I appreciated this video. We started looking into this before Covid. We had not been monitoring this at all and in the fall started RV shopping again and learned about the premium of new and used RVs. We still moved forward. Then we found we shouldn’t have bought 40’ and now finding we missed the boat on bookings this summer. This helped.

we live in OKC & took our trailer out for the 1st time to Silver Dollar City Branson Mo. We were at WalMart almost every other day picking up something else. At first I took a lot of paper plates & plastic eating utensils. I hate putting all of that into landfills so when we got home straight to Walmart and 4 settings of everything. I don't mind doing a few dishes !!!

@@EnjoyTheJourneyLife We learned outside Yellowstone at the ____?___ Ranch you can often park in the parking lot... and the next morning you are there to snag a rv spot that was opened up!

When that website was passed on between friends, it worked great. But another well known RV channel made a video about it and it is freely discussed on Facebook. It still can work, but not like before. The more people who use it, the less chance you have of getting the site. Plus there are many more RVers than before. But we chose living full time in our RV- that means the good and the bad. Keep safe, Alice
@debbier26263 жыл бұрын
Also, on this site not all states are even included in it, i.e. AZ, so not all popular parks & campgrounds are even searchable in my experiences so far. 😒 Frustrating with this kind of encouraging ppl to book then cancel and stalking reserve games all the time!! Honest families and good hard working ppl that don't have bulging budgets can't find getaways & nicer campground sites unless they become manipulators of the reservations games? Wow.
@DownsizingMakesCents3 жыл бұрын
@@debbier2626 Debbie, it’s been so hard, especially as full timers. People will book out weekends 11 months in advance. I guess they can afford the cancellation fees. We can’t. Now I hear you can pay people to get you a spot? It’s getting so hard to get anything- even with a Thousand Trails membership. Alice
@dzymslizzy36413 жыл бұрын
WOW! Backed right up to the water in one of the shots in your intro! I wouldn't DARE!! With my luck, I'd get so stuck in that sand...especially with a heavy vehicle like an RV. I don't think I'd even drive my lil' ol' F150 onto that surface. Hell...I got stuck in the sand in my own damn yard one time!!! :-O This whole reservation thing is new-ish to me. When I was a kid, we'd go camping, and just show up, never an issue. And my dad loved to go to the national parks. We always got in. When I took my kids on similar trips in the late 1970s--early1980s, we mostly got in without reservations. KOAs were the only places we needed them. (In my tent camping days, I found some opposite frustrations: there were a few places we went where we had trouble finding tent sites; they were all RV only!) But for me, that puts you on a schedule, and escaping from schedules and just being free-wheeling and spontaneous is the WHOLE POINT of a vacation! I don't like this "new reality." In any case, my RV dream is dead. I'm 73, and have developed a minor heart issue; my mother-in-law is 10 years older and very infirm; dependent upon a walker even inside the house...and I just did the math...we'd have to exclusively boondock to afford it, and that wouldn't suit her at all. In listening to your nightly rates, yes, far less pricey than hotels/motels, but I did the math...and my monthly mortgage payment works out to just over 2 bucks per day to stay in my sticks and bricks! And that's actually about 60% of my entire social security check--the only income I have. There is no way I'd be able to afford to pay in advance for a bunch of different sites months ahead! I definitely live paycheck to paycheck. Social security isn't really enough to live on AND have any left for savings or emergencies. Cancellation fees? Nope..I need every one of those $20 or $30!! :-( :-O I wish I could sign up as a Boondockers Welcome host, but I really have nothing to offer; no sewer, no real electric, no water except our well water, and it doesn't taste very good....plus our entry drive is a tight navigation, even though the lot is large. Still, I could only host one at a time, because we are on septic, so there are places where vehicles cannot drive or park. Sigh. Our "travel plans" this year...we probably had our travel already; had to spend one night at a motel in the next-door town due to a plumbing emergency! THAT cost us $151 WITH my AAA discount! I guess that's our 'travel' for the year....otherwise, we just do day trips to places like Old Town Sacramento...or over to the coast south of San Francisco...

Thanks so much Tom! Whenever I see a site available at Bahia Honda and try to book it, it tells me I can’t book until 8 AM EST. I start at 7:30 am, hitting return constantly, but no luck. Guess I’ll start trying Sunshine Key at 1 am EST.

