Suggestion, looks like you might have missed a beautiful scenic drive when you left Mt Rushmore, when you leave Mt Rushmore, go left on 244, then take 16A towards Custer state park, there are a few tunnels you go thru and some really cool circular wooden bridges. At least 2 of those tunnels, when you look thru the tunnel, you see the monument, what I read was they built the tunnels for that purpose, then figured how to get the roads to them, I would suggest you take that drive if you go back! I really enjoy your videos, you have went most of the same places we went in 2015.

Hello from S Florida! I road out to Sturgis from Florida years ago. It's always best to stay a week after everyone leaves, you were smart. Even though there was no construction when I was there, I was anticipating Mt Rushmore to be bigger also! I'm getting my coach this summer, and going fulltime with my motorcycles next year! O my gosh, I got so "homesick" when I watched this. When my husband was alive and my kids were young, we used to travel from our home in Washington state to Minnesota to visit his family so we have done this trip sooooooo many times. Unfortunately, it has already been 7 years since we were back there. This last time it was with my sister, and one of my sons and 3 of my grandkids. Great memories

When you go back, ride the Custer State Park Wildlife Loop. That’s where you see the bison and other wildlife. Also, ride down from Deadwood through Hill City and Custer, stop at Crazy Horse. Much nicer than the route through Rapid City via I90.

Hey, my husband and I are from Florida also and went on our Indian to Sturgis the same year you did and took the same route to Mt. Rushmore. We stayed in Keystone and loved the Steam train that you take from there to Hill city. It was a great scenic ride thru the mountains. Plan to do it again soon. Missed a lot, liked Custer state park also.

Oh. Bummer. I would be disappointed not getting closer. Get out that mega zoom 🤣. Love the low angle filming while riding. Cool perspective. Wow. That “tunnel” looked like it could only take a bike. Nice that they have those pull off spots. Yeah. Our dually would not fit. 🤣 Another reason why we should have a follow behind car. This makes me chant to watch the Deadwood series too. Good tips. The “right body” 😅. Sounds like quite a hike. Cool. A Speak easy. Some sweeeet rides there at that dealership. The antique stuff would be cool at that giant Wall Drug store. Good tip about no dogs on the Badlands. Love the Bloopers. Take care on the road. Alice

Go back and watch your video when you leave Mt. Rushmore and you pause the video and point to George. That parking lot on your left is free and there is a little trail behind you less than a quarter of a mile. For wildlife, go back to Custer State Park and drive the wildlife loop. Motorcycles are allowed. Huge tip....be sure to stop in Hill City at the Alpine Inn for lunch. That is a local favorite as well as almost a state destination.

We were there the same week, went to Custer park one day and saw nothing, went back the next day and all the critters were out. When we arrived at Rushmore there was a huge thunderstorm coming, the cars were getting parked on the top level, but when we came through on the bike the attendant said "hail coming" and moved a barricade out of the way so we got a lower level spot. I did hail, rain, lightning etc for about an hour when we were there. Awesome area for riding.

You all need to check out Bobarosa in Del Rio, TN. I’m not sure if your RV is too big for the camp ground part but it’s an awesome biker bar to visit. The owners are super fun and hospitable. If you go tell Jessie the crew from Morehead, KY sent you! All bikes are welcome, they have great food if you are out on the bike looking for lunch or dinner. Definitely a great place to check out if you are on a trip to the Blue Ridge parkway.

My dad was one of those missilemen stationed at Ellsworth AFB just outside Rapid City during the '60s - the main thing I remember about Wall Drug from back then was the JACKALOPE! Wall Drug was THE place to get to see the one, the ONLY, the mythical Jackalope that had ever been captured! (Wink, wink!) To us kids, THAT was the reason Wall Drug was so famous!

Also the Badlands Inn is partially open for getting a room at this time.

We went through there a month before you. Bummer about the construction for you. I guess we were lucky to miss it. So interesting that you put this video up on the exact same day my daughter and son in law drove through Sturgis ( and visited Mt. Rushmore) on their way to Madison for a family emergency. Truly the blessing for a sad situation. She was actually face timing me as they drove through that same tunnel! (The first one you filmed, not the Needle's Eye Tunnel) They actually got to Mt. Rushmore and there was NO traffic!! First time I was there it was cloudy and foggy....and we had to wait for the clouds to lift just a little to see the faces. But they didn't... the weather was wonderful today.

I used to work at the KOA campground at Horse Thief lake, and Mount Rushmore is very large. GW's nose is around 20 something feet tall, and his entire head is 60 feet tall.. ;) Hill City SD high schoolers are the only kids that get to graduate at Mount Rushmore. Also, the only school in America authorized to use "Smokey The Bear" as their mascot.. ;) They have a little arena that is even closer than the main observation area, and from there, you can definitely tell just how incredibly large they really are... ;) Glad you got to see them! And visit the beautiful Black Hills... ;)

We went to Mount Rushmore in June 2020 during Covid it was easy to! We stayed in Spearfish South Dakota which was right near the Montana border it was a beautiful city campground much to our surprise we are planning on going back there and staying in the same campground. We did go to Custer State Park and saw plenty of Buffalo on the north side of the park so I guess it just kind of depends on which day it is that was a beautiful trip through needles highway as well we love that and we drove the truck had the camper at the campground !

Being from out of state you missed quite a bit. The Needles highway probably got its name from the rock formation of the needles eye along with the adjoining spires. Best way to see wildlife in Custer park is to camp there and do the wildlife loop first thing in the morning. During the heat of the day intelligent wildlife retreat to the shade! See the Adams museum in Deadwood and definitely visit the Black Hills Archaeological institute in Hill City. Also do the Spearfish canyon road. BTW if you do the Needles highway and Iron Mountain road from the other direction you will notice that all the tunnels frame Mt Rushmore.
