Glad you made it okay! That grapevine is no joke. Me and my fiancé live in Bakersfield and we recently bought an RV! We had to drive to San Diego and on our way back, I had to drive our new baby down the grapevine. We almost overheated. Had to pull over as soon as the steep downgrade ended. It was a scary ride home.

That video of the grapevine brings back a memory. I was driving a big rig and my very first solo run was out of Pompano, fully loaded and scaled out at 77K pounds going over the grapevine at night. The grapevine is a 6 percent grade for about 5 miles. I made the summit and started down the other side which is long sweeping curves. Talk about a wild ride.

I luv the Grapevine area. Used to travel from Newport Beach up thru LA on to Bakersfield where I would work on occasion. So so pretty there. What a sweet life you have.

Russ your right the grapevine is a real hard pull especially in the summer.Most of my trips over the mountain were with the big truck and the downhill side can be a bad deal if you dont know what you are doing. Great video. Stay safe out there.

300 miles is a good pull for an old guy...I just got back from a 297 mi return and my back hurts. I'm not recovered from the winter/spring drivin', let alone summer. Scoobs was surfin in the back...nice.

The first mod I did to my tow vehicle was to install a deeper finned aluminum transmission pan, a second trans cooler and a trans temperature gauge. I pulled my TT up that grade in the peak summer heat with no issues. BTW, I left an anchor at the bottom of Pyramid Lake many years ago when I couldn't free it up. Keep cool.
