electrical issue is fixed and didn’t cost big bucks to fix! Take care and happy trails to you!! ❤️❤️
