Thank you so much! My wife and have reached tipping point. We realistically cannot afford to keep up the mortgage anymore l, plus we don’t really like where we live. Lack of money and working ourselves to the bone has also led to cracks in our relationship. Watching Ame, you and others has pushed us to decide to sell up. Convert a van, see some of the world. Also try and find a plot of rural land as a base for off grid living. Wish us luck! Might get to shake your hand on the road one day 👍🏼

My mother saw my father killed in an accident, developed dementia, and then had a massive stroke… which took her life. I am glad that you were able to spend that time with her, as I did with my mother, and those memories (and the knowledge that you did all that you could for her) are priceless. God bless you two as you navigate this time of life. We never know where life will take us, but I am grateful for my faith in God’s plan in the big picture. Thank you for sharing your story. Blessings to you both! 😊❤

I live in Brighton Marina ..it’s just little old Moi and my short legged Romanian rescue dog ..Kita .. I wish I could send you a photograph. You would love her to pieces .. anyway I’m so pleased do you have a KZbin channel I’m sure Ame .. nudged you into it ..she is wise ..:. I’m pretty sure she got a wiseness from her mother. 😂

Everyone out there, use every chance to spend time with your parents. Your time with them is not unlimited and no matter how much time you spend with them, once they're gone you'll regret not spending more time with them regardless. But they'll have you around till the end and that's what matters. ^^ Obviously there are exceptions where connecting with one's parents is just not possible anymore due to personal circumstances, but if you're in good standing with your family, use it to be with them a lot. ❤

I hope Charlotte feels closer to her mum now that you all are living in France, and it helps you all through the healing process; you're such a lovely family. The learning process you've undergone during the past 18 months really puts you at an advantage over those of us who haven't ever done van life - even if you later decide to move back into a regular house, you'll never need to worry about being homeless or getting stuck in one place paying high rents, because with your van you will always have a place to live, and the skills to live well! ❤

67 here/Seattle, WA./USA. I started watching your daughter on her own van build; she was one of about 15-20 I was taking "notes" on- progress, design, features, considerations....and Ame did great! I can relate to your life story, hardships, and rising again....and that's all that matters. I'm glad the three of you keep a close orbit and get to enjoy things together. Because my parents NEVER went skiing w/ me! The only decisions I've made is: I must have 4x4; Not AWD, but true 4x4. And insulate the crap out of it!

Strange coincidences in life - I am a Brit with a French wife and I know the towns you visit in the Cote d'Azur really well. Like Charlotte, my dad had a huge stroke in 2013 and survived only for 3 months in hospital. I own a structural engineering consultancy in the UK and somehow managed to get through the 2008 crash, the pandemic and now with the changing economy. I pretty much have had enough. I am contemplating selling the business, our house and buying a place in Cavaliere (next to Le Lavandou). Perhaps our paths may cross one day!
@midlifevanlife
@midlifevanlife Жыл бұрын
Thank you John. I am sorry to hear that you had to go through such a hard time with your dad. We know Cavalaire and have spent time there. If you have the opportunity, go for it. I know that we are consistently reminded how expensive old age is and that we have to save the maximum amount and even that won’t be enough. We absolutely have to be prepared but it cannot be at the expense of everything else. Whatever you decide will be right for you and your situation. Wishing you well for the future and thank you ❤️

Jim from Ohio 🇺🇸 Thanks for your personal disclosure. I dropped what I was doing in the aviation industry to take care of my mother. It was going quite well until she had a massive stroke. It was a big one and she went very quickly. That was about 6 years ago. Wow that time went by quick! We were very close and no one is ever ready for such a thing. Four months later, to the day, my service dog died of a heart attack, right in my arms. Hearing your story brought back a lot of these thoughts that I haven’t focused on for some time now… anyways, I wrote you a few days ago telling you guys about my ambition to do the USA in a van and live aboard boat. So… we shall see how all of this works out in the future. Tell Ame I said “HI” Thanks again, Stay safe…

Guy, I'm sorry for your loss and glad that all has worked out in the end. Just a little advice if you haven't done this already. The plastic bump rails around the outside of your van are huge water traps as they hide holes which they clip into. These holes over time let the rain in and will rust out the bottoms of your doors and sills. Other van dwellers squirt a big doughnut of silicone sealant around each hole then clip the bump panels back on. No more issues. May you have many more adventures to come 😊 Stay safe

Good video. Most people spend the whole year saving up for a 2 or 3 week holiday. You have got it as a way of life. I like France we inherited a cottage in the Morvan National Park which is part of Burgundy. Our daughters drive all the way there and are just content to stay in the garden surrounded by nature, including red squirrels, grass snakes, adders, moles, woodpeckers , owls, deer, wild boar. One thing about France, the food is good.😎

Smart people find ways to thrive in our society's traps. You are smart people. My condolences Charlotte, lost my mom years ago, it is hard). The Real Estate crash around 08-10 was my test. I lost my job due to an injury, i lost all of my RE holdings as tenants stopped paying rent, then my brother committed suicide, then my father died, as did my cat...all within a 2 year period. So i scrambled for an old RV and went off into the sunset. It was challenging, joyful, bouts of anxiety, exciting, and so healing. I admire you all including Amie. Smart People. Hugs to you all.

