We live full-time in our RV. We always take our shoes off when we come into our RV, helps keep the dirt down. I love how easy and fast I can clean the RV compared to our house we just sold. We like taking our home with us when we go on a trip. I was an auditor for 36 years, before I retired, and traveled all the time. I hate hotels, love taking my home with me.

We sold our house in FL in June & bought a new Entegra Esteem, 32’ Class C. Our college daughter often travels with us, so she & I switch off driving our Highlander instead of towing a vehicle. We stopped for 3-4 days working our way to our summer camp in VT. The fall foliage up there was awesome. We’re now in VA, going back to FL for the winter until our girl graduates. Then we’re off to Thunder Canyon and the Ozarks…God willing and the creek don’t rise! You are Loved 😇

I agree about the Jerks, who ruin it for everyone else. I also agree about the sewer camp. I have yet to be in a park that has the camp with the flip opening. All of them have had the screw on cap. I know that I have a separate set of gloves for the sewer and also a bottle of hand sanitizer in my cargo bay. We are not full time, but love camping/glamping. I love what you guys are doing with Thunder Canyon. Hi from Canyonville Oregon. Have fun and a blessed Sunday.

Pretty much agree with all of your points! Our biggest pet peeve is when parks misrepresent themselves, either by lying about current conditions(smoke has been a HUGE one this year), or, making up false occupancy to sell the high priced spots.
@paulmadkow91433 жыл бұрын
Would be really nice if there was a national RV park/campground reservation system, like Expedia, travelocity, etc. You would search an area, enter a date range, and a list of parks would pop up with prices and availability. I know some of the state campgrounds have this. I'm talking about privately owned RV parks. You still have to call each one separately.

Jin (my wife) n I have picked up lots of “thorns n roses” from your brutally honest vids about RVing. Many Thanks! We have dialed backed the idea to purchase an RV. As an investor, I am considering buying and/or developing an RV site with acreage that I’ve acquired. Again, lots of great points to consider. One item that’s certain…owning an RV site and having owned rental houses is basically no different. There are those that don’t care if they trash the place vs those that do show some respect. Shalom!

Spring Sewer Caps..It's a great idea; however, I recommend some kind of barrier around the waste cap area, even if just trees, that someone would hit BEFORE the cap. We had the basic twist on and/or regular caps. But even with the basic ones, lawn mowers would rip them up, guests would run over them, and they can and do get stolen, removed, or simply lost. That's one reason, if on a budget, basic caps are fine. But! If you can upgrade your sites with this nifty little option to keep it tidy and the area welcoming, I completely agree. Just have extra inventory on hand for those moments.

I agree about most camp grounds being way to close together, then you're expected to wear clothes when you go out side. Plus a lot slot does not have any set times at the pool to skinnydip. It defeats the purpose of going campings. Worse some people look in you RV windows and then complain about what they see. 🙈

Thank you for such a great video! Loads of information that we didn't think of - thank you for talking sewer! We just bought our first RV and, while we won't be full-timers, we want quality campsites at an affordable price and not adding stress to an 'adventure' by feeling that we have to know it all. My biggest issue with the VLOGGERS is that everything is all 'great', 'fantastic' and 'gee, this rig is so pretty now that we updated the paint' and 'our X number of kids are so happy sharing space". OMG! No one shares the crappy part of RVing...literally. While we are updating the RV due to water damage, etc., the goal is not to go broke gutting this thing or spending endless hours trying to find sites to visit. This surge makes me not want to start in the first place. Good luck with Thunder Canyon - it looks wonderful.

All valid points ,but the thing that is starting to take the shine off is the fact that it is very difficult to fly by the seat of your pants nowadays.......everything requires reservations if you can get em.And i love boondocking but the available spots are continually disappearing.And thats mostly due the jerks you speak of ruining it for everyone.Been fulltiming for three years now but the best days look to be behind us .I hate having to have a plan all the time...........My two cents....

