A great movie about a fellow Kiwi that ran there way back in the 1960's. The Worlds Fastest Indian. I have seen the actual bike used by Herbert James "Burt" Munro which is in a display in his home town, Invercargill, New Zealand.

Russ, Years ago my wife and I flew to Wendover with another couple. While there we took a tour out to the salt flats. Very interesting, we were at the location of the area where they do the races and land speed record attempts. At that time if one were to rent a car there was an additional $35.00 fee for cleaning the car. When we got back to our hotel, you could follow our footsteps back to our room from the salt on our shoes.

I was watching you talk about Salt Flats & just had this butterfly feeling in my gut, realized how OLD our earth is. Salt Flats has problems too?? Hmm. Wispy clouds there. Ft Worth TX had 116 million years old dinosaur tracks was on NEWS a few days ago. We take so much for granted and we are unappreciative. Russ, your videos make me think. These may land in DC's Hall of Record's one day. You've recorded so many beautiful things. ❤️👍 A living history.

Living in northern Utah, I've been out there a hundred times! Another interesting site(s) is Danger Cave and Jukebox Cave! The latter, Military Personnel had dances in it, during WWII! They poured a concrete slab in it, so they would have a floor to dance on! It's blocked from entry now, but I got into it, before they did! Lots of things to see out there!

I've been to the bottle salt flats during speed week well it's actually speeding months usually about 2 months but it's the most awesome awesome thing to see anything imaginable has been on the salt flat trying to see how fast it can go I watched one guy set or a wind speed record with a Honda 50 he went 48 mph and other things it's just awesome you got to be there to believe it it's just incredible and I've seen it under a foot of water before yeah it doesn't happen every year sometimes it floods sometimes it's dry but it's hot and always wash your car before you leave stay out of the casinos I never want a a dime in my whole life

I drove from New Orleans to the Canadian border north of Seattle years ago way before Google Maps with only a large Rand McNally book of maps. Only got lost once in Lubbock Texas. Sherry, I love Lubbock. I was there 5 years ago, as far as I got with fur kid and credit card, it's easy as I noticed it was like a big square. Stayed for 4 night's. Went to one of their grocery stores and it was like a smorgasbord of food, anything and everything you would want to try. 🛣️🤗🦊

Great video and photography at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Your camera drone really gives a very clear picture of the flats and water. Lot more water than the Great Salt Lake. As you said , it's sad about the Great Salt Lake. Heard a rumor that someone was suggesting that a pipe line be built from the Pacific Ocean to replenish the Great Salt Lake. However, I don't think that idea went anywhere. Thanks for taking the videos and the visits to these historical places. It was very educational.

Hey Russ, another nice video. A saw a piece on the flats people went out to do tests and they were packing up in a ft of water and heading home. The fellow said will be back next year. Keep on truck in and i will keep on watching. By the way I got your sticker, and it is on the back of my SUV. Very cool. Later Russ.

I went out for speedweek but it was rained out the first day, rained all the way out from Salt Lake actually, so I went and camped up in the hills because the "Bend" where everybody camps was under water and dozens and dozens of trailers and motorhomes were stuck trying to get out, all those tracks that you saw in the mud was the result, but that night there was a horrendous thunder and rain storm and the next morning the flats were flooded and SCTA cancelled the event, so I went home, a lot of people were still stuck as I left.

Hi Russ! 🙋♀️ It does look like snow. Flat, flat snow. I remember the darts with parachutes on TV. Bonneville Salt Flats always makes me chuckle because when I was a kid I bought 2 albums from the junk bin. They were just recordings of engine noise. LOL! 🥴 Stay safe out there guy!

I read a news clip that said the Great Salt Lake was going to receive sea water pumped into it. Great video thanks for fulfilling my dreams for me.
@ckstaff2 жыл бұрын
How ironic would that be? In the 80's they put pumps in to pump the water out into the salt flats on the west side of the lake because it was so full it was threatening reaching Salt Lake International airport. The rebuilt Salt Air pavilion was flooded out and unused for years. Now it looks like a strange looking structure out in the middle of a dust bowl. Glad I had no money invested in that project.
@supersami77482 жыл бұрын

I have been there twice for the time trials. All that water dries up by August and you go about a mile out to the start line. Pits are another mile and a half out. When dry the salt is hard and it is graded to be flat for the time trials. I believe there is another time trials later in the year that I haven't been down to. Lots of people camp on the mud flats along the access road during the trials. I camped at the KOA in Wendover so I had air conditioning in my trailer.
@walterbright13962 жыл бұрын
Nice video. I work with a motorcycle racer and official at this years event and knew it was cancelled due to rain and flooding. Would love to try next year to be there for speed week myself. While there is no official “Motorhome” category, it might be interesting to see what the top speed of your rig is. Who knows, maybe you could set an unofficial speed record for RVs or just have a little fun.

Gee! Not one glimpse of the "Tree of Utah", the 85' sculpture 16 miles east of the rest area. I must have 30 pics of that thing! The salt flats and the Great Salt Lake are all that remains of the prehistoric Lake Bonneville. To give an idea how big that lake was, there good shots of the prehistoric shorelines at 8:20. Enjoying the drive around Utah. Stay safe.

I think this was about best video of this area I seen. I didn't realize I-80 run through there. I don't like all that salt being on I-80. I think I'd rent car at airport for day and see it that way. If person was going on, then need your traveling rig. And car wash or rain wet roads splashing under it.

About the Sturgis Rally, Russ. Is Deadwood part of the celebration? Do many Rally attendees stay in Deadwood and commute or is it a completely different vibe? Do many people just stay in Deadwood and never go over to Sturgis?
