I think in 5 years I want to invest in a small A liner. They look really convenient and it’s always been my dream to drive around the country and camp

We recently purchased a 2018 Aliner Scout. It's our first camper, and of course I have to modify everything we get. I work in maintenance, and I hate ignorant engineering. The battery box just floats around, so I had bolt it down and make sure it could drain properly. The counter tops are 1/2" thick material with 1" wide glued plastic trim that is unsupported on the bottom. I had to cut 1/2" strips and support the full trim width. This is critical on the dinette top that has to be handled for set up and break down every time. Adding these strips, you find out quickly that the counter tops are not mounted square on the cabinets. The dinette bed cushion is just supported by widely spaced boards. You need to add a couple of boards for solid support. The dinette table wobbles and not way to tighten it up. This year, the AC/heat unit is under the back bed/couch in the storage area. Sounds like a semi idling while you are sleeping. The "duct" work is dryer duct that moisture condensates on and drips into the storage area. I replaced with insulated duct that Aliner would not cover. Their idea for an air filter is a piece of foam sheet STAPLED to the plywood enclosure. I've got to build a frame now to use a replaceable filter. The thermostat box and wiring needs to be mounted higher to free up some storage space. The two AC ducts come out in front of the back bed. The return air vent is also in front of the back bed. When you pull the bed out, an AC cave is formed where no air escapes to cool the camper. The AC unit control senses camper temp in the return air, so the camper never cools. I finally covered the return air vent and drilled a bunch of 1" holes in the fire extinguisher mount, by the entrance door. You still need to put a fan on the floor, blowing AC air up, to try to displace the warm air higher up. The UHMW plastic wear strips, on the roof sides, have adhesion issues. They want to fold up every time you close the camper. The two bubble windows are not bedded in sealant. They will leak when the tiny sealant bead, around the window edge, moves a little. This model has the aluminum step plate on both ends. I do not like shiny. It blinds you when you walk up to it when the sun is out. It will be an issue for drivers behind you, at sunrise or sunset, depending on the direction of travel. Columbia Northwest should consider brushed aluminum or painting the top section a flat silver, gray. or black out of respect for drivers.

Air Force Guy .... would you ever consider doing a comparison between Aliner vs Rockwood? Thx

I will try and give it a shot. Difference is mostly in the materials.

Do these Aliners Leak in rain or heavyrain.
@TheAirForceGuy11 ай бұрын
They shouldn’t leak in heavy rain. Check out what some people do to keep the pressure on the sides so there is less chance of issues in windy situations. Thanks for watching

I hate to be the one to break bad news to you, but, if a bear really wants into your camper- it's not going to matter if you have the "hard" or "soft" dormers! The bear's claws will tear through the doors, walls, windows and anything else! They have been known to rip a car door open to get inside!

Yes, and my S+W loaded with .357 will stop bears.

Hay "Air Force Guy" This camper may be a lot of things - spacious is not one of them.
@TheAirForceGuy8 жыл бұрын
You are correct. These campers, like any other small campers are for the folks that have a smaller vehicle and/or want to park it inside of there standard garage.