I live in a sticks and bricks. We go to state parks with our RV for weekends or vacations. I Have to reserve a spot 9 months out to get anything. There are more people at the parks than our permanent rural home. All jammed in together to enjoy "nature's peace and beauty". So we have to expect a party when we go camping! Shoes off indoors. are a given in both our homes. Makes a huge difference.

Cleaning-keep a bristly mat at the base of the outside steps, and WIPE YOUR FEET before you go up the steps. Sometimes us older folks have trouble getting shoes off and on. Keeping a bench or chair right there would help, for sure. Once inside, have another mat (woven), and wipe again. Shaking the mat out a couple times a day helps, too. Not having carpet inside makes sweeping easier and less necessary. I sweep only every 2-3 days as a rule. I prefer to mop once a week, my husband thinks I'm being excessive. If I sweep consistently, mopping isn't as much of a priority. PS- we also have 2 big dogs, and most of the need to sweep is because of them! 😉

I have found that most private campgrounds are too cramped. We like state camp grounds. As a rule they are spaced far apart & are wooded with a lot of shade & are safe. The down side is that few are full hook-up. I never see that as an issue as they always have a dump station. Also, many dont have water & electric on site but water is shared with others. Dumpsters can also be an issue.

Not RV-ing full time, but I've been on the road for a few months at a time during summer in Norway. The culture here is different, I have never met anyone camping year round, due to climate I believe. My small caravan is a "Scandinavian edition" which means extra insulation. Camping sites are as close you can get to what Marx described as a classless society where people care for their neighbours. The staff is usually very friendly, due to the Corona pandemic prices have gone up. For stays lasting a week you can try negotiating a special price, you will usually succeed especially if you have been there before. I prefer campsites with 80% long term renters (people who have a caravan there year round, even if it is being used only for 5-6 months. People there are more understanding, because if not, it will backfire on themselves. Unfortunately too many things are made in China, but we can only thank ourselves for that when so many only care about price! I have met a few Chinese and explained that we care about both quality and price because over time, high quality also means most economical solution. Not too forget that good service also costs. I travel around in an Adria Action 361PD, very compact caravan, but it has everything, like a luxury hotel room on wheels and well built.
@martyh47773 жыл бұрын
We just did a 3 months Summer RV tour up north to northern WI and MN. While we see some price increases, our average camp site cost was lower than previous years. So, while there are price increases for sure, one can continue to buy decent to good components to buy at a reasonable price, if you buy smart.

I hate that most private parks focus on Disney style entertainment for the kids. Why do they have to be entertained 24/7? Isn't camping supposed to be about family time and getting out into the great outdoors? And why am I forced to pay for all these amenities when I don't have kids?

My husband retired in July and we sold everything and moved into our travel trailer, it’s great so far, I did a bunch of research and all the videos I’ve seen have helped us realize a bunch of things before we even got started, so we were prepared for most things, we are in a 2021 flagstaff 26fkbs 30 feet including the tongue, so a 26 foot box, our biggest challenge is our pups, we have a 1 year old mini schnauzer that has not been socialized and he barks at ‘“everything “” plus we need doggie daycare more but we hat to leave them. We have 5 grown children, 9 grandchildren , and in May will have our first great grandchild……we are excited to be able to stay warm all year but still be able to take our home back to Michigan in the summer months to see our growing family !!

Goes with the territory of being in nature.

My parter agree with you about cleaning. We are full timers and started to find very difficult to find Lots for our rig. After several frustrating episodes, we decided to stay put in our permanent site, and go camping with a tent instead. Easier to travel and find sites, and we can pull a bigger boat than the 10 ft inflatable we have. Talking about park HOAs, I just got in a big Issue with the HOA president’s husband, trespassing too look at our Lot. All things aside, my 8 years old kid don’t want to live in a house, he wants to live in the RV

@5:42 "Camping w a little bit of privacy and be in nature" - 25+ years ago, this was doable bc most people 'camped' with tents OR small campers on pick-up truck beds OR comparably small camp trailers. This allowed for the 'space' everyone craves in the campgrounds AND was relatively affordable. Today's rigs (w/their cars/boats in tow) are two clicks below semi-trucks and making 'private and natural space' for those behemoths requires 3 x the land (which is expensive and getting more so, ESP beautiful, natural areas) electric/water/sewer/amenities built into that land which is labor intensive and VERY costly, not only to create the space but to also INSURE these days, as well, because people be asshats suing over any and every little thing. Face it, if you truly want privacy AND nature, the way to really get it is old school tenting in the wilderness of a state or national park.

