Having not seen this in 20 years (back when I was only 15) and re-watching now in 2020 is very mind boggling. I wish content like this could exist today on reality television. It's one of the many reasons RW New Orleans is such a classic.

Melissa was wrong for saying David is a poor excuse for a black man. So because David is not doing exactly what you think he should be doing then he must be a poor excuse... that’s the problem. Expectations, and taking it personal. That man is free to do what he wants.

True, but I also think Melissa was using some of her personal stuff and putting it on David.

Episode 1. Melissa to David :don't talk to me for 5 months Now: oh I'm not excited about Africa. We have Busch Gardens in Tampa While in Africa : he's a poor excuse for a black man because he won't talk to me while we are in Africa and we should be experiencing this together. Right rich white boy who can't relate to me? Girl please.

Matt was a good guy. Most people would be too cowardly to step outside of the clique/group as a whole, and go after that one who was being ostracized to try and bring them back into the fold. Those in cliques love to make a chosen target in particular feel alone. It boosts their egos and feeling of being special and one of the "chosen ones". But Matt saw through the bs, and reached out to David rather than gossiping and ganging up on him, like the rest in the house did. He has a really good heart. People like him are rare.

I respectfully disagree. I don't see how you or anyone can blame it on a "clique" when David is the one who has excluded himself. He purposely created the divide. He just said that!! One day he's too cool for the roommates David who just wants to be free to do his thing. Then thr next day he's acting like the victim and feeling some kind of way about being odd man out. He can't keep playing both sides. It makes him seem like a gamer and that just sucks.

We must be left brain right brain since we see the complete opposite here. This is just my opinion not even 2 cents worth lol. I have really tried to like Matt and I just can't. For all his talking and preaching I find him incredibly disingenuous. I can't put my finger on it but he just feels off. It was a kind gesture to hang with David but I don't see it being the stretch he made it out to be since he's not really that deep into the "clique"

It's BIZARRE to me that Melissa, who is part Black, can't understand why David, a Black man, would want to chill with the South Africans and not hang with his white roommates--in South Africa. She's silly for that. I don't think she's identifies with Black culture at all.

I think David is very independent and self-confident. He does not like to suck up or try to mingle with the others. He might not fit in with other six roommates, but it does not mean that he does not care. His way of dealing issues is just different from the other six.

But are you missing the fact that he's an ASSHOLE?!? He expects everyone to treat him with respect when he doesn't give them the same. It's all about David and he doesn't apologize or take accountability for any of his actions.

Egh, I don't know. He's acted pretty shitty at times. Like the time he didn't know how to or want to change the tire so he called to get it towed and then have someone change it. The roommates just asked when the tow truck was coming as they wanted to try to fix it themselves and not pay the extra money. And he just flipped out and said I don't know when they asked when they were coming and what company. He just kept saying in a bratty condescending tone, "I don't know, I don't know" and then said repeatedly, "whatever". Or the time he was a hypocrite and missed work and obsconded when they needed him. But then he had to go to a meeting and needed the car and they didn't show up to work until later so he couldn't use it. Later he ended up sitting them down for a house meeting and talked to them like he was their dad or an arrogant boss nd scolding them etc. It was bizarre. It's all about David and he could care less about other people. Matt really tried to be there for him and really what it seemed like was the only one to try to emphasize with him and try to include him and do things with him. And then David turns around and sells him out and then doesn't even apologize for it and throws a hissy fit. He's just a shitty human being and chooses to alienate himself and then expects everyone to treat him better than he treats them. However, I thought he redeemed himself in the homecoming series on Paramount. He was still eccentric and at times solitary but he was very caring and seem to grow and have become a better person.

16:34 David and Kelley really could have been better friends than they were. He could have been cooler with everybody, and it’s really disappointing that he chose to alienate them. We’ll see what he says about that on the upcoming Homecoming. Edited to add: They were apparently closer than viewers got to see, according to Kelley on a recent IG live. Sucks that we didn’t see more of that.

C. Vanderbilt I think there’s two things that killed this show 1) reality TV itself and 2 ) social media. When there’s a generation of people who’ve grownup on reality TV and social media know and understand how to create the character they want to be seen as. Social media wouldn’t allow for any deep nuanced discussions about issues anymore because everyone would hashtag and cancel people without any context to the conversation. The earliest seasons the cast actually wanted the experience over fame. Now it’s the exact opposite.
@ceeset5472
@ceeset5472 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. The today's real world is all about hooking up, drunking fights, and partying. The earlier seasons was different.It was educational and raw. The viewer could learn something from each episode. The roommates wanted to know e/os story and backgrounds on a deeper level than just a physical level.

Dude, Real World casts said whatever was on their mind back then 😆 I think most of the issues is David. He admits sabotaging himself in various ways. Melissa is wrong for keep talking shit about David cuz she’s just as flawed as him but in a different way.... I’m gonna say it, the “white” people in this house are mostly open minded and try their best to listen and extend a hand... meanwhile the 2 only black cast are out here creating issues for themselves when really, everyone in the house are so open hearted... but then again, we gotta look at the impact of what systemic racism can do... it can causes people to destroy themselves... that’s a shame 😖😞
