I think I've watched this vid 5 times at least ! :) there aren't many winter rv vids on KZbin, so this vid always appears in my searches.... Like you say, winter can be fun, you just do what you have to do and carry on ! .....I moved into an rv a week ago...so kinda feeling my way round, but I'll say this....never slept better in my whole life...I love hearing the wind and the rain...I wake briefly, and hearing those sounds is like getting a warm hug, before I drift back into sleep...

I'm sure I watched this video when it came out a year ago. I am looking for ideas on living in your van through the winter. There really aren't many videos... I'm moving to Colorado at the end of the month and I'll be staying in my bus!!! I'm so excited!!! But a little trepidatious on living in her through the snow storms! I do love the snow and was raised up in the mountains of California, around Lake Tahoe. 😉 let the adventure begin! ✌🏼️❤️🚐 Godspeed

I once awoke as if from a childhood dream: snow was OVER THE VEHICLE and I had to tunnel out! It was one of those cold-wind snows, and the icy powder blew up across the vehicle. I was in a -10 sleeping bag, so I just reached one hand out of the bag, clicked the thermostat and turned on the propane heater. When it was around 70-80 I got out of the bag, out of my night clothes and into work clothes. After tunneling out, I went in the building and got some coffee; such a great day!

I want to full time north east of Toronto On Canada but I would also need to use the rv daily. Want to get a class b and sell my house. Do you think it's doable if I get a gym membership for showering and wagbags for emergencies?
@AnnaC635 жыл бұрын
There are other keeping clean strategies. You can get a 5 gallon bucket, a device submersible water pump one end shower head on other. Easier to shower outdoors in a tarp or shower shelter when warm. Inside stand in a plastic storage container. Can heat water mixing cold with stove boiled or there are submersible heaters. Shower pump about 40 dollars. Submersible heaters 20 to 40 dollars. Makes sense to take bird baths daily with wet wipes and clean privates with soap you they sell that you don't need to rinse made for bed ridden patients or make your own very diluted soap in a foaming pump dispenser then DO rinse a bit with a cup of water over whatever you use to go potty in. Also maybe have a good additional foot soak once or twice a week then do full shower deal less often as is comfortable and convenient for you based on water storage and disposal capacity. When I say shower with four to five gallons and less capacity in the container you're in you will be turning water off often and on sparingly. Maybe do hair first, dump wastewater then come back and do body. It all depends on your space and water capacity. Of course gym membership is ideal. I haven't done this full time. Is there a big chain gym people who travel could have reciprocity with ? Many people add occasional truck stop shower use to the mix. I understand most are well stocked, clean with unlimited hot water. Aaaah !

@AnnaC635 жыл бұрын
Was this unplanned ? Do you have heating solutions now in case it happens again ? With insulation and safety precautions you can heat a small space with candles, can and ceramic flower pot or this candle heater/lantern called UCO . It can be modified to substitute liquid fuel as seen in another KZbin video which is cheaper and more efficient. But here is a link to how it works. There are also electric, propane and butane mini heaters. Mr Buddy is one. Just be sure to learn all safety precautions like keep it a distance from flammables, put it inside coffee can, crack window have extinguisher and smoke detector. Good to have for emergencies in cold climates even if you're not camping or living in vehicle. Will look for UCO oil conversion video if you're interested or just search UCO oil burning and it might pop up.

Did you have to do anything to your RV to make sure your water tanks and pipes don't burst in the freezing weather?
@WanderDano8 жыл бұрын
Yes it was winterized. All that I do is use an air compressor to blow out all the lines and then just put RV Antifreeze in the traps to be safe. It is not too difficult on a smaller class B. In my opinion, no need to fill all the lines with antifreeze like in a larger RV.
@VoytekR19 жыл бұрын

I carry drinking water in a 5 gal jug all the time... I dont like drinking camp water and not out of the onboard tank. In the winter I used the drinking water and heated it in the coffee pot for dishes. washed them in a bucket then dumped it out. I didn't use my RV toilet but many people just keep antifreeze in the toilet during the winter. hope that makes sense.

There are lots of KZbin how to videos. I will put links below in a minute. Insulation is key if it isn't already a well insulated RV. Even if it's insulated you need to at least have reflectix , fleece curtains and or other insulation on Windows. If it's a van conversion insulation is the first most important step. Floor walls and ceiling.

unless you are going skiing or other winter activities why on earth go camping in such weather? You are pretty much stuck inside. Park the rig in the garage and stay home.
