I grew up in Connecticut and in many of the town and cities there are old buildings like that. Most of them were factories from the early part of the 20th century. My friend was a city historian, and showed me some houses that were hundreds of years old. I love all of that old architecture. I grew up in the 60's and 70's and back in those days, those buildings were either still in use or simply not that old. My grandparents and great-grandparents had all sorts of furniture that they were still using as common furniture, that now go for big money as antiques. Pretty cool stuff!

Oh my goodness! This is my part of the world ❤ Thank you so much for visiting. I would have given you some travel detour tips and other off the beaten path must see places. You did a great job highlighting the beautiful scenery along the Mississippi River. We are proud of our communities and small town atmosphere. If you can just imagine the Dairy Days & Independence Day small town celebrations. I watched many firework shows in the Dubuque & Guttenburg parks. My father worked at the John Deere factory along the Mississippi near Dubuque. He had a machine shed full of antique tractors that he would proudly ride in those parades. You drove past my uncle & cousins home as you went through Guttenburg. I now own a cottage with the river in my backyard, nothing compares to thunderstorms on the Mississippi. The river does freeze in the winter, however there is usually open water near the dam areas. I was fortunate enough to travel the country with my dad when I was young, so your videos are so enjoyable & entertaining to me. Before he passed away I asked him what his favorite place to visit was, he told me there is nothing more beautiful than the rolling hills of Iowa ❤

The Mississippi river will freeze over in that area. In the late 70’s, the bridge at Marquette was closed due to some bad issues found during an inspection. The closest bridge north was at Lansing which was about an hour north. In the summer, they had a ferry at Marquette to take you over the river. We had a real cold winter that year and they had to cut the ice with big saws so the ferry could continue to run during the winter

Russ we love you!!! Hello from us here in Minnesota. Prairie Du ( Shane) lol. Come see us on the great north shore of Lake Superior!!!!!! The great river road is a beautiful drive along the Mississippi River. Hyw 61 along the Minnesota side includes the town of Wabasha ( Wab i shaw ) where the movie Grumpy old Men was filmed, and has the most amazing eagle center. And...for the ultimate trip.....visit the headwaters of the Mississippi River in Itasca state park, where you can step over the river as a trickle, and see Paul Bunyan!!!

If you stay on the upper Mississippi river valley, check out Pikes peak State Park in Iowa, Wyalusing State Park in Wisconsin, drive to the top of Grandad Bluff in Lacrosse, WI (must see!!). Great River Bluffs State Park in Minnesota, there are others, that's just a name a few. Winona, Minnesota is a cool little historic town as well. The driftless area in general has a lot of great stops, not just on the Mississippi.

That branch breaking sound was either a human or a sasquatch. Squirrels don't make that much noise, and snap branches that quickly, over and over, like that. That was cool! I doubt it was human. Didn't sound like any other known animal that I would think would keep rapidly breaking branches.

Brick was, and I guess still is, depending on where you live, the gold standard. These towns started with wooden structures but because of frequent fires, brick was the way to go. It truly stood the test of time plus it’s so cool looking. Having lived in California my whole life, brick is foreign. With all the seismic activity here in the west, brick is not desirable.
