Abandoned Mine Exploring with Tom and Julie

This video follows us as we explore Death Valley on the Yamaha TW200 (TDub) on 4-4-2019. We rode the TDub on dirt roads, dry washes and through canyons to a secluded cabin. The old miners cabin is located in a picturesque setting and is in great shape. We also explored a couple of interesting mines in the area. We rode about 23 miles and didn't see one person all day.

When you’re at Stella’s cabin it would behoove you to watch your “P’s” & “Q’s”. The door is always open… If I go there I’ll leave a full jug of water in the shade, and a fresh roll of paper in the outer house…

Great cabin. I agree with you about otherworldly and strange things to see in Death Valley. In my opinion I like the jeep much better than the motorcycle. Death Valley and other areas and regions similar to it are quiet, peaceful and full of hidden wildlife. The motorcycle's engine just shocks and surprises the Desert inhabitants. It cancels all that peace, quiet and serenity out.

The fellows did a great job restoring the old cabin. It is a testament to the fact that people who trash things are too lazy to go very far. It looked like there was some sort of running water setup at one time, and even the passive solar on the roof, but I would be surprised if it is in working order now. I wonder what would happen to Julie's sense of humor if I would have kept going for a mile or two. Thanks for the comment, P-Daz!

Gloves and long trousers for Julie but then again, on a bike, maybe just as well. Always amazed when you come across an old deserted cabin in the middle of nowhere, with all the gear still there but great to see it had not been trashed indeed. Nice to get into the cool of a cave but then again, I would be a bit worried what else may also be hiding away from the sun in there. Nice place to get the bikes out, cheers Alan

Long pants keeps you from getting burned by the engine heat or scratched from the brush. The cabin is in good shape and I hope it stays that way. We've been doing a lot of mine exploring lately and have been seeing what we believe to be lion scat inside several of them. Not looking forward to meeting up with a mountain lion, but then again somethings got to get you. :) Thanks for watching, Alan.

We've had the TDub for a bit over 1 year and have kind of a love/hate relationship with it. It is fine to haul on the hitch rack on the Saturn Vue, which has a 350# tongue weight limit, so that is nice. Riding two up can be a pain, depending on the terrain, and I guess this is our main problem with it which is not the bike's fault. It is definitely not a road bike as it's pretty slow. It has been dependable and very easy on fuel on the plus side. The cabin and hills around it are pretty cool. Thanks for the comment, Thorn!

You're right, a nice place to visit. It would be fun to spend a night in the old cabin just for the heck of it. I'm sure it was lonely for the miners...just themselves and all their gold. The TDub is fun as long as we keep it upright. Thanks, woods!

This is the first cabin I ever found in Death Valley. I saw it in a You Tube video and the content creator rattled off a few road names as they drove towards it. Now with improvements to Google Earth, Gaia, reverse image search, etc, it's easy to find almost anything. Getting to that almost anything ain't always easy though, that's why we need channels like this. :)

@@TomandJulieMineExploring Keep it up, you guys are fantastic. I never share locations either. Some channels have more clues than others, but all the good ones make it hard for the vandals. I enjoy the online sleuthing almost as much as going to a site. I very rarely enter mines so I prefer to watch your channel and see what’s inside.
@TomandJulieMineExploring
@TomandJulieMineExploring 7 ай бұрын
@doug6885 Haha, it's a lot safer that way. Being in the mines is very unhealthy because of the dust, and it's obviously dangerous. I hear from several others who like to track us by sleuthing through Google maps using clues seen in our videos.😄
@doug6885
@doug6885 7 ай бұрын
@@TomandJulieMineExploring Your videos don't have many clues. Everyone's "favorite" former model has the most, some of the other mine channels have a lot or at least enough. And some locations just don't lend themselves to being easily found. I like heavy equipment, cabins, old buildings, places that really give my Jeeps a workout. But even if a mine has a lot of old equipment inside, it's still not my thing. I did ride an ore cart in Panamint City, but my son was with me. Or I'll go in a short distance to get a shot looking out, but that's about it. There are people like you guys far better trained to do the below ground stuff. I'll watch from home. :)

A question just to soothe a curiosity itch. Do you guys ride double on the T-dub? If so, does it feel like it has enough power?
@TomandJulieMineExploring
@TomandJulieMineExploring Жыл бұрын
Riding two up is never ideal. With that in mind, we did ride two up, or double, and got around pretty good. With the mine exploring, we couldn't carry all that we needed comfortably on the TDub. So I would say it had enough power to do some casual to moderate off-roading. Hope that helps, Tony!👍🏍