Nicely done, Tom! Great video, clear explanations and on-point tips! Jeanne and I and our pup Hershey have been fulltime traveling since last July 2020 and we use all of the strategies that you do. It is all very doable, albeit sometimes with a lot of work and a bit of luck, even in these RV’ing boom times. We haven’t had to cancel a reservation yet in favor of a better alternative, and avoid doing so, but it can be necessary in a pinch. We would take some solace in knowing that the site would be snapped up in a heartbeat and probably make another camper super happy. Jeanne and I have been using RV Trip Wizard for a couple years now and absolutely love the platform!! It’s such a great way to plan, research and make reservations. So worth the annual subscription as far as we’re concerned! And don’t feel bad about sharing the Wandering Labs tip! That’s been out there for a long time now. Jeanne and I abhor when other RVers, fulltime or otherwise, advocate for “keeping secrets” from others, especially when it comes to the PUBLIC lands (“owned” by ALL of us) out there. Not sharing is, well, not nice in our opinion. So, we applaud your spirit of sharing for the community of all of us. We still have a few gaps to fill b/t now and the end of 2021 (we’re set with our big/main destinations up through March 2020), but it’s fun working in filling those in-between needs! Like you, I enjoy the challenge and scoring cool sites! Btw, I’m writing this atop Nomad View/The Wall in the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands/The Badlands in Wall, SD, where we’re boondocking for 7 days. Absolutely extraordinary!! :-). (And, yes, solar power is a beautiful thing!) ☀️⚡️ Happy and safe travels to you and Cherie!

Badlands to Yellowstone, to Grand Teton to Bearfoot Hwy boondocking, then to Rocky Mountain National Park. May 23 to June 18 booked so far. Then hang around CO for a few weeks.
@mickeymcintosh34253 жыл бұрын
For Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Parks it is better to change locations, even if you camp in the park. They are huge with lots of driving so moving campsites help. Note:. I'm 3 hours from them. My opinion for the best times to go are early spring when they 1st open when you'll see lots of babies or autumn when the elk are bugling.

Signed up for wanderinglabs.com, about 5 days later got a email saying they were "pausing my request because of resources ", however if I sent them some money they would never pause my request. Needless to say I will not bother with them again.

Oh, interesting....thanks for sharing that!

Those handicap camping spots crack me up. They are mostly empty and appear no different than other sites. Looks basically like set-aside. RV sites may be different but with camping, those spots get wasted.

Your RV Trip Wizard looks diffrent from the one I have. I signed up with RV LIfe who says that they merged with Trip Wizard. This does not allow you to do the things I have seen done by many of you guys who i follow. Can you tell me anything about this? Thanks so much and love to follow you on your trips. A fellow Minnesotan, Tim an Diane.

Audio is uncharacteristically uneven. Somehow the volume seems to boost at the edit.

Good catch Charles, I think we have an issue with a setting on our microphone. We will work on getting that fixed for future videos.

What wireless internet would you recommend for someone who needs to be connected 8 hours a day?

If you cancel you will pay the full amount if you cancel. I had to cancel 3weeks in advance and had to pay for the week I had reservations for that was in 2016 before everyone decided to go rving .
@ronaldpigeon47133 жыл бұрын
I agree cancellations could get expensive. Not sure why the RV parks want to charge cancellations when they will turn right around and book it any way. Another revenue stream for them and did not cost them anything.
@brucefay51263 жыл бұрын
While I dislike the “no refund” policy (and think it should be illegal), I suspect that RV parks/resorts in popular places do this to discourage people making lots of reservations, many of which they never intend to use if/when they find a better spot.

Thanks everyone. This has not been our experience. At most we've paid for a one night stay as long as we cancelled at least 7 days in advance.
@ronaldpigeon47133 жыл бұрын
FYI. I just made a reservation the cost of the stay was like 359.00 total. They required/demanded 300.00 deposit. This is for a campground about 5 months out. That will have no trouble filling that reservation if I have to cancel. So why such a high deposit? Taking money out of my pockets 5 mos. out? Because I think they are greedy and can get away with it. Even a hotel does not charge you till you arrive. I do understand a deposit, like one night stay. So they can not loose.

Why don't you tow the Jeep 4 wheel down ? And unhook when you get too camp site !
@arbonneladyTN3 жыл бұрын
No doubt because many states don’t allow a 5th wheel to tow a car🤷♀️

I am glad I only bought a Teardrop. If traveling/camping becomes overly stressful I’ll Not RV America. I’ll transition too guided bus tours, River cruises Princess Cruises. I’ll pay to have others worry about making me a happy traveler.

You do not need a shuttle pass to see the park. Only needed to see the upper canyon and scenic drive road.

Wow cant believe you book things and cancel last minute if you feel like it. Causes others that won't cancel to have to jump through hoops to try and get a spot
@ronaldpigeon47133 жыл бұрын
That is right, if you are doing this as part of your plan. That is terrible. Plus to do that you must have a lot of money, very high deposits earlier. That money is not available for for you to use many month's out if you are to plan several stays.
@Debbie_T_FL3 жыл бұрын
I’m grateful to people who cancel at the last minute. That’s how I find some of my best campground spots, like the awesome 5 nights we got at Lost Dutchman State Park In Apache Junction, AZ. It was the best site in the park 😊
