We don't usually disclose actual pricing on then projects because they are all different. There was a more than a few thousand for this. My first option and recommendation for this repair was to burn it...lol....the customer wanted to move forward. We left the interior for him to finish...like trim and small items he could easily handle. We appreciate all the work that comes our way...however we like to be honest and upfront about what could go sideways. I would not have repaired this coach if it were mine. But....that has a lot to do with it being aluminum sided.....not a fan of aluminum sided campers. Most of the bigger repairs we have done have been on aluminum sided campers. Thanks for watching!

So I have a camper the same year as this, same colors ect but is a FS 26 Ultralite. @ years ago had the rubber roof repaired and today found that repair has been leaking and no I have rot. Since I am so far away in New Mexico can you give me a ballpark what this repair cost? like say 5 thousand to 7 thousand?

I have my first camper. I bought it used and have done a little wood rot work that was needed. Being my first time there were a ton of things that I didn't know to look at. So today I started working on a soft spot in the corner like you were doing. The problem that I think so many of us have is a dry place to do the work and keep it dry until it's ready to be sealed and caulked. But I'm learning and being retried will allow me time to work on it. I've also replace some minor things like the water valve on back of the toilet and some trim in the bath room. Wish me luck. I've boated for 45 years and have had lake boats and cruisers. At least the camper is more friendly to work on.

Well the first one had an Aluminum siding and that's bad, the second RV had Fiberglass, and that's bad, seems like they all leak. I don't think it is the materials used but the crappy way most of today's RV are being made. I have a toy hauler that one blowout and it took out our entire kitchen, the fold up bunk bed, the ladder, the awning and the water heater, because the wheel wells were made of cheap plastic, that rubber eat the plastic, every label of the floor and everything in its path in less than a minute, we received the warning of pressure and boom. If you don't have thick reinforced metal for your wheel well, you are sitting on a time bomb. Metal tandem wells costed me around $200.00 for the pair, where these guys cut corners is mind blowing. My next RV will be an empty commercial box truck with lift gate on the back and large doors on the sides, I will design and build my way. There's even some kits available now,

Very impressive work. Love the no-nonsense approach and matter-of-fact language. What are you using for joint/seam tape on the roof sheeting or what do you recommend for OSB with a PVC membrane going over it?
@RVROOFINSTALL
@RVROOFINSTALL Жыл бұрын
The seam tape on the joints are remnant strips of the TPO roof membrane we use. We do not use PVC we install TPO. They are very similar. PVC is generally more expensive and is used on roofs where some of the biproducts or fallout wouyld damage another type of of membrane. I am speaking in the commercial roof industry not the RV industry. We do not use anything RV here...everything is commercial grade. We rather plywood than OSB. It is smoother. OSB, by design, is not smooth. It appears to be smooth becasue there is a wax on one side, the side the press plste is on. The manufacturer applies wax to the press plate so the resins don't stick to the plate. So although appear to be smooth...adhesive wonb't adger to wax. Which is why you see roofs blowing up as the travel down the highway. Thanks for watching.

I did some small interior repairs and noticed allllllll the water dripping down the inside of the walls. I did not see any vapor barrier or plastic just a couple measly pieces of fiberglass. I ASSUME that you guys have a band saw of some kind. Really neat how you re-designed the camber on the roof, both in left/right and front/back directions. It looks like you have new panels inside because the back of the panels looked great. I am really amazed at the quality of the work you do. Just superb.....................

This type of damage is why I'm glad I bought an aluminum framed RV. Now about those finger jointed pieces. There's nothing wrong with them, if the right glue is used and a tight joint. The real problem is with the width of them. They should be wider to handle the load and movement of traveling at 60+ mph down the lousy maintained roads across the country. This particular RV looks like a lost cause.
@RVROOFINSTALL
@RVROOFINSTALL 4 жыл бұрын
The aluminum frames are generally not welded properly is what we find. Also the alloynin the aluminum is low grade....cheap. As far as finger joints they are not structural. They were intended you recycle decent wood for non-structural applications and as nailers inside the wall. But they are all the same. Whatever you may think is better I assure you the manufacturer did it for their convenience and not yours. If I owned one...which I don't, I would prefer wood over aluminum. Thanks for watching!

1) ETERNA BOND Roof seal tape, RSW, VW,etc...mfg royal microcellant technologies HB Fuller. Use this tape on all of your seams of your ro of and any of your parts that need to be sealed as well from water. TIP: TO REMOVE this tape you use a heat gun or a hair dryer heated up and use a plastic spackle spreader they call it a joint knife if it's metal I guess, And you can once the material is softened up from the heat gun you can scrape it off and use gasoline to clean it up or mineral spirits I believe but gasoline cleans it up the best there is a video on this. 2) CHEMLINK M1- For your structural adhesive for putting your roof panels on and gluing them down. I'm sure you could probably use this for other things at your discretion I am not an expert but I'm going to use these adhesives for my camper at this point in time. 3) 3M #90- $12.98 a green can found at Home Depot and Lowe's in the paint/adhesives isles-used for your delamination or side panels of your camper that use plastic phylon FRP wood metal it does it all read the can I am not an expert. 4) DURALINK 50 used for your lap sealant I guess from what I researched it's better than dicor and RV roof repair guys I believe use this stuff because it came from someone who did their research watching their videos. Again do your research I am not an expert. And I'm going to use these materials as spoken here. Unless I need one I can rebut this info.

We appreciate the tips, however caulks need to be compatible. If any self leveling caulk has silicone in it, then nothing will stick to it. Also when using any tapes understand that you will need to thoroughly clean the area with a denatured alcohol and then you will have to apply a primer to the area getting taped and then to the tape perimeter itself or the caulk you apply around the perimeter of the tape will not adhere to the tape. Always do a test spot to ensure things are working well before you trek the whole project to find it failed. Dicor is manufactured by Carlisle Syntec...a commercial roof manaufacturer. Carlisle makes an EPDM self leveling lap sealant in white and black.