Love France, I have an Irish passport so can stay work in France for as long as we want. We are off to Spain and Portugal for 6 months in October. We have full-time insurance, expensive but takes any worry out of claiming if needed. We don't need hookup as we are fully dilated and battery covered. I've been following Amee for well over a year now and her vids had occasionally included meet ups with you which (I won't lie), did intrigue me. Today was the first time I watched one of one of your own vlogs - this one. Going on all your major crisis', you both have my utmost respect by finding the strength to stick it out and stay together and more importantly, the fact you were grieving yourself you also got Amee through her own testing time, the death of her nanny and her A levels. You're bloody awesome parents and Amee is a fine product of what you both stand for and what a fantastic close family unit you are. Your honesty and humble reflections of lifes decisions are quite sobering and indeed inspirational. You've got a new fan as I've just subbed.

@@midlifevanlife as they say 'it's not about the big punches you take, it's how you get uo from them' that defines one! You're all still standing tall. Truly amazing 👏 . I've just bought my first camper after 5 years of planning and are planning to go to France with my son in his groovy self-made camper for the rugby World Cup next year. If I meet you on the way it would be a pleasure to buy you both a drink 🍸

Great video guys. Nice to hear the full story. Although not a happy one it sounds like a happy ending as you embrace your new lives. I went though a similar situation with my parents. I moved back in with them for 3.5 years as my mom slowly died of dementia / cancer & my dad of heart failure after having.a major heart attack at 75 years old. Over the last 3 years I've also taken a strong interest in doing van life but I've only been taking it super seriously since Ame randomly popped up on my KZbin feed. I was watching a lot of van "build" videos at the time & her time lapse video popped up one day. I was so impressed by her as she basically showed her work step by step. After that I started watching her videos regularly. She is such a bright light for the van life genre but she's going to be a superstar far beyond this before she's done. I don't think van life can contain her creative energy & I imagine a lot of that she gets from you guys.

I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. I’m sure i’m not the only one who could almost feel Charlotte’s pain recalling such a heartbreaking and undeniably stressful time. My mum had a stroke in 2012 and my stepdad didn’t leave her side at the hospital. She survived but had significant damage to her brain, she is disabled, has aphasia and can no longer use her right arm/hand, but i never go a day without reminding myself how fortunate we are that she survived. Thank you for sharing your story. I love watching your journey, as well as how real you are and your banter as a family is awesome. (I am subscribed to Ame too). It’s really inspiring how you have been through hard times (understatement, i know) but committed to your goals and achieved them. I love your van build. The tiles are my favourite part… they’re so beautiful… and well, the shower is incredibly impressive! Equally my favourite. I have the people I house-share with watching your videos too. One is a joiner and said he could never figure out how to do such a good van build. Your yorkie (not sure which one was joining in to make the video) behind you was the best start to a video. I have too many little dogs to live in a van (was 5, but now 4 as one passed away at Christmas), but your yorkies are living their best lives. A new adventure (walkies) every other day! I love when they meet up with Gigi. 😂 thank you for inviting us to see a glimpse of van life with real talk and humour… and Charlotte’s cooking vlogging. I never imagined you could eat so well living in a van. It makes sense that you need a lot of counter space. Is it ever an issue not having a shortcut door to the cab like Ame? Or have you never had a problem with needing a quick exit from a location? x

Thank you for taking the time to comment Stace ❤ we really appreciate the support. It sounds as though you have all been through a very hard time with your mum. The tiles are my favourite part too😊 I think the shower will forever be Rob’s proudest creation (sorry Amé 😂) I do love cooking so will put up with most inconveniences in the kitchen- but I am lucky to have a good amount of kitchen surface. We do have a way to access the front cab, I don’t think it has been shown in any video though, we will have to show it😊

I had seen Amie mentioning the beginning's of van life for her and briefly she touched on you starting it shortly after but O always felt like something had been going on behind the scenes or left unsaid on youtube anyway which was completely fine. But the fact that you two were brave enough to speak on the reasons you started and even more importantly why you stayed living the van life is the realest thing ive seen in awhile and I appreciate it. So sorry for your loss. My dad died in 1990, when I was 18. It was tough. My mom died in 2010, when I was 38. It was just as tough. In the last few years, I've lost so many people, friends and family that I'm losing count, really. Very difficult to move on, but we must.
