Sending this to NORBERTO/ADELE IN MILANO, ITALY. My brother in Law. Italians LOVE USA & ESPECIALLY GRAND CANYON. I remember 1977 sending them Photo's of our trip when I was fresh out of US Army. They never forgot it. Now 45 years later THEY ARE MAKING PLANS FOR 3 YEARS TO COME HERE TO GRAND CANYON. Amazing. Last trip HELICOPTER BROKE DOWN IN LAS VEGAS. They missed GC. next THE PANDEMIC HIT. Hopefully, they get their chance. AGES 74 NOW....God, I hope they make it here. Thank you Russ....James, US Army. 9th Infantry Div.

It's so refreshing to hear some one pronounce Hualapai correctly. ;) I was born and raised on a cattle ranch in Kingman AZ. My school bus stop was on Route 66. And I rode the bus with Hualapai kids from Peach Springs until I was old enough to drive to school. Loving your AZ videos.

So sad, I was there 40 years ago, when the Hualapai actually lived a nd worked right where you're walking. The we're bat cave accros from the Walkway, and they had a line and ran buckets over the canyon to collect the guwana, bat droppings! The great people we so loving and inviting. They had an old school bus and would run tourists from around the area on tours. They served a home lunch of beans and corn bread. I stayed all day, while one of the young men made me a dream catcher. Never thought it would be gone.

The cable house (now covered with plywood) and tower were fully intact and covered with corrugated steel until the mid 70’s. What hadn’t blown off in the wind over the years was eventually pilfered. Last time I was up there was 1986 which was long before the Hualapai developed the skywalk. I have also hiked up from the river to the cave back in the 70’s. I believe the cave was sealed up in the mid 80’s by the park service. From the river you can still see the cables running up both sides of the canyon. When they built the cableway and started mining the cave they came to find out that the supposedly 100k ton supply of guano was only about 1000 tons. The survey team grossly overestimated the quantities in the cave. I believe the cave goes back in the cliff several thousand feet. Without proper breathing apparatus you could only make it in 20 feet before the air went bad. They abandoned the operation several months prior to the cable being severed by an Air Force Pilo hot dogging the canyon. This was the longest span of any tramway at the time at 7500’ with a vertical rise of 2500’. Look up Guano point cableway for a more in-depth description.

🙋‍♀️Hello Russ! So very much enjoyed coming to see the Grand Canyon. I couldn't even imagine how they built that structure to mine, let alone working on it that high up, & here it's still standing. That helicopter looked so small coming through the canyon.I liked seeing the Hopi teepee, their sauna, homes. It was a beautiful day.👍

Great video, Russ! One of my favorites of your's. By the way, the actual guano cave/mine is on the opposite side of the river, on the north wall 600 feet above the river The tramway went from Guano Point on the south rim down to that second tower, then all the way across the canyon to the mine. A truly amazing engineering feat.

9:32 - that is a kiva, where Native Americans prepared food. Unlike a chimnea, which is more closely assoiated with Mexico, the kiva is akin to the hearth in most other cultures that lived indoors rather than out. Know who taught me that? SPONGBOB SQUAREPANTS!

Hi Russ Jim here. Long time follower of RVerTV. My wife and I are on our extended road trip from SW Florida thru the West. We've been seeing several of the places you put on your channel. Really great to see them in person. We traveled RT66 from Seligman to Kingman. Amazing. Then went to Havasu Lake and walked the London Bridge. Stayed east of Parker for a couple nights then took Arizona 95 south to California 62 to Joshua Tree National Park. Many more adventures planned. Hope to be in Quartsite some this winter. We'd love to buy you lunch but that's probably not possible. Please keep sharing your adventures. Have a great trip. 👍😁🙏
