Thank you so much! My wife and have reached tipping point. We realistically cannot afford to keep up the mortgage anymore l, plus we don’t really like where we live. Lack of money and working ourselves to the bone has also led to cracks in our relationship. Watching Ame, you and others has pushed us to decide to sell up. Convert a van, see some of the world. Also try and find a plot of rural land as a base for off grid living. Wish us luck! Might get to shake your hand on the road one day 👍🏼

My mother saw my father killed in an accident, developed dementia, and then had a massive stroke… which took her life. I am glad that you were able to spend that time with her, as I did with my mother, and those memories (and the knowledge that you did all that you could for her) are priceless. God bless you two as you navigate this time of life. We never know where life will take us, but I am grateful for my faith in God’s plan in the big picture. Thank you for sharing your story. Everyone out there, use every chance to spend time with your parents. Your time with them is not unlimited and no matter how much time you spend with them, once they're gone you'll regret not spending more time with them regardless. But they'll have you around till the end and that's what matters. ^^ Obviously there are exceptions where connecting with one's parents is just not possible anymore due to personal circumstances, but if you're in good standing with your family, use it to be with them a lot. ❤

Jim from Ohio 🇺🇸 Thanks for your personal disclosure. I dropped what I was doing in the aviation industry to take care of my mother. It was going quite well until she had a massive stroke. It was a big one and she went very quickly. That was about 6 years ago. Wow that time went by quick! We were very close and no one is ever ready for such a thing. Four months later, to the day, my service dog died of a heart attack, right in my arms. Hearing your story brought back a lot of these thoughts that I haven’t focused on for some time now… anyways, I wrote you a few days ago telling you guys about my ambition to do the USA in a van and live aboard boat. So… we shall see how all of this works out in the future. Tell Ame I said “HI” Thanks again, Stay safe…

I hope Charlotte feels closer to her mum now that you all are living in France, and it helps you all through the healing process; you're such a lovely family. The learning process you've undergone during the past 18 months really puts you at an advantage over those of us who haven't ever done van life - even if you later decide to move back into a regular house, you'll never need to worry about being homeless or getting stuck in one place paying high rents, because with your van you will always have a place to live, and the skills to live well! ❤

Good video. Most people spend the whole year saving up for a 2 or 3 week holiday. You have got it as a way of life. I like France we inherited a cottage in the Morvan National Park which is part of Burgundy. Our daughters drive all the way there and are just content to stay in the garden surrounded by nature, including red squirrels, grass snakes, adders, moles, woodpeckers , owls, deer, wild boar. One thing about France, the food is good.😎

Strange coincidences in life - I am a Brit with a French wife and I know the towns you visit in the Cote d'Azur really well. Like Charlotte, my dad had a huge stroke in 2013 and survived only for 3 months in hospital. I own a structural engineering consultancy in the UK and somehow managed to get through the 2008 crash, the pandemic and now with the changing economy. I pretty much have had enough. I am contemplating selling the business, our house and buying a place in Cavaliere (next to Le Lavandou). Perhaps our paths may cross one day!
@midlifevanlife Жыл бұрын
Thank you John. I am sorry to hear that you had to go through such a hard time with your dad. We know Cavalaire and have spent time there. If you have the opportunity, go for it. I know that we are consistently reminded how expensive old age is and that we have to save the maximum amount and even that won’t be enough. We absolutely have to be prepared but it cannot be at the expense of everything else. Whatever you decide will be right for you and your situation. Wishing you well for the future and thank you ❤️

Guy, I'm sorry for your loss and glad that all has worked out in the end. Just a little advice if you haven't done this already. The plastic bump rails around the outside of your van are huge water traps as they hide holes which they clip into. These holes over time let the rain in and will rust out the bottoms of your doors and sills. Other van dwellers squirt a big doughnut of silicone sealant around each hole then clip the bump panels back on. No more issues. May you have many more adventures to come 😊 Stay safe

Smart people find ways to thrive in our society's traps. You are smart people. My condolences Charlotte, lost my mom years ago, it is hard). The Real Estate crash around 08-10 was my test. I lost my job due to an injury, i lost all of my RE holdings as tenants stopped paying rent, then my brother committed suicide, then my father died, as did my cat...all within a 2 year period. I haven't seen a video as honest and real as yours in a long time. For years I follow my life in a van, small houses, out of a desire to fulfill a dream and out of financial challenges that have arisen over the years. That's why it's so refreshing to see real people explain the truth without embellishing the situation like you see so much on other channels. I wish you much success and fulfillment.

I think it’s wonderful what you are doing. I have always liked the idea of being like a turtle having your home with you wherever you go. I like that sense of freedom and not having a mortgage or paying rent. I especially love seeing videos of the three of you together. I see so much fun and banter among you but most of all a lot of love. Thank you for sharing your story and looking forward to being a part of more stories to come. 😘

I've been following Amee for well over a year now and her vids had occasionally included meet ups with you which (I won't lie), did intrigue me. Today was the first time I watched one of one of your own vlogs - this one. Going on all your major crisis', you both have my utmost respect by finding the strength to stick it out and stay together and more importantly, the fact you were grieving yourself you also got Amee through her own testing time, the death of her nanny and her A levels. You're bloody awesome parents and Amee is a fine product of what you both stand for and what a fantastic close family unit you are. Your honesty and humble reflections of lifes decisions are quite sobering and indeed inspirational. You've got a new fan as I've just subbed.

@@midlifevanlife as they say 'it's not about the big punches you take, it's how you get uo from them' that defines one! You're all still standing tall. Truly amazing 👏 . I've just bought my first camper after 5 years of planning and are planning to go to France with my son in his groovy self-made camper for the rugby World Cup next year. If I meet you on the way it would be a pleasure to buy you both a drink 🍸

My wife's mom also had a stroke during the pandemic and then caught covid whilst in hospital resulting in her passing away so we understand how hard it must of been. Respect to the both of you I enjoy watching yours and amy's videos, I hope my daughters grow to be as independent and confident as she. Stay safe and enjoy life.

And, with all my dribble, I understand your situation. I had a VERY sick wife who eventually passed away fourteen years ago. Being a caregiver is a VERY demanding job and anyone who does live through it are heros in my book...