We started our full time life at the end of March. So far the only snag has been when our slide quit working and we had to put our rig in the shop and it took 9 weeks to get it back. We were stuck in Washington state and had to stay with friends/family.

I busted out laughing when you talked about the poop hose and Mercedes mentioned eating a sandwich while messing with that hose! The image brought to mind was that of cousin Eddie!! Oh that was so funny!!

Dumb rules are the worst! But what you said is so true… they are created because someone did a dumb thing. 🙆♀️

Before I even finish watching this video, I have to say the number one thing I hate about RVing is with the overwhelming high demand for monthly RV spots, it is becoming very challenging trying to find places to stay.

We have been talking about full timing for 46 years ( before it was a thing). Been camping that long raising kids, working. Finally sold house and living the dream! Such a light load! Don’t miss any of it! I get it your dislikes but of course they aren’t a game changer! Hope to look you up at Thunder.

Part timers 1) Having to plan so far in advance. Years ago we could think on Tuesday or Wednesday, let’s camp this weekend and would be able to get a site at the local state park. 2) Sites not planned well where your facing a sewer connection. (I know that occurs due to the evolution of former tent sites sometimes.) And equally as bad, people that have old dirty hoses in the heat or don’t flush there pipes. 3) Small hot water tanks and lower water pressure. 4) Inconsiderate neighbors

I don't have an RV; I may never get there. I grew up tent camping with my folks, though, and loved it. But, I already know what I would hate most: I'm a free spirit and like to be spontaneous, and this new thing where you have to have reservations everywhere, and keep to a schedule...I'd hate that! We never used to have to do that. We just went, and never even had to wait in any lines for campsites. I'm retired, so yes, for me, it would be like a full-time vacation, and if you have to keep to a schedule, then it doesn't feel much like a vacay! Boy, howdy, I hear you loud and clear on the planned obsolescence crap! It's been going on for decades: I remember by dad griping about it back in the 50s and 60s! It's only gotten worse, faster! Soooo maddening! As far as the expenses in the RV parks...I can see both sides. On the one hand, it's far less expensive than staying in a hotel. On the other hand, I imagine their liability insurance is sky high, plus maintenance to keep the place looking nice and functioning well. So I can kind of understand....up to a point. Then there are the high-end resorts that have tons of amenities from saunas to mini golf to 6 swimming pools, restaurants, etc....it wouldn't surprise me to pay a lot at those places...but I wouldn't because I couldn't afford to go there.... LOL at dirt and bugs...it's camping. In fact, for years and years I said I would never like an RV: give me my tent, because I have a sink to scrub and floors to sweep at home. I'm on vacation here, and an RV would feel like bringing my housework with me. The only thing that's shifted my position a bit is the fact of aging, and it not being so easy to get up and down off the floor in a sleeping bag, or get dressed bend over only half standing up inside a tent. (And mice wouldn't like it in my RV (if I ever get one): I have 9 cats! ) :-O :-D Not actually being in the RV lifestyle, but having done a ton of tent camping, if I may be so bold as to make a few suggestions: 1) reflective numbers on the campsite markers 2) brochures or other hand-outs of things to do in the general area surrounding (including things like listing of nearby grocery stores, gas stations, and hospitals (which hopefully no one would need) 3) A few tent spaces... ;-)

I gotta say I hate the condo-camping. I don’t want to be to close to anyone. The other thing I can’t stand is when campground owners say no RVs older then 10 years old. This is so unfair and half the time the campgrounds are older than 10 years themselves. Hi Saga! Cheers!!!
