You said, "You don't need a CDL", I will be purchasing a 5th wheel and I've read a lot of state law and most of them require a CDL if your 5th wheel and truck are greater than a certain number of feet. It differs in different states.

Common misunderstanding. The C in CDL means Commercial. The Class of license is what is the real focus. You can have a Class A, B or C license and be exempt from needing the CDL. In short, you do not need a CDL in order to have a particular Class of license. Again, very common misunderstanding here.

@@hewittgordon8843 In S.C. it's E and F for. vehicles over 26000 lbs GV weight and F if over 26000 lbs and towing. D is standard drivers license (under 26001 Gvw)

You may need a CDL if the GVWR or GCW is over 26,000, If not a CDL then a special class license.

you are right. I am in NC. I must have a class b non commercial cdl

Depends on the state. If I am not mistaken, Florida does not require anything.
