Re: Casino. The Las Vegas and Tonopah Railroad started running trains to Rhyolite in 1906. ​In the 1930s, the old depot became a casino and bar, and later it became a small museum and souvenir shop that stayed open into the 1970s. Re: Hotel or somethin'. The tallest building in Rhyolite, the Cook Bank building cost its owner $90,000 to build. It was the largest building in town, with two vaults, Italian marble floors, mahogany woodwork, electric lights, running water, telephones and indoor plumbing. It was the last business to close in Rhyolite, shutting its doors in 1910.

In about 2008 we stopped at the Ghost Statues to take a few photos that was before the museum and some of the stuff that's in your video. After taking some shot went back to the car to find we had a flat tire....then the fun started,,, the spare tire was also flat.(some person had left loads of nails at the parking spot)). Well done car hire company from Vegas.. No phone signal back then did not help .But thanks to the fantastic people who were at the time looking after the Bottle House Clint & Ellie they looked after us for hours feeding us and in the end (long story))) Clint who was I think 80 years old took us back to the motel we were staying in at Stovepipe Wells. The car hire company made a bad job of sending us not a new tire but a replacement car. Took the truck drive about 8 hours from Vegas. Will always remember Clint & Ellie for what they did for us that day in their Airstream caravan. God bless them both. The area has changed a lot but the memories are with us forever. The profile picture is of montilius Beatty namesake of Beatty Nevada. Civil war vet. Did hydraulic gold mining in Madera before coming out. One of the first three white men in the area. Monty brought his farming skills out from Iowa. He married a Paute had three kids whom went to riverside indian school. Monty is my grandmother's great uncle.

The Casino was originally the railway station, at one time 4 different railroads passed through. It only latter became a casino and much latter still a gift shop. The tall building was a bank. I first visited in 1986, at that time you could walk right up to the buildings and even onto the railway platform - nothing was fenced.

We've been to Rhyolite 3 or 4 times over the years when visiting Furnace Creek ranch. The tall building was the bank and the store front across the street from it was the hardware store. If you had slowed down you could of looked in the basement of the hardware store while standing on the metel grate just in front of the store. The building at the top of the road was a train station, not a casino, There was also the old jailhouse that you could look into if you had taken your time, it was right down one of the dirt roads. You get excited about going place, then you just blow right through them without taking your time. Too bad, you miss alot in your videos.

I am really enjoying joining you on your trip. Last time I was on Daylight Pass I froze. My riding buddy and I rode our bikes in the dark and it was under 40 degrees in February going into Beatty. I really like your rig. I have decided to go that route when I retire. You can put it into regular car parking spots.

I thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the trek through Rhyolite, NV. Enroute to Rhyolite, I drove through Beatty. After leaving Rhyolite, I drove through Death Valley and stopped to see Bad Water. After leaving Death Valley, it was time to head back to Las Vegas.

On your last live stream when you were in Beatty I had given advice to go to Rhyolite! You told me on the live stream that you had a video. Watched it a few minutes ago. My mother and her friends used to dig with little gardener shovels in Rhyolite, Goldfield and Tonopah dumps hunting for old bottles and marbles.

My parents were married in Ryolite in May 1956...there was a couple that lived in the old depo..you called a casino..their name was Herschel Heiser and his wife..he was a reverend. They were from Georgia.and married my parents.we use to go visit during the 60s. There was a museum of sorts inside the old depot..

Down the road there used to be a store in Bullfrog. There is also a cemetery between the two towns. This was the Bullfrog mining district named for the green ore the gold was in.

In Rhyolite the big building is the train depot. In 1976 it was a gift shop and museum, not sure when it stopped being occupied. More vandalism since 1976.

The train depot was actually used as a bar at some point in the last 50 years. My grandfather worked at a mine nearby and the workers would ride out to Ryolite after work and get a drink at the bar.

Great mines to explore as long as you are careful and plenty of wild horses. The grave yard is the best with tomb stones made out of wood dating back to the 1700 century.

There's an interesting spot on this road in DV where the rocks in the berm at the side of the road are all worn smooth. It was result of wave action from Lake Manly when it was hundreds of feet deep thousands of years ago.

The plaque said that in its day Rhyolite was the biggest town in Southern Nevada. So now we know what Las Vegas will look like in another 100 years. 8^) Also the town had 50 saloons, which reminded me of a line from Mark Twain's 'Roughing It' He was in a little Gold Rush town in California and he said (paraphrasing of course) the town had 30 saloons, 6 bordellos, 15 casinos, and there was some talk of building a church.

Went thru there in 1999 and there were no fences, you could go walking all around the area and explore to your hearts content. Inside the station someone posted a memorial plaque dedicated to barrel racers of old called "HELL RIDERS", aka "carnie daredevils" who rode the 'barrel of death', with their names. Now, i bet, its sitting in and hidden away in a basement. A shame. well i took a couple pictures of the hell riders plaque, with the names.

Yeah... guess everybody saying what I was thinking... It was originally the train station. It's funny how many people are there and now know about this place. I'm 62 & came out there when I was maybe 10? No fences... no people... nothing. Lol! I think maybe 1970 or so... We went camping in Death Valley with some friends... No fancy camping places or need to pay. Anyway, sometime during the night the park rangers came through warning everyone to get to high ground... Flash flooding expected! Sure enought, it rained cats 'n dogs. No flooding though. We came out in a 1964 Cadillac Sedan de Ville. But I went home (Orange County) in the pop up VW van. Just so much cooler. Lol!

It was the railroad station. The first time I visited Rhyolite was in Feb. 1965. The railroad station was open to visitors at the time, but not as deteriorated as the other ruins in Rhyolite. The bottle house looks about the same condition as it was in "65, and the rest of the ruins have deteriorated considerably since then.

@@kevinj97045 My next door neighbor's oldest son would go out there to scavange Model A's. The guy's father helped design the 2nd stage of the Apollo rocket. So it shouldn't have come as any surprise after a handful of years the most gawd awful noise erupted from their garage one bright Saturday! He fired that baby up... uncorked! And took her for a drive!! A lot of those old mining camps HAD old cars but after the '60's & '70's were over... No more. Probably why fences around everything now. The building on the west side of the road was a bank. I think more than just a few ppl probably rooted around the foundations over the years looking for gold and silver coins... hence more fencing. I can remember being inside... such as that was. Anyway... this was still a fun ride down memory lane!

There is a sign at the turnoff into Rhyolite that says "Day Use Only-No Camping"
