Russ, I noticed as you were easing through all the parked cars along the road where everyone was taking pictures: There was an elk eating between the 17:50 and 18:00!

I don't know if you get up early but the "light show" unfolds early in the morning and at sundown, when slanted light reveals all the features and relief of the Grand Canyon. I spent a Summer week in the South Rim of Grand Canyon Nat'l Park for 5 years between 2013 and 2019 and, in June and July, the show happens between 5h00 and 6h00 AM and around 8h00 PM. Midday is the worst time to observe the canyon but maybe late Fall's slanted light helps as it is less "overhead" than in the Summer. Lipan Point is the best site early and late in the day. I even saw the Canyon with snow when I went there on December 30, 1978. The North Rim is a totally different experience but it closes early. Your video brings back tons of memories, as I may never be able to get back there. Oh, come to think of it, beware of the mountain lions roaming the Park during the night if you camp there !!! Best Regards and stay safe !

Yet another top-notch road trip video by Russ. Keep them coming. It gives you a good idea of how far away the North Rimi is as the dark line on the horizon is the pine forest.

The Grand Canyon is some of God's greatest work. I know I sound like a broken record but its beauty has to be seen in person. Video doesn't do it justice. Its my favorite national park. The only National Park that comes any where close to it is the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

Russ, thank you for such an impressive view from the East Rim. I visited and hiked into the canyon in 1990. I stayed at the Phantom Ranch before hiking out. I was much more fit then that I am now. I remember looking at the night sky and seeing more stars then I have ever seen on the East Coast. I remember seeing the Duck Point before traveling to the North Rim. Thanks for taking me back in time to see the East Rim, again.

I am planning on heading there in the next 2 weeks with my RV. How much longer does this road stay open, or does it ever close ? I have been to the GC before but it was just a day trip. I dont know the specifics on when Winter Weather shuts down which or all parts of the park, and surrounding roads such as hwy 64...anyone got any experience with these questions ? Are there any good spots along hwy 64 to Boondock ? BLM/Nationa Forest land, where I could get my 40 foot 5th wheel into ? Last questions...is when is the absolute vest time of year to visit the GC ? Is it Now before winter sets in or very early next spring while kids are still in school ? Thanks for any and all info....Happy Traveling...
