I was tired of my fridge playing games. So I found a replacement 12 v fridge. It's co.pression like a residential one so all the ammonia crap isn't needed giving you much more space. It runs on 12v so I can run it off of my batteries and solar. Although I plan to get a dedicated battery. Apparently that's what your supposed to have. It fit the same hole with a slight modification. But I'm very pleased. $900 and I financed it. Came in the mail. I plan to replace the one in my new rv and in my camper. No more propane! I'm 100% off grid so if I can get as many appliances onto solar I'm better off. Especially now that the world's ending.

Another great video jenna ,they are costly but the perfect choice for off grid living.i had used 2 6 volt batteries a 12 volt timer and a heat sink. Was able to keep icebox at 3 or 4 celcius. Worked great to keep things cool. I'll look for receipts for those goodies and keep you posted .

And actually I had more room in the new fridge than the old dometic. Better buy a 3/8 cap for the lp line after you shut off lp line. I did it all myself. That ammonia will get in your lungs, nostril, and mouth and you can get your lungs scarred. I've had a cough ever since

As I said in your last vid pull that frig out, you can put one outside under your awning, you can buy a combo electric and gas, you can have your new entrance to your bathroom. $800 is allot of money honey.

You rock Gypsy Jenna. I got meself a 30 footer and am redoing the floor. it was used as a workshop so whats really nice is that its an open floor plan and I can layout everything how I want as opposed to having a narrow hallway and this is this and that is that. bathroom is all the way in the back. almost done and next will be the woodstove and murphy bed install etc...will post video perhaps soon....

I have to agree I don't know how anyone can live with an ice cooler as a fridge. I have a fridge/freezer in my old RV that works off and on. So it needs some troubleshooting done to it. When I saw the part where you had the fridge door shut to keep the smell inside the fridge I was thinking why don't you open the door to let the ammonia smell air out and you could go outside. But then you would have to put the cats on the catio or outside. Anyway, so glad to see it is fixed. = ) edit: I could spend hours walking around the Bass Pro store.

WOW another awesome video! We learn so much from your content! We are hoping to take the big step and live full time in our camper off grid as well. We live just outside Charlottetown PEI, the same kinda weather as you and was wondering how we were gonna handle our refridgeration needs. We were wondering if you keep track of your propane use? Like how much you go through on a given month, winter vs summer as far as pounds? We were getting about 2 weeks running our fridge and freezer last summer, would you say thats about the same as you? and have you ever thought about getting larger tanks? Or running off solar instead of propane? Thanks again for your awesome videos! Looking forward to more from you!
@gypsyjenna5 жыл бұрын
That is great to hear and yes the weather should be very similar! I have multiple 20 and 30 lb propane tanks. Usually 2 weeks or more out of them. In the winter you will go through a lot if you use your on board furnace but I use wood stove instead. The furnace is always set incase no one is home to tend the fire. I hope the transition to off grid goes well for you!

Be careful.camper fridges also run on propane. Check to see if there was a recall on that unit.. they had a big recall years ago. Worth looking into. Bleach white should fix the yellowing.. that's the stuff for white wall tires at the car parts store

Geez what a pain in the butt that is! I know because I’ve had the same problems in a few of the campers I’ve owned. I’ve had the same problem with mice nesting in the vent and anyplace they could squeeze into. You did everything anyone could possibly do which shows how self sufficient you are! You could trim off the area that protrudes out with some 1/4 round that’s available at Home Depot or most home centers. Comes in wood grain finish or white. Just a thought! Ya done really good Jenna!!! Cheers.....Pete.

RV fridges are of the "absorption" type and contrary to logic, they work HARDER in cold temps. I bite the bullet and shut mine off during the cold months, since mother nature provides lots of ice for my cooler. As soon as spring arrives, I'll turn it on again.
